  • How can Mozilla popups (& pop-unders) be stopped?

    In writing this I discovered / learned about pop-unders!!! Here is what I started with.
    My popup box is checked.
    I reviewed Mozilla popup info page.
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/pop-up+blocker
    Is it a Mozilla popup or another? So I ran virus and malware scans.
    I thought is was a Mozilla popup as it says "Screensavers - Mozilla Firefox" on the top bar, but I forgot to check the Firefox logo
    The link to click for the screensaver is -- http://cdn.optmd.com/V2/41975/140046/index.html?g=AQAAu88=&r=www.convertunits.com/from/MB/to/GB.
    However, I happened to miss part of the link and ended up at this page regarding "pop-unders"
    http://www.optmd.com/
    Seems there is an "opt-out"

    See these articles for some suggestions:
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page - Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' symbols
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
    It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).
    See:

  • Safari not blocking 'pop unders'

    I have the pop-up blocker on in Safari, but when I go to shut down Safari I get a message that there are (at least) two windows open and do I really want to quit. More often than not, the extra windows that are open are a NetFlix pop under, or one for screensavers. What gives-shouldn't the pop up blocker take care of this?

  • Isn't it time Firefox blocked Pop Unders as they hi-jack the actual browser

    Pop Unders, NOT Pop Ups, hi-jack the Firefox browser when they load up. When I close the window with the pop Under, the whole Firefox browser closes. I would have thought that Firefox would be annoyed at this as the Pop Under advert has taken over control of the browser.

    What is the web address? What is on the pop?
    It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
    Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
    and what it does. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
    '''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder
    '''Linux:'''
    * [http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/see_all_your_installed_applications_ubuntu_unity Ubuntu Unity]''' {web link}
    * Xfce: Applications Menu category sections
    * options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment
    Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
    know what it is, use a web search.

    thanks

    Pop-Ups windows are effectively being blocked in Safari, but some web-sites have updated their sites to open a window when you click on content on their site.  This is not a Safari issues it is a web-site issue.  I am not sure on how to stop these without stopping other features on the browser. You can get more information about this by clicking here.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-up_ad

  • How do you block pop ups that show on the side of the screens?

    I recently purchased a new computer with the HD screen. Now I have different advertisements show on the side of the viewing screen and some actually cover part of the viewing screen. I do have the pop up blocker on for Mozilla Firefox. I did not have the problem with this issue on my old computer. How do I get rid of the advertisements from showing on the side of the screen, or showing up at all?

    hello adamlybrand, you have various malicious addons present. please try these steps:
    # [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] (this wil keep your bookmarks and passwords)
    # afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
    # finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

  • How do I block pop ups on my MacBook Pro - Chrome Browser

    Last week I foolishly watched a stupid video on FB.
    Ever since I have been getting pop up on my Mac Book Pro.
    I use a chrome browser and have deleted all my history and cookies a few times and they still pop up.
    It was just one, some sort of pop up telling me I need an app to clean sweep my mac. It didn't look legit so I would always close it out. Now a different type is popping up.
    Help.

    Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.
    The Easy, safe, effective method:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
    If you are comfortable doing manual file removals use the somewhat more difficult method:

  • How to block pop-ups in Safari 8

    How do I block pop-ups in Safari 8.
    Since I purchased a new Mac with system 10,2, Safari is driving me nuts with constant pop-ups
    The is no «block pop-up windows» in this version.

    Safari 8's control for this is in the Security tab of its preferences, and is on by default.
    If needed, click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Pop-Ups and Pop-Unders

    Why am I still getting pop-ups when I've checked "Block Pop-Up Windows". I'm tired of time wasting ads!
    While I'm at it, is there any way I can block pop-under ads? I leave sites and see 1, 2, 3, 4 ads all piled up under where my Safari window was.
    Message was edited by: Louise Cote

    I add some "block sites" filters in my router; cruise the web with java and javascript off most of the time, and same for plug-ins.
    Salon was giving me some pop-unders until I added a rule and marked it as "unsafe."
    I think Safari has played loose with what it blocks or allows, or how adservers get around that. And adservers and sites relying on SQL can be infected "SQL-Injection" is still popular.
    Delete your history cache and cookies when you exit or login... don't leave any "crumbs" of who or where you travel.
    No java/javascript disables most. And doesn't affect most of what I need to do.
    Maybe use 3 browsers depending on what you do. Most browser now but not Safari, allow launching in Private Browsing Mode.

  • How do I block unsolicited e-mail(s) from unsolicited senders? Why isn't there an auto option that simply pops up and asks if you wish to block this sender from future e-mails? I am so tired of my e-mail address being sucked out of a friends address book,

    How do I block unsolicited e-mails from the sites that have stolen my e-mail address from a friends address book, and send me non-stop horrid e-mails. Why is there no pop-up to ask if "want sender blocked", to easily solve this problem? Seems like it would be such an easy solution to what must be a universal problem with these e-mail pirates.

    It is frontiernet.com that would need to block the emails.
    You can setup a Mail "Rule" to send email you do not want into the trash, or a spam folder, etc...
    In fact, there is a Mail -> Message ->  Mark -> as Junk Mail, which will train Mail to reconize junk mail and start to automatically move it to a junk mail folder.
    You can put this option on the Mail toolbar via Mail -> View -> Customize Toolbar, and drag the "Junk" icon to your Mail Toolbar.
    But of course Junk takes training.  You can create a Rule to trash the emails you do not want right away via Mail -> Message -> Add Rule, or Mail -> Preferneces -> Rules

  • How do I block this msg from always popping up "iTunes requires Safari 4.0.3 or later to be installed to use the iTunes Store within iTunes. Use Software Update to download and install the latest version of Safari" bc I can't download the latest software?

    How do I block this msg from always popping up "iTunes requires Safari 4.0.3 or later to be installed to use the iTunes Store within iTunes. Use Software Update to download and install the latest version of Safari". I cannot download this software bc my lap top is to old. The msg literally pops up everytime I make any moves on itunes and is VERY annoying.

    I have a 2006 MacBook with an Mac OS X version 10.5.
    In that case, try downloading a Safari 5.0.5 for leopard from the following location:

    how do i turn pop up blocker on or off

    What OS are you using?  OS 8.6, 9.2, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8?
    What browser Safari, Firefox, TenFourFox, Chrome?
    What version of the browser?  Click on "Safari" in the upper lefthand corner of the browser's window, pull down to "About Safari", a small window will open telling you what version of Safari you're using.  Same goes for Firefox, Chrome, etc.
    Generally, if when you click on "Safari" or "Firefox" in the upper lefthand corner, if you don't see "Block Pop-up Windows" listed, try clicking "Preferences", and check through the settings there for it.
    Good luck.
