How do i boot other people off our network?

ok so i just found out that my nextdoor neighbor, who's a kid who i know, is using our wireless internet from our extream airport, and i want to kick him off because im pretty sure its making mine go slower in my room? or would it make mine go slower he lives nextdoor and doesn't have internet so uses our wireless but it makes mine very slow on games i think. so if indeed having him on the connection his making my computers internet run slower, then how do i kick there computer off?

All you need to do is enable WPA wireless encryption and use a non-dictionary password.

both are a waste of time. Fornication with a leaky condom.
    Pointless and not
    worth the effort. Or worse!
the obfuscation JavaScript will get the site to not be
    listed in any search
engines because they can't "see" the page or any links on it.
    You would be
"protecting" the images but no one would find them.
And all of those obfuscation JS things can be reverse
    engineered. In most
cases- it's not worth it to prove it can be broken other than
    to prove it
can be done. The images are nothing special in almost any
    site using one of
    those $29.95 applications.
Have you done the basics? Turned off directory browsing or
    put a default
index page in every folder? A few years ago i ran across a
    site with one of
those block right click scripts on it. Dumb curiosity- opened
    a picture, and
looked around the directory. All open directories. A block
    right click
script and every folder on the site was open.

Nuff said. The blocking script made me curious enough to poke
    around the
    directories.

You can also filter out the questions that have already been answered. Below the Discussions Categories for each forum there is a Filter: menu. Change this from All Discussions to Open Questions.
Personally I like to mostly stick to questions that have not had any replies yet.
    Best of luck.

So they can chat with me when i'm online and available....

Go to aol.com and create an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) screename. Then logon to iChat with your new sceename. If you have to enter your new screename and password, do it thru iChat Preferences and the Accounts tab.

  • Who are these other people on my network?

    Hello all,
I wonder if you can help. I'm a home office user.
I've had my iMac for around six months, but only recently bothered clicking on "Network" in my HD. I found a dozen other users sharing the same network. The number of users varies during the day - it can be up to twenty or so, or as few as ten.
If I double click on the other users, I get an AFP connection status prompt asking if I want to connect as a Guest or a Registered User. I don't want to go any further, obviously, as I don't want to connect my machine to a stranger's.
I can't delete other users from my network. I looked one or two of them up in the telephone directory, and they live nearby. Not in the same street, though in the same neighbourhood.
I understand that ISPs use local loops for high-speed users. However, I didn't expect to see them on my Mac network - or be prompted to connect with them (and, presumably, have them be prompted to connect to my iMac).
I expect this is an internet service provider problem, and I will contact my ISP helpline once I have heard from you guys whether or not this is a common occurence. I'm in France, and according to yesterday's newspaper a local MP has described calling my ISP's helpline as "a Kafkaesque experience"; a sentiment I fully understand - which is why I'm putting it off until I have as much information as possible.
    Thanks in advance.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

In the US, broadband companies learned early on that they needed to filter out traffic between nodes. When broadband users here click Network, they will not see their neighbors' computers.
If you are connected wirelessly, however, you may be seeing other people on your network if you haven't locked it down.
If you're not using a wireless connection, and you're worried about security I would suggest activating the OS X firewall, creating a fairly complex password on your computer, and turning off file sharing. This is about as safe as you can reasonably get without 3rd party software/hardware.
The fact that you are seeing other computers just means that the Mac is aware of them, not that they're doing anything malicious. You can't "delete" them or kick them off because you're all on the same network.
I'm surprised your ISP hasn't filtered out this kind of traffice from node to node.

  • I have a PowerMac G5 using an Edimax EW-7811Un that is unable to communicate over Bonjour with other systems on our network

I have a PowerMac G5 using an Edimax EW-7811Un that is unable to communicate over Bonjour with other systems on our network.  On occassion, I can see it appear on iChat on our Network but it doesn't receive any incoming traffic and will drop off soon after.
The PowerMac G5 does not see any other system over Bonjour.
Any help or solutions for getting my PowerMac G5 to be visible on our network would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Phil

I do not understand why you are using Bonjour.  You should be able to configure the g5 to use your router for network setup.
Do you have all of your devices using the same router?  You should.
I'm assuming this is a small configuration with one router.

  • How do I stop other devices on my network from receiving me iMessages? I send an iMessage to someone and everyone on my network sees my conversation.

How do I stop other devices on my network from recieving my IMessage?
I send a friend an iMessage and other people on my network get to see the conversatiom.

Are you sending a group MMS? If so that is why. Also if others are using the same apple id as you then they will see all your imessage texts. You need to change your apple id on you device.

  • Finding other people on uni network

    Hi
I'm pretty new to mac but have my new leopard mac. Im at my uni and can see that there are a lot other people using mac books. With my windows machine i could see the other people in my network and share files with them, but how do I do it with the Macbook/Leopard? I have heard something about Bonjour.
    Thanks in advance..
    /Robin

At my uni (last time I checked was a few months ago, before Leopard), computers sharing iTunes music with Bonjour would just show up automatically in the "shared" list over the network, so I assume that with the new Finder all Bonjour computers would show up in Finder's shared list. (My home Macs share using Bonjour, and they both just show up in the Finder sidebar). Of course you would need permission to access their shared folders (i.e. their username and password). I believe you also need to turn on "File Sharing" in the Sharing pane of System Preferences.

I have connected a new (set up for mac) seagate external HD and although file sharing is turned on the HD doesn't show up on any of the other computers on our network??????  Please help!!!!!

If the HD is setup for Mac and plugged into the AE.. with file sharing on, it should work.
    Try manually mounting the disk.
In finder use go, connect to server, and type in AFP://AEName or AFP://AEIPaddress.. where you replace what I wrote with the actual name or actual IP.
Later versions of Mac OS.. like ML for some strange reason have their preferences set by default to not show network drives.. change finder preference to see everything.

  • How do I Fix Other People Sending Me iMessages when I no Longer Have an iPhon

    Hi,
So, I recently decided to go away from the Apple iPhone, which I enjoyed, just too costly. Though, when I left, to go to android, I kept the same sim, and transferd it over to my new phone, with no issues.
The issue is on the other end, other people's cell phones (iPhones with iMessage) think I still have a iPhone, automaticly sending an iMessage. Most people don't know how to send it, like a regular message, so I'm wondering how I can disconnect iMessage from my android phone. Or would I have to contact my carrier to repair this issue, as I believe it still recognizes my new android as an iPhone.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello WesternElectricBen,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
    iOS: Deactivating iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5185
To deregister your phone number, tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
If you can't deactivate iMessage after you perform the steps above or you can't access the iPhone, please contact Apple Support.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • How Can I add other people to the group calling wh...

Hi,  Could you tell me how can I do this? My laptop is broken and it's in the repair center now so I have to make a call by phone or tablet. However, everytime I have to add another person to the group calling, I have to ask other people to add him/her and it's annoying. Is it available to add people from my side? Thank you in advance.

You can add people to the chat via the little plus button left of the chat bar. If they're already in the chat and you want to add them to the call, only the host of the call can add them. I believe they have to be contacts with the host of the call or they both have to have their settings set so that they can receive calls from non-contacts as well.

  • Please help! Why are other people on my Network?

So, today I noticed that there were two other users in my Network "folder". I can't get rid of them or even open them, because I'm not authorized. Which is more than a little disconcerting. So what does this mean? Am I getting worked up over nothing? Is somebody using my internet? If so, how can I get rid of them? I feel really uncomfratable with having files on my computer (that only I use) that I don't have access to. Any info would be more than helpfull to this computer illiterate.

    Hi Jerkzilla,
    Welcome to the forum.
First, ensure that you have File Sharing switched off. You can do this by firing up System Preferences, clicking on the Sharing icon and (within the Service tab) ensuring that Personal File Sharing is not ticked.
If other users on the same network as you have Sharing enabled, you will still be able to see them but they will not be able to see you.
On a side note, when you look in your Network folder you will always see 2 other volumes - Library and and Servers. When you click on Servers it takes you to your starup volume. Are these the 2 that you are seeing?

  • How do I see my website within our network with it's proper name

We can see the website foo.com outside of our network. But to see it within our network we have to go to http://192.168.0.4.
How do we get it to send requests for foo.com to 192 etc within the network?

Avoid the /etc/hosts file -- it's just a quick fix that you can use in a pinch. It's only used for client settings. You could add the 192.168.0.4 foo.com line to one of your workstations and they'd be able to see it. It's a workaround for not having DNS service.
You can use the DNS server on the server machine or, if you have another DNS server on your LAN, you can add the record to that. If you want to use the DNS server included with OS X Server, then yes, you'll have to start the DNS server. If you're totally unfamiliar with DNS, you'll want to read up on it first. (Page 37 of this document starts Apple's documentation of the DNS service. Also, this forum should provide a good archive of DNS questions/answers.)
