How do I break up a concatenated disk set?

After spending the better part of a week trying to shoehorn in two 500Gb SATA drives into my G4, I coming around to the conclusion that the Sonnet Tech PCI to SATA (TSATA) controller firmware, is not up to the challenge of concatenated drives. The OS and all the files loaded on just fine, but the system simply doesn't want to boot from that volume.
In the short term: I want to separate the drives, to make sure the controller is fully functional i.e. can boot from a single drive.
Long term: send the (new) drives back to the vender while I am still within the grace period, and buy one large drive.
The question now is: has anyone separated a raid back into it's constitute pieces before?
Do I just pull the plug on one and try an erase?

Yeah, I read that too. I have the model TSATA, 2 port, 1.5Gb/sec, internal.
I was able to pull one drive and erase it, put a minimal OS on it and boot.
Now I am trying to find a compatible 750Gb SATA drive, I was going to buy the Seagate until I read there is a problem with the firmware, something about 32mb cache not being recognized and it running dog-slow, also something about nor being able to flash the firmware form a MAC?

In 10.7 I was able to combine a 2TB and a 3TB to make one 5TB drive. Now when I try to do that in Mountain Lion I get this error -

SAVES US, name your preset. When you print again, then you just select that PRESET, and all your print specs for the PRESET should all be there. I hope this helps.

Need help with Concatenated Disk Issue

I have three USB disks I want to arrange into a concatenated disk set. One is Western Digital 2TB and is 'always on'. The other two are LaCie and have on-off switches 1 TB each.
When I power the two drives up (one at a time), the first one fails 50 percent of the time, regardless of which one is first. It shows up "red" in Disk Utility, and an error message comes up. I can power it off again, power it on again and it's fine. They worked great (as single drives) until I tried this so I figure I'm doing something wrong.

Further notes: OSX needs about 15% or 10GB Free space minimum, but will run mucch faster/safer with 30-40% or 50GB of Free Space... Free Space is no longer ours to use.

After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...

Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

Concatenated disc set very slow

I have a 4GB concatenated disk set set up with Software RAID that is very very slow copying files.
Connected to a Macmini latest generation thru a firewire 800 port.
What I get copying files is very slow transfer rate. If I look in Activity monitor I get a 6.8/7.0 MB/S.
Doesn't matter if I copy from USB drive or internal drive. Same transfer speed.
Is there a way to correct? Is it supposed to be so slow with 2TB hard drives?
Cna I split the drives without loosing all the info?
I would expect around 60 MB/S from internal and 34 MB/S from USB drive.

Be sure you are not having any drive problems first. Use some utility to check the access times and throughput. XBench is a good free app for that.
Be sure fragmentation is not a problem. Leaving your computer on one or two nights a week will allow it time to defrag itself.
Leopard loves to "cat-knap". Those WD drives aggravate the problem because they are slow to spin up. I've gotten used to it, I trained myself to have a little patience.
You can ease the problem in preferences > energy saver. Just uncheck the "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" box and set the sleep timers accordingly or throw down some cash and get you one or two of those raptor drives.
Finally, Leo uses more memory than Tiger, be sure you have enough memory available at all times for your disk caches and your programs.

How so I break a raid mirror yet retain data?

I have 2 500g SATA drives on my Mac Pro3.1. They were set up by a friend as a raid mirror using the disc utility software. My question how can I break the raid "mirror" and use these harddrives as individual harddrives???

*To delete a RAID set*:
Back up any important files.
In Disk Utility, select a disk in the set that you want to delete, and click RAID.
Select the RAID set.
If you’re deleting a mirrored RAID set and you see a Convert button, click it to convert the RAID set from version 1.0 to version 2.0.
Deleting a version 2.0 mirrored RAID set leaves a usable copy of the set’s files on each disk. Deleting a version 1.0 set leaves the disks unreadable.
Click Delete.

What are you using?
If it's DiskSuite then use metadetach, you will have to force this though. Also check your metadb's as you need 50% or more to be in a good state (this may be your problem).
#metadetach -f d* d# (* is the mirror name and # is the submirror slice)
#metadb
#metadb -d /dev/dsk/c*t*d*s* (to clear the metadb's on this disk)
To reinstate the metadb's you need to run:
#metadb -a -c <how many you want> /dev/dsk/c*t*d*s*
To reinstate the mirror it is:
#metattach d* d# (same numbers as above)
If Veritas just use option 5 of vxdiskadm.

How can I password a external USB disk?

I now have a Time Capsule and am using this as my Time Machine drive instead of what I was using, a external HDD.
So to complete my backup solution I want to use this external USB drive to backup my most important things, my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and my Home Videos from my camera, and take it off site, so then I have everything that is important to my in 2 places.
So I'll probably store this external disk at my parents or my work, and bring it back every month to update. but how can I security protect the external disk, in case it gets stolen etc? password it or something?
Also what is the best way to backup what I want to the drive? I'm not bothered about a clone of my machine, I just want the libraries backed up and my Home videos for editing.

Yes, and this is typical. They are all messages into the same individual email account as well. Can the thread be broken by me or will it just continue to add messages that have no subject into the thread? Why would it do it under All Inboxes when it doesn't do it under the inbox that they are all in in the first place?

Try calling 1-800-676-2775. Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk). *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?. Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.
