How do i bring my songs to a different itunes account in my name from my fathers itunes library?

i have bought all my songs on my dads itunes since i was a kid and have other 600. now that im going to college i am getting my own laptop and own itunes account. how do i transfer all my songs to my new itunes account?

Tim,
Unfortunately, any content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently associated with the account from which it was purchased, and Apple does not provide any way to change it.  I suppose you could try a special request to iTunes Customer Service;  no harm in asking.
If what you are talking about is only songs, just make copies and add them to your own iTunes library on your own new laptop.  Except for older (purchased before mid 2009) DRM-encumbered tracks, they will play fine.

  • IPhone 4s set to manually sync, but every time I try to put a single song on my phone it downloads my entire library. How do I sync individual songs without downloading entire iTunes library?

I recently purged my iPhone 4S of most of its music because I didn't have enough gigabytes of free space to download the latest iOS (my phone was actually completely full). That ticked me off but I didn't have time for a backup. I transferred all purchases to my library and I deleted the music from my phone.
Since then, I've been annoyed that I don't have all my music but I've been enjoying the free space that I have, so I prefer to restore songs from my library individually now, depending what I'm in the mood to hear, and I don't miss having a full phone.
However, whenever I try to manually sync music that was ripped from a CD, music I didn't download from iTunes, but is playable in my iTunes library, iTunes thinks it has to download the entire library, which I don't even have the space for, anyway. However, my iPhone seems fine wirelessly (I have Home Sharing turned on) syncing individual songs which were purchased in the iTunes store.
So whenever I try to sync a single song, or an album perhaps, which was not purchased on iTunes, I get the message "updating files on iphone" and it says it's copying all the thousands of songs in my entire library. But my settings are for manual sync only. I wind up cancelling the sync every time, because I would have to wait for it to finish copying thousands of songs before it got to the one I selected. Why on earth is it doing this?
How do I regain the ability to sync a single song at a time?
    This has been exasperating me.

While your iPhone is synching in iTunes, do the following:
    1.  Click on your iPhone's icon on the left.
    2.  Find and click on the "Tones" tab on the upper right of the iTunes display.
    3.  Choose the synch option you would like.

  • How do u get your songs onto a new itunes library???????????????

MY WHOLE COMPUTER SYSSTEM HAD 2 GET WIPPED, I STILL HAVE MY SONGS ONMY IPOD BUT I CANT GET MY SONGS ONTO THE NEW ITUNES I JUST DOWNLOADED. HOW DO I GET THE SONGS FROM MY IPOD ONTO MY COMPUTER????????????????? PLEASE HELP ME

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How can I sync my iphone to a different itunes library without erasing my entire iphone

I have synched my iphone to two computers. I want to synch one of my computers (because it contains more music files) to my iphone... the catch is I do not want to erase my entire iphone to do this.  I only want to erase my current iphone library for the one stored on my current desktop pc.  I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

iOS devices can only sync with one library at a time.  To sync with a new library, you have to remove the current libraries content.
An alternative would be to move content to one computer (using an external drive or homesharing), and then sync with the library you choose.

    Hello Jigz19,
It sounds like you are unable to play a couple of songs from your library becuase you get a message that the computer is unauthorized to play, but other content purchased that same day works without issue. I would verify that the affected songs were purchased with the same Apple ID first:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If so, then delete the songs:

Then re download them with this article:

  • Some songs listed in my iTunes Library won't play

I'm running iTunes 8.0.2.20 on Windows XP SP3.
My iTunes library is set to be located in the default place, i.e.
    C:\Documents and Settings\<my user name>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
It's fairly large (11833 songs to date).
I regularly sync my 160GB iPod classic with it.
Recently I have been finding that various songs listed in my iTunes library will not play - if I click to play them, nothing happens.
If I right-click on them (Get Info) and follow the listed path to where they are in my library, I go use Windows Explorer to access the underlying MP3 in a different application (e.g. WinAmp) and the MP3s do seem to be present and correct and play fine in WinAmp.
So far all the songs this has happened with have been ones which were ripped off my CDs to MP3 before I got the iPod, and subsequently imported into iTunes.
Any suggestions as to what is going on and how to repair it?
Obviously, I can manually delete the songs that won't play from iTunes, then re-import them all over again from the original CD..... but this is a bit time-consuming (especially where I have customized the metadata and artwork beyond what is in the Gracenote® database)....and with over 10 thousand songs in my library, there's no way to test them all easily to see which ones work and which don't.
Is my library getting corrupted in some way?
Is there a way to rebuild it somehow? (without losing my customized metadata and artwork?)

Yes, actually lots of folks. iTunes 8 has gotten really fussy about MP3 tags and won't play or even add them to the library if it doesn't care for their format. They may have played in previous versions, but won't now.
Use Mp3 Validator to fix any tag issues. It's a free DL. I've used it, and it works.
Just try it on one song and you'll believe!
Here is a good web article on it:

  • How Do I use my External Drive for my iTunes Library without adding anything to my Mac's HD?

I have a new MBP and have transferred all of my music off my old pc (250+ gigs) to a Lacie 1TB thunderbolt external drive.  How do I use the external as my primary itunes library with out using any of my Mac's HD?  I'm new to mac so I have a few more questions...
    1. The initial question above
    2. will this work or will there be extra steps every time I disconnect and connect the external (other than ejecting)?
    3. Will I be able to access it remotely / home sharing?
    4.  Would this work with itunes match?
    Thanks All  !!!

I haven't set up Time Machine yet because it wants me to completely format my external hard drive, and it seems to want to use it for TM backups exclusively?
However, I would also like to use it to store stuff that I don't want to keep on my computer, eg tons of photos, videos, stuff from my sister's computer, etc.
Is there a way to do Time Machine but also use the external hard drive for storage? I don't mind temporarily copying the photos etc that are on there to my computer while I format, so that's not the issue. I just don't want my EHD rendered completely useless to everything else.
    Thanks!!!
There are several ways to do exactly this.
If you partition the external drive, you can use one partition for TM and the other for anything else.
Even if you do not partition the drive, you can safely store other data in folders on the drive. Just to not use the folder that TM creates for anything. And it's best not to put files directly on the drive, in my opinion, but use folders for storage.
Just remember that whatever you put on the drive takes up room from TM and when the drive gets nearly full, TM will start automatically deleting older files from it's own folder.
I have my Tiger clone on my external TM drive in a separate partition and everything works fine.

I have all my music on an external hard drive. I just transferred all my files to a new hard drive . How do I sync all my files with my itunes library without losing all my playlists etc and keep everything intact?

Launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and specify it. If the external drive doesn't contain the iTunes database files, create a new library there and import that music.
If the library contains any rented movies, they won't play on a different computer.
