How do I browse an OPC Server's Namespace with Teststand ActiveX Steps?

Hello
I use Teststand as the client of an OPC Connection. At the Moment I'm trying to realize an browse funktionality by using the "OPC Automation 2.0" automation server in the
ActiveX adapter.
What I can create is the OPCBrowse object by using the "CreateBrowser" method. But then there's no method to browse the OPC server's namespace for the ItemID's.
Does someone have an idea how I can go on further?
thx, Michael

For your information, there is a new TestStand Add-on "OPC DA Connect" which adds a StepType Palette dedicated to OPC Data Access.
You can configure each step by browsing the OPC servers on your network and browsing variables within these servers.
The browsing functionnality that you where looking for as been implemented in this toolkit.
Hoping this helps.

  • How can I create a portal server authentication user with a batch

    hi,
I am trying to import users into the portal server emulating the create user procedure as plumtree. What I cannot understand at the moment is which classes are involved in the sequence of creating a user.
the problem starts from the fact that I have used a synch WS and it works but, being the table a dummy one and the users to be authenticated by the portal server, I couldn't use that synch as a definitive.
I tryed using plumtree.server.CIPTUser class with no success. could not understand how to actually create the user after setting the parameters to the object.
Is there any documentation explaining how to create the portal server emulation of create user. this could be usefull for all those cases when there is no central repository of user and passwords.
    thanks
    Mario

    This should get you started.
    IPTUser=IPTSession.GetUsers.Create(iAdminFolderID)
    IPTServerContext=IPTUser.GetInterFaces("IPTServerContext")
    IPTServercontext.Store
This is a high level implementation. It should get you very close.

  • How to connect to Pgsql on server through jdbc with java on local machine

I am developing an application in which I have to connect to my database that is in Pgsql and Pgsql is installed on Linux server. I am going to access that from my java program and the java is here on my local computer(in Linux). All the intranet connections are there. How can I get accees to that database? I have heard of java SSL tunnel. Is this the only solution or there is something else that I can use more easily. Also if I use java installed on th same server as Pgsql then what I will have to do to call the java methods using AMI. Will the java at server be able to make connection to Pgsql more easily? Please tell me about it if you know.
    Thanks

The closer java and pgsql, the easier it is of course to connect. So the easiest way is to have everything on the same machine. If you are in the same network you will need an IP based network, which is pretty much standard these days. In this case you need to modify the pg_hba.conf file to allow connections from other machines. In both cases you have to start the postmaster with the -i option to enable enable TCP/IP connections.
Having java and pgsql connected through the internet is a different story, I do not have any experience with that. But you can use ssh to build a tunnel and connect to a local ip address / port from java which is then forwared securely via the internet to the server.
In all cases you will need the postgres jdbc driver in your classpath. You can find information about postgres and jdbc on the postgres web site.
    good luck

  • How to share 10.6 OSX Server print queue with Windows 7 successfully?

I used Bonjour Print Services for a Windows 7 machine (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999) to successfully connect to a Mac OX Server 10.6 print queue, and the following message is generated in the print log and CUPS log,
    "POST/printers/stormoncecar/ HTTP/ 1.1" 200 2205 Print-Job Successful-OK
There are no errors, however, nothing comes out of the printer.  It works for all the Mac OS Client machines, but not for any of the Windows 7 machines.

  • How to create a OPC Server

I must create a OPC serveur to distribute any value to other automation application.

Two possible solution come into my mind:
    1) You could use the LabVIEW DSC module, which is also an OPC Server. Then you define so-called "memory tags" within DSC and access them from your LabVIEW code using the read and write tag VI's or the logos protocol. What is annoying with that solution, is that DSC has no programmatic tag creation, so you must setup the tags manually outside of your code.
    2) Search the net for the "FactorySoft OPC Server Rapid Development Kit". Using that toolkit, a few years ago we programmed an OPC Server which can be embedded into LV code using the "Call Library Function Node". I am still using it. The advantages are that tags can be programmatically created in the LV code, the OPC server can be distributed royalty free (DSC=$$)and the OPC server will consist just of 3 small dll's which are easy to install. However some C/C++ knowledge and a compiler will are required.
J' espère, que ces informations sont utiles pour toi

  • How to install the OPC server with the Application installer

    Hi to all,
I had make the datalogging progam by communication the PLC through modbus using the OPC server.
    1. I had configer the opc client through project explorer some time it run fine but when i run by next day it can't communicate with OPC server but the OPC server is communicating with the PLC.When i right click on the properties of the opc i/o client in the project exploer and make any change and again run the application it works where the problem is.
2.The second problem is while building the installer who OPC server will installered to my targate PC.Bacuse i had installed the application  on the target PC just for testing but OPC server havn't installed even though there is no option for the addition of the OPC server while bulding.
    Solved!

    HI Serdar,
Thanks for the reply i had seen your example your idea is ok but if i have more then 100 tag and with different data types then where is problem to manage all those tags.
Now what i had done i had put the express vi of create or configer I/O server and give the process name same as file name like opcdemomo and same server name mention in the project explorer and restart and shout down tow and three times it works i havn't get any problem.but that is not the good method.

  • Kepware opc server

How can I configure KEPware OPC Server with Labview 7.1 or Labview 8.5 DSC.
I would appriciate, if you guys give the information link or tutorial link.
    Thanks

I haven't done this with version 8.5 yet. It will use the shared variable to link to an OPC server.
    http://search.ni.com/nisearch/main/p/sb/navsRel?q=shared+variable+dsc+&x=16&y=5
Version 7.1 uses the tag engine to connect with an opc server.
The two labview versions use different methods to talk with an opc server.
Which labview version do you really want to use??

  • OPC server items not found with NI DSC nor datasocket

    Hi,
I am using LabVIEW 2009 SP1 and an OPC server from ifak (isPro Multiserver v 2.5.1) on a windows XP professional SP3 platform.
If i use the datasocket vi "browse for URL" then I can navigate to the server, it starts the server (I can see the hardware "coming to live" and logging on to the UUT -the network is a profibus network with 1 USB/profibus gateway as master and 1 UUT profibus slave. However, when navigating through the branches of the server I can not navigate to the OPC items. I can navigate to the point where they should be, but then the browser waits a few seconds and then displays "no items" and places a red cross through the icon.
When using the manufacturer OPC client, I can navigate to the items and I can see them, read them or write them. The funny thing is that I can also browse to these items using the NI Quick OPC client(!) When using datasocket VIs, or when configuring a project using the DSC module --> new I/O server --> OPC client --> browse to OPC server and then trying to configure the labview library to hold the OPC items, I never get to see the actual items.
This seems to be a DCOM problem but I can not believe that, since
    1) the manufacturer OPC client sees the items
    2) the NI Quick OPC client sees the items
    3) I followed all guidelines from
    http://www.automation.com/pdf_articles/OPC_and_DCOM_5_things_you_need_to_know.pdf
    and
    http://www.automation.com/pdf_articles/Troubleshooting_OPC_and_DCOM.pdf
and I also set the OPC server access to "the interactive user", as recommended by NI.
The OPC server and OPC client reside on the same computer, but in any case I also disabled the windows firewall. There are no other firewalls running.
I am completely stuck in this application, since I can access the OPC items using any client, but I can not access them via LabVIEW
If anybody has a suggestion, please help me.
    best regards,
    Stijn

    Hi Stijn Schacht
These seems to be some bugs with OPC Client instances created using LabVIEW 2009 SP1,  when we tried to communicate to Siemens S7 PLC.
Basically when deploying the shared variable library configured with OPC Client instance, it crashes the SVE.
From all your observations, what i can suggest is, try with LabVIEW 2009 along with DSC 2009.
    Thanks,
    Vijay Jayabalan.

  • OPC server trouble seeing tags in NI Distributed System Manager

I have created my own OPC server for simulation purposes.  If I create an I/O server and select my OPC server I can then "create bound variable" in which I can browse my OPC tags which are all in there.  I use another program which makes use of property nodes to acquire a list of paths to these tags.  The list is empty.  I noticed that when I run the "NI Distributed System Manager" I can see the I/O Server but the sub tree doesn't show my tags.  If I got them to show up in "NI DSM" then I could get a list of tag paths.  Does anyone know why my tags would show up in the "created bound variable" window and not the "NI DSM" window?  I have tried deploying the library that the I/O server is in but this doesn't work.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Thanks for the reply Charris,
I have two OPC servers.  One is the simulator and one that I connect to at a remote location which required some OPC client software (some service in windows registry which I am not familiar with). All I know is that I can browse all tags on the remote OPC server by first creating an I/O server (yes I use OPC client) and selecting "create bound variables".  Before I bind any shared variables to OPC tags I can go into DSM and see all the tags that are not yet shared variables.
When I try doing this with the simulator, I first create the I/O server before I can browse all the tags in "create bound variables".  But this time when I go to the DSM, they are not listed under the I/O server.  This is just an observation.
My real problem is that I use this piece of code found on the NI website to get a list of tags (URLs).  This code works with the remote OPC server but not with the simulator.
I don't really understand the code.  All I know is that if I input the name of the library and the name of the I/O server as well as the path to the PC, it brings back a list of URLs pointing to tags.  Maybe there is something in this VI you can help with.
    Thanks
    Matt

  • Communicate With OPC Server

I am Using the PLC of Unitronics they have there OPC server called uniOPC sever i need to communication the OPC server using DSC what are the steps to communication.I am new with Labview.

How Do I Connect to an OPC Server Using DataSocket?

  • What is scan time (or polling frequency) of OPC Server of Labview

What is the scantime of OPC Server.

    Hi Aithal,
First of all, thank you very much for posting this additional information, as it is much more useful to help you out going forward.
To clarify, when interacting with PLCs, LabVIEW is acting as a client and the PLC (via an OPC Server) is the server. If you wished to share some data from LabVIEW to other applications via OPC, this is technically possible as well, since the LabVIEW shared variable engine acts as an OPC server.
    1. I am not sure in terms of speed whether you would be able to capture this amount of data in this amount of time, as this is dependent on the device (PLC ) that you are communicating with, network traffic (if it is ethernet), etc. The data rate at which you can capture from a particular PLC with new data is going to be something you will need to determine empirically.
    2. Most commonly, yes, people use an OPC server to communicate with a PLC (or sometimes Modbus). This is frequently something that is provided by their PLC manufacturer on a CD or for download, but in some instances not. We do offer Industrial Automation OPC Servers, which provides support for many common PLCs.
Once you have done this, you may either use datasocket to communicate with the OPC server, or we recommend the LabVIEW DSC Module, as it enables you to bind shared variables to your OPC items, and also adds logging, alarming and security to the variables.
    3. It entirely depends upon your PLC. If it supports serial communication, then you could likely use NI-VISA commands to interface with it, and a good starting point would be the example in the Example Finder entitled "Basic Serial Write and Read.vi".
