How do I build a new account on old version of iChat?

If there's a tutorial for this somewhere, just point me. Otherwise ...
We have Macs at worrk (Mac OS X 10.4.11) and I have Windows XP at home (long story). My editor wants us to be able to talk to iChat ()version 3.1.9 (v446) instant messenger framework 4.29) users at work if we're at home. I found software to do that via AIM. I was under the impression that I had to have the same username and password on my software here that I use at work if I want to connect to the office iChat network.
I opened Preferences>Accounts in iChat at work and got my username. But, it was set up years abo by a previous IT guy who didn't record the password. So I deleted the account to start over from scratch. Used the + symbol to add a new account, entered the new username and password. Then I tried logging in. It kept saying I was using the wrong password. I was very careful entering that password when I built the account, so I don't see what the problem is?
Help?

Hi,
iChat 3.x will at least Text chat with any version of AIM (5.5 through to the current 7.whatever) or from AIM Express (Web Browser login) or Trillian using an AIM Screen Name.
Registering a  new AIM Screen Name will keep you to the Password's 16 character max length automatically.
Providing there are no typos there should not be a problem.
Checks (Will also be usefult to find the Old Account's Password.)
Old User Tip  (The "First Steps part have links that do not work.)  Use the Next Step section for checking the Keychain, after doing the paragraph below first.
To Check On line as it were either try Logging in here at the top right of the page.
Or Launch AIM express in a web Browser and make sure the Name works.
Once you have found that the name works or does not work then you can procede with checking the Keychain.
Once you have recovered the Password(s) there (Or edited any correction) you should be able to get Chat to Work (At Work).
