How do I burn a video onto a dvd out of imovie 11?
Also the program churns and churns, till I'm able to do something else. Why so slow? Is there any render button?

Here is a step by step on how to create a DVD from iMovie 10 using iDVD 7.1.2. If you do not have iDVD, you can probably substitute Toast (or one of the programs Pieter mentioned) everywhere I used iDVD (I don't have Toast so can't verify this).
    1. Create a project in iMovie 10.0.1
    2. Go to File>Share>File... and for Size choose Large 540P (960 x 540) and click Next
    3. Choose a location on the hard drive to save the file to.
    4. Wait for the blue circle activity indicator to finish.
    5. In Finder, verify that iMovie created an MP4 file in the location specified in step 3.
    6. Open iDVD and click "Create New Project."
    7. Give the project a name and save it to your hard drive.
    8. Drag the file you created earlier from the Finder into your iDVD project window.
(or go to File>Import>Video... and choose your video there)
    9. Make any adjustments to drop zones, etc.
    10. Click the burn button.
    11. Insert a DVD and let it do its thing.
This produces a working DVD for me.
    Here are my software specs:
    OS X 10.9 Mavericks
    iMovie 10.0.1
    iDVD 7.1.2

  • How do I burn raw video without themes?

I just need a video to start playing without the fancy themes (very dry technical video usage so nothing fancy)....how do I do that or with vanilla theme at worst?
    I have a macbook 10.4.8
    Thanks!

Just to add to OT's advice. There is only one way within iDvd'08 itself to make a DVD with no menu whatsoever...... that's a One Step DVD (See very last option below)
This type of DVD will always play in what is called a "Koisk Mode" .... little or no user interaction after inserting the DVD into a computer or set top DVD Player.
Adding a Menu (even a basic one as described above) adds stability to playback and is highly recommended.
Another option is Roxio Toast (third party app) which can also burn a dvd w/o a menu in Kiosk Mode and that will play all movies in succession.
Another approach I often use (w/o using iDvd) to burn raw video is a set top DVD Player Recorder with Digital /FW inputs which I then connection directly to a camcorder / camera (Sony Trv900) via FW/i.Link and the deck writes to DVD-R in real time with a very basic menu that looks like this:

  • How do I burn my videos onto dvd

I tried burning a video playlist onto DVD afterwards I tried playing it but the files could not be read. Please Help!

Movies and TV Shows purchased from iTunes Store cannot be burned to DVD in a format readable by traditional DVD Players. you are only able to burn them as data, readable by other iTunes capable computers.

  • HOW DO I BURN MY VIDEO TO A DVD

Hi I'm a news editor and have used Final Cut Pro in the news room before, but I just got Final Cut Pro 5 for my home comp and I edited a sequence but now I dont know how to burn it onto a DVD. Can someone talk me through it? I also have DVD studio pro 4. I need to figure this out ASAP!

If you're using iDVD, you won't get great quality on any program much over an hour in duration. You'd be better off using Compressor and DVD-SP, both of which will provide for greater control over the encoding and authoring process.
If quality is the main objective, I'd seriously consider using dual layer media (DVD 9) in order to keep the bit rate higher. Also, in Compressor, encode the audio to Dolby Digital (AC3) to allow for more room for the video content.
If you must use iDVD, you may want to create a 2 disc set. That will also allow for greater quality. Keep in mind that iDVD is sort of a one-button approach to accomplish several steps; encoding, authoring and burning; it isn't taking 12 hours to burn, most of that time iDVD is doing the MPEG-2 encoding.
When exporting from FCP for iDVD, you need to fully render your Sequence first, then export a QuickTime Movie (File->Export->QuickTime Movie), NOT "Using QuickTime Conversion. Make sure to include Chapter Markers if you've set them, do NOT "Recompress all Frames" and I do recommend making the movie Self-Contained.
One last thing. As I stated above, it's best not to threadjack. If you have a question to post, post a new topic in the forum. More people will see your question that way and you'll most likely get more possible solutions and advice.

  • How can I burn a video shot with an iPhone 4 to a CD so a Windows user can watch it?

I shot a short video with my AT&T iPhone 4 and it's stored in iPhoto 9.1.5 on my iMac running OS X 10.6.8. What do I need to do in order to burn it to a CD so I can give it to a Windows user so he can view the video on his PC running Vista? I'm not sure about the video file format needed for Windows to play the video. Thanks for any help you can provide. I know this is likely a very basic question, but nothing I've tried seems to work. Any suggestions or links to resources that can answer this question will be deeply appreciated.

You should be able to connect to their computer via your USB cable, copy the video over using Windows Explorer and the PC should be able to view it without any conversion.
When you do this, make sure they don't have iTunes set to automatically open and automatically sync when an iOS device is connected.

  • How do you burn a video file not compatible with quicktime?

    Hello all,
I am very new at this so I apologize if the solution is very simple - i just can't seem to work this iDVD thing...
I've searched through the forums and can't seem to find exactly what I need, please point me in the right direction if a solution has already been posted elsewhere.
Okay, so my problem is trying to burn movies to DVD. I don't actually have to use iDVD, but it's the only solution i've come up with. My problem is when I add a movie file (lets say, something that will ONLY OPEN with VLC), and press preview, no movie files show up... but when i put in a video file that will play with quicktime, the preview works fine.
So i suspect the preview wont play because the file is not compatible with quicktime.
have any of you tried this? All i want is to be able to play a downloaded movie on the dvd player downstairs
    regards,
    Peter

iDvd is not a general burn utility. However, there's a very good chance (whatever that file is) that Toast will burn it to Dvd-R. And if not (which is unlikely) then do as suggested already and use Mpegstream Clip. It's 100% free! However Mpeg 2 playback component may run you a few bucks (if needed).
Or the alternative is to invest hundreds of dollars in Apple software and use apps like FCP and DVDSP (or FCS) along with QT Pro. Nine times out of ten this combination tends to work well ... but it ain't cheap (not to mention a rather steep learning curve).

  • How can I burn family videos on a CD to play on a DVD player?

I burned some amily videos onto a CD but was unable to play it on the DVD player. I have plenty of CD's. I don't have any blank DVD's. Is ther a relatively simple way to resolve this?

You first edit and create your movie in iMovie, then you transfer that project to iDVD to create a DVD that will play on any DVD player or computer. That is what iDVD is for. Video on CD rarely works except on the computer that created them.
A good guide to iDVD 7 can be found here:

  • HT5899 How can I burn iPhone video to DVD to view on a TV please?

I have an iMac Mountain lion and 4S iPhone.  I have imported my iPhone video into iMovies but am unable to burn video to a DVD that will play on a TV (it will only play on a computer). Can any one help please?

iMovie is not DVD authoring software. You need to use a professional DVD authoring software like iDVD (Apple discarded it on new Macs in the past 2-3 years, if you dont have it, give another alternative AppGeeker DVD Creator here a whirl) to burn and create a playable DVD that can be played on an ordinary DVD player.

  • ITunes, How do I burn a video to an iPod

    Hi!
1st time user. I bought my daughter an iPod Touch and I want to put Gossip Girl 2nd season onto her iPod. Can I purchase it on my iTunes and then transfer it to her iPo? I guess my question is "Will iTunes recognize the 2nd iPod so I can transfer the videos to it? Thanks!!

Certainly, the fastest way to do this is by acquiring something like Toast, which will convert most videos to DVD. (I purchased my copy through a MacUpdate bundle, at a cut-rate price.)
I haven't used it, but Apple's iDVD will do the job, as well.

  • How can I burn dvds of videos and pictures on my iphone?

I have a PC and would like to find out how I can burn a cd with video and pictures taken with my iPhone.  Also, will the video be in HD on the disc that I create?  Thanks!

You will need to have those files available for the process on your computer because this is a task which cannot be accomplished from the iPhone. You will need a disk burning utility on your computer (Roxio's software comes to mind as a possibility). The quality of the output is entirely dependent upon the nature of the original files and the capabilities of the software application. They can be written as a data disk or, in the case of the video, written as a movie so long as it is an unprotected file (from your own capture, for example). This entire operation has to be worked through on your computer. There is a minimal degree to which you can edit your captured video in the iPhone (3GS or 4) but it does not compare to the scope that would be available to you in a proper editing application on the computer.

How do I save my video in jpeg format so I can add picture to it and burn a DVD through Photo Explosion version 4

    Thanks for the follow up.
In Premiere Elements 13/13.1, your export choices are in the Publish+Share section of the project. There are several choices and sub-choices.
Example: Publish+Share/Computer/and then a list of choices under that, such as, MPEG, AVI, AVCHD, XAVC-S, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, Audio.
And each has Presets which define the export settings. Adobe offers default settings which are usually optimized ones. But, it also allows you to customize the preset selected. You do that by clicking on the Advanced Button of the selected preset and customizing the settings under the Video Tab, Audio Tab, and, if applicable, Multiplexer Tab.
From what you wrote, I thought that you might be asking about exporting a video with a video codec = Photo JPEG.
To do that you would to to
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
with Presets = either the one for 4:3 of 16:9 as appropriate for your project,
and then clicking on the Advanced Button, and then the Video Tab under the Advanced Button.
Then selecting Photo JPEG for the video codec field.
Tip: The QuickTime choice is not seen unless you scroll down the list of Computer choices. Use the thin scroll bar to the right of the Computer choices.
Please explore Premiere Elements 13/13.1's Publish+Share/Disc/DVD with standard or widescreen preset for your creation of the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
The Premiere Elements timeline destined for this choice could consistent of supported photos and or videos.
    Please consider.
Any questions and need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
