I tried to go to the ITunes store today and found that I cannot get past the page to download ITunes 10? How can I get to the store without installing ITunes 10. I need to stay on ITunes version 8 because ITunes version 9 removed a feature I depend on (the ability to put podcasts on playlists). I know eventually I will have to stop using ITunes. Has that time come for me?

Well you can download the install file directly from this website; click the big thing that says iTunes right next too support at the top of the page. Or open iTunes and select help from the top and then select check for updates.

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.
To roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.

You could follow the instructions in the support document that you linked from. There is a section regarding the passcode and the inability to use it or enter it. However, you may encounter more issues since you cannot use the screen.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Your question(s) is/are a little hard to understand. So your husband has an iPod as well as a netbook and he wants to be able to sync iPod with this netbook is that correct? If so, he'll need to first download and install iTunes assuming the netbook is running some version of Windows such as 7, Vista, or XP.

As for importing or ripping music, he'll have to either use an external CD/DVD drive that is attached via USB or rip the songs to another PC you have with a built in CD/DVD drive. Once you have imported them to the other computer, you can transfer the songs to an external hard drive or to his iTunes library via Home Sharing.
