How can I cancel my Apple ID and no longer have my Mastercard on file with Apple? In other words, how do I cancel my ID?

It is not possible to cancel an ID. The ID needs to stay around in order for you to authorize purchased music on new computers in the future.
If you are concerned about your information being stored online, then all you have to do is log into your account and change the credit card number to bogus values such as all zeroes. That way, your account will remain around but your valid information will not be stored.

As it is impossible to merge Apple ID's I would like to cancel the one that I don't use and need anymore. But even when I sign into my account there is no hint or else to just erase or cancel the whole thing. Any ideas? Thankx a lot!

You can't. Just use the one you favour from now on and the other will fade gracefully away. But remember, updates to purchases you have made will still require you to use the original details. You will need to edit the details on App store so that only your preferred ID shows up.

De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

I think that as soon as you click "Buy" and type in your details, the iTunes server is alerted that you have bought the item, even if it hasn't downloaded. Your "purchased" list is based on your account and not your computer so I'm afraid even if you haven't completed the download, you will be charged for it (but if you do now download it, you won't be charged again). This also means that you can't remove items from the purchased list.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
