How do i change camera raw in cs6?

just upgraded to CS6 on XP system. My new nikon d7100 is not supported in CS5. I have tried uplaoding various new camera raw versions but can not make a change within cs6 as it still only see the outdated version 7. I understand that I need to run veriosn 7.4 - 8.1 as new versions will not work on XP.
I have gone through the "help" "update" section and it says that everything is now up to date but still showing an outdated version 7 when I look at was the program is using in the Preference section.
geez it was nice in the days that a person could talk to an actual human. I thought I paid enough over the years to adobe and I would pay more to save these hours of frustration!

Steps to install:
After you download the 8.3 dng converter and Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip
1. Double click on the 8.3 dng converter to install
   Right click on the Camera Raw_83_GM_32bit.zip and select Extract All to see the camera raw plugin inside
2. Right click on the Camera Raw.8bi and select Copy
3. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats
   Drag the existing camera raw plugin to the recycle bin
   Right click and select Paste to paste the new 8.3 camera raw plugin
With any luck, you should now have camera 8.3 available in both photoshop cs6 and bridge cs6

What system? What's the current version of ACR? In any case, if updates don't apply, it usualyl means reinstalling the base app and trying again...

You may need to purge your Bridge cache for the folder with Mark II raws in it using:
Bridge / Tools / Cache / Purge Cache For Folder current-folder-name
I can see Mark II files in Bridge 5.0.2 for CS6 after installing the ACR 8.8 update, but I didn't try viewing thumbnails in the folder before I had ACR 8.8 so there were no cached "cannot read this file" thumbnails..
If purging the cache and letting it rebuild doesn't work check to see what version of ACR Bridge has by using ridge / Edit / Camera Raw Preferences... (that's the Windows menu path). Here is what I see:

If there is enough space on the media then you could put a folder of JPGs and a folder of TIFs, separately. It depends on how many you’re giving them. If you’re high-end you could give them an Wi-Fi iPad with the photos on it, or at least a non-Apple tablet with a removable flash-card for more easy offloading.

I can't figure out how to access the Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop Elements 11 ( on a Macbook Pro OSX.) I recently installed PSE 11, and when I select "about plug-in" within the app, it brings up a box that shows version 7.1.0.354. Does that mean it's already installed? If so, how do I access it to edit a photo? In past PSE versions I simply chose "Open file / as Camera Raw" but that option doesn't come up.

Camera Raw is not a separate application that can be identified and used separately from Photosho. It is a plug-in that is accessed from Photoshop or Bridge or Photoshop Elements. When you attempt to open a raw image the plug-in is activated if it is able to recognize the files created by the camera you used. However, support must be provided for every individual camera model. Updates must be provided with this new support. The latest version of Camera Raw that can be used with Photoshop CS5 is Camera Raw 6.7. You can find out what version of Camera Raw is installed by going to the help menu in Photoshop and then clicking on plug-ins->Camera Raw. If the version that is reported is older than 6.7 then you can click on help->updates and obtain an installation of the last version of Camera Raw you can use. If your camera is newer than what was supported in Camera Raw 6.7 then you will have to use the DNG converter or purchase Photoshop CS6, or subscribe to the creative cloud photography plan ($9.99/month).

I just looked that up. You need at least Adobe Camera Raw 8.3 which only Photoshop CS6 and above has.

What version of mac os x are you using?
It sounds like you set Enable to Camera Raw instead of setting Format to Camera Raw.
Where it says Format, set that to All Readable Documents and for the most part you shouldn't have to change that.
After you click on the jpeg file in the Open Dialog, set the Format to Camera Raw
