How do I change default printer settings in Lion?

I just got a new MacBook Pro and after installing the correct drivers and setting up my printer, it now prints 2-sided by default.  How do I change this default setting?
I'm using a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.7.4, printing over AirPort to a KonicaMinolta office machine.  I had this same setup with my old MBP (OS X 10.6.8) with no problems whatsoever.

Many vendors have started releasing printer drivers that have been defaulted to two-sided (duplexed). I would assume that the printer driver you are using on 10.6 is an older version compared to that being used on Lion.
There are two possible actions. One is to create a Preset that has the driver set to single sided and use this preset when you don't want duplex. The other is to modify the PPD for the printer so that it is set to single sided by default.
Making a Preset is easy. Open a document and select to print. Make the changes in the print dialog to set single sided printing and then open the Presets menu and choose to save this change for this KM printer. Then whenever you print to the KM just ensure the Preset is set to whatever name you gave to the single sided setting.
As for modifying the PPD, this is done via the CUPS web page.
To access CUPS, open Safari and type
http://127.0.0.1:631/printers
This will open the CUPS Printer administration page and will show all the printers currently configured on the Mac. For the printer that you wish to change the defaults for, click its name in the Queue Name column.
Clicking the printer name will open the printer administration page for that printer. Here you need to click on the Administration drop menu and then select Set Default Options.
This will show a new page with four menu headings (links); Options Installed, General, Banners and Policies. Select General. Scroll down the list until you find an entry like "Finishing" or something similar that shows the single sided and two sided setting. Change this from 2 sided to 1 sided.
With the option selected you then need to scroll down the list to the bottom of the page where you will see the ‘Set Default Options’ button. Click this button and you will then be presented with an authentication window. Enter the account name and password that has been set as the admin for this Mac. And then press the Log In button. You will then see another page stating that the information change is completed.
Now you can open an application and select to print and then check the output is set to single sided.

  • How do i change default printer settings

    Hi
I have an Epson Photo PX720WD.
When I print photos directly from Finder they always print on the A4 plain paper I have in the tray rather than the 6 x 4 photo paper I want them to. The print option in Finder doesn't give me any opportuntiy to select settings like, for instance, iPhoto.
I don't want to import all pics into iPhoto as i like being able to print them from Finder so does anyone know how I can change the settings, preferably to make the 6 x photo setting the deafult?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Eustace
thanks for the reply.......I'm on 10.7.5 but I think the issue is that I'm not printing from an App, I want to print direct from Finder and when I select cmd/p or go through the file menu and select print the dialogue box doesn't appear or isn't an option.
On all Apps that I've printed from cmd/p brings up the dialogue box or going to the file menu the print option looks like this:
    Print....
Direct from Finder there are no dots meaning no dialogue box will appear.
I have about 50 pics I want to print so if I can change the default settings then I can simply cmd/p every time knowing that they'll print the way I want them.
I would also like to change the default settings as I print pics about 95% of the time so it's less hassle to change it when I want a plain A4 print.
    Any ideas?!!
    Thanks again
    Steve

  • Change default print settings in PS

I was wondering if anyone knows how I could change the default print settings so that crop marks and labels are turned on by default.  I've tried using automator, and making an action but haven't had any luck.  Thanks.

    anyone??
It would also be nice to have a default set of commands under print settings, like paper size, media type, color management, etc.

  • HOW DO I CHANGE MY PRINT SETTINGS SO THAT THEY STAY SET TO MY PRINTER DEFAULTS?????????????????????????????????????????

This one issue is probably the one thing that would make me abandon Firefox FOREVER (besides the problems with Flash). If I change print settings for ONE COPY I have nothing but HELL trying to get my print settings BACK to my PRINTER defaults. Why can't Firefox be like the REST of the computer world and have the PRINTER DEFAULTS override Firefox?????
I made a change yesterday and I have NOT been able to get it changed BACK to the defaults.
    Is thois too complicated?

  • Changing default printer settings in SAP Portal

    Hi,
When i am trying to print the report in SAP Portal, the default page setting is A3 , i need to change it to 8.5 * 11 inches.
    Is it possible??
    Thanks
    Janc

    Hi,
You can change the Page Settings in your Internet Explorer.
    File --> Page Setup.
    Try doing this.
Are you on BI 3.5 or 7.0?
Also, you are using the Query Designer or WAD ?
In WAD7.0 you can Export the Template with the Query and set the size as A4 or 8.5 x 11 inches.
While viewing the Query designer output also, you select the size. Default is A4.

  • How Can I Change Default Zoom Settings For Safari?

I just got my new iMac and hate the fact that everytime I open Safari everything is small and centered directly in the Safari screen.  How can I change the default settings so it either zooms in more or is in a landscaped mode so I don't have two big white patches on the sides of my window?

The only way I know of, (and that I use) is as follows:
Open textedit and create a new document.
Add the following 3 lines to the file
    body {
    zoom: 175%
Save the file as "somename.css". I called mine defaultzoom.css and saved it in Documents.
In Safari go to Preferences | Advanced.
In the Style sheet: dropdown box choose "other" and browse to the location of your somename.css file.
That's it, now webpages will open with the default zoom level you used in the file (I use 175% but you need to tweak it for your screen size). Also, I do run into situations where some pages don't render correctly. If that happens you can go back to Safari | Preferences | Advanced and change the Style sheet dropdown box to none until you are done viewing that paticular website. Then just put it back when you are done.

  • How do I change my printer settings programmatically ?

How do I open a print menu, to change the printer, the orientation and the number of pages to be printed out during the execution of a LabVIEW program ?

    Check out the example at:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.DISPLAY_EPD4?p_guid=B45EACE3DFC656A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52084&p_submitted=N&p_rank=&p_answer=&p_source=External
If you set the VI to display the printer dialog you can set the printer and the print orientation from there...the number of pages should be possible to control from what you actually put in the VI to be printed.

  • How do I change the printer settings on macBook pro OSX v10.8.1?

I am trying to print a webpage but i want it in duplex format (two pages front and back on one sheet). The default is set to "one sided". I can't seem to change the presets (under presets > show presets > copies and pages > settings and value). Usually we can change the value, ie. the number of copies and change the format to "duplex". I can't seem to change the value.

I am running Leopard OS in 64 bit mode. Everytime I want to run my Cisco VPN client I reboot it in 32 bit mode by holding the two keys (don't remember what two keys at the moment).  I am looking for another way to run my Cisco VPN.  I don't see the check box labeled "Open in 32-bit mode" .  The only thing I see is "Open in Rosetta" or something like that.  Is the check box "Open in 32-bit mode" only show in Lion X OS?

  • Changing default printer settings

This may be a dumb question, but I can't figure out how to set my printer to always print black & white as the default. This has caused me to go through tons of color cartridges & I'm tired of it. What am I missing? I used to be able to adjust this all the time on a PC (I cringe saying that...I'm so anti-PC)

The settings will vary from one printer brand/model to the next. In my Print dialog box (I have a Canon MP 800) there is a drop-down list with a selection called "Quality & Media". Looking at that, I can check off the Grayscale box to get black & white. Yours may be different, but there should be a setting in there somewhere, unless your printer doesn't allow it at all.

  • How do I change my printing settings from "normal" to "fast" ?

    HP Officejet J4580 All-in-one
    OS:  Max OS X 10.5.8
    No error message
No changes made to my system.  My printer has always printed at "normal" but my boss has his setting to "fast" however we can't figure out why my print window appears different than his.

    Hello,
Thanks for the post.  There may be several reasons why the printing options are different, maybe updates/versions, different OS, even different printer (different options).  I've attached a link below that may assist (or at least get you started) in locating the printing preferences that you are looking for.  Good Luck!

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • Changing Permanent Default Print Settings

    Hello All,
A few months ago, I somehow managed to change my print settings permanently to B&W. I know it wasn't just changed to grayscale through the print menu when I try to print a document. I have a Canon MP470 and am running Leopard OS X. I remember having to go through lots of layers of menus to get it to do this, I just don't remember how I got there.
A page somewhere on the internet showed step by step how to do this. I can no longer find it. I know my printer still prints color as it will still make color copies using the copy machine function.
Does anybody have any idea how to undo this?
    Thanks for your help!

The location of the grayscale setting would depend on which driver you are currently using. There are two Canon provided drivers, a v6.9.3 and a v10.1.2 'CUPS' driver. There is also a Gutenprint offering and there is also PrintFab.
If you open System Preferences > Print & Fax and select the MP470 in the Printers list, you can check the version of driver you have by selecting the Options & Supplies and looking at the General tab.
For the v6.9.3 driver, the Grayscale Printing setting is located under the Quality & Media menu. If you selected this and then made a Preset, then that would give you a default b&w option.
But your post suggests that you changed more than this so I'm not sure what you would have done differently to the above. There is no function to default the printer to b&w via the machine control panel.
If you want to keep your locked b&w driver you could add another printer queue using the same version driver or the other version driver.
Or if you want to remove the current b&w driver, then you could reset the printing system and then add a new printer queue.

  • How do i change the quality settings of my printer? the options are there but greyed out!

how do i change the quality settings of my printer? the options are there but greyed out! ie on my old HP I could print in draft if i wanted to print a doc to read and then bin...the option/box is there but greyed out so I can't select. HELP!!!

You can change the background display color in the playback preferences, either black, white, or checkerboard. This does not change the output color. If you want to add a color to the video, you have to place a custom generator underneath your video and change the color in the inspector.
