How do i change dpi?

Is iphoto capable of changing dpi apart from export at different size files?

Thanks Larry, I should have been more specific, I was looking more at reinterpolation whereby you can determine the size (inches) then choose the quality (dpi) as in some other software I have used? I was wondering if iphoto has some hidden wonders?

  • How do I change DPI in Photoshop CC without changing the pixel dimension of the file?

I used to be able to do this in Photoshop CS6 by simply clicking the check boxes in the "image size" dialog box:
    scale styles
    constrain proportions
    resample image
    (all boxes UNCHECKED)
Then input the dpi (usually converting a 300dpi print file to 72dpi for web). And the pixel dimension will stay the same.
In CC the only option I see is "scale styles" which does not apply to the pixel dimension of the file.
Please help. I would hate to have to do this function in CS6 all the time.
    CS6:
    CC:

Just uncheck the [ ] Resample checkbox, then change your Resolution.
Change the units from Percent to Pixels if you want to see pixel dimensions.
Once you've successfully run it through (after OK), note that it will remember your units settings the next time you use it.

  • How do i change export dpi to 300 in Lightroom?

I find when exporting tiffs or editing images in external editor from lightroom files are always at 240dpi but i want to use 300 dpi, how do i change this?

Second, for exporting, it's in the export dialog. For editing, it's in the preferences.

  • How do I change the dpi in illustrator?

I created an image in illustrator and saved it as a jpeg. When I took it to print in the shop they told me the image had the wrong dpi (72). How can I change this so that I can print the image?
Thanks for your help in advance.

When you save the file as .jpg there is a dialog that opens that allows you
to set the resolution. 72 is the (old) standard for internet images because
older monitors worked at 72hz and pixels were scanned 1/1 at that rate.
With today's falt screen monitors, scan rate is a thing of the past so only
pixel count size is relevant fro web display. For print, simply set the dpi
to high (300) or more (custom).
Also, you'll need to discus with the print shop what formats thay like to
use best. .jpg is not often used for print, CMYK .tiff is used more often
    along with .pdf production ready.

  • How do you change the dpi settings in iPhoto

How do you change the dpi settings in iPhoto

Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing.  Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How to get or change DPI?

I'm very new at Photoshop. I have a photograph that I'm working with and a vendor is needing this file to be in, at a minimum, 350 DPI. I'm not entirely sure how to obtain the DPI, although I went to FIle > File Info > Camera Data tab and if understand this correctly, the file is 300 DPI. Here is a screenshot from photoshop:
    So my questions are:
    1. Is this the correct way to determine the DPI of an image file?
    2. Can I convert the image to 350 DPI?
    3. If so, how would I go about converting it to 350 DPI?

Oh yes, I did notice the Postscript connection.  It was also a standard in Photoshop's View > Print Size, until somewhere along the way they allowed user input of screen resolution. (Sometime after PS 6.0.1)  It made sense for print size display on a 72 ppi screen.
In the case of my Macbook, the 114 ppi screen resolution would allow the onscreen rulers to match a physical ruler and a document could be shown actual printed size using View > Print Size.
Web designers held onto to the 72 ppi as sort of a low end when designing for.screen displays in the 1990s. I guess that's why it's still around.

  • How do you change the speed of a detached audio clip?

I have a piece of detached audio.  Video Frame rate is 23.98.  The piece of Video above it is Video Frame Rate 24.
How do I change the speed of this detached audio clip?

Nope, the Automatic Speed did not work.  I exported the XML, and then ran it through X2Pro to try and get my AAF, and it still spits out conform warnings/errors on those same spots.  Automatic Speed apparently did nothing helpful to my situation.  (Can Anyone explain Automatic Speed?)
Will have to try going through Cinema Tools per the similar issues noted in this conversation: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/28007
Curious to see what FCPX would do with this media, importing the 24p file to a 25 Project cause a noticeable shift in both time and pitch.
I imported the time coded audio separately, and played it against the obviously speed and pitched changed video with embedded audio. The files did not sync.
The audio remained in time and pitch, while the video didn't. So the audio tc doesn't seem to effect playback in FCPX, but video definitely does, and it seems rather buggy.
So, if your video is 24.0 and your audio is 23.98 and you are in a 23.98 timeline, FCPX might be changing the speed of the video without really reporting it. Resetting speed doesn't do anything, hitting "automatic speed" screws it up a bit more (it goes the wrong way). Changing the speed to something like 96% (FCPX reports 96% but I know it's really ((24000/1001)/25) which is just short of 96%. Turning off the "preserve pitch" checkbox actually pitched the audio back to normal.
I didn't create the 24.0 vs 23.9 media that you have, but perhaps you are having similar issues, or a different combination/permutation therein.
But to answer your question, the time coded audio was not changed, only embedded audio.
    and
But here some notes which makes things hopefully clearer.
Resampling and changing playback speed are two totally different things.
Samplerate for audio is the same as fps for video (not dpi for video) so let's call it sps.
You can record audio at any sampling rate. But let's take 48 kHz and 32 kHz here.
Record 60 seconds. Once recorded both files as stand alone files will play 60 seconds.
But forced to play back in a NLE timeline with a fixed sps of 48 the first file will playback correctly. The second one will play at 2/3 of the time (32/48). The other way round the 48 sps file will play longer in a 32 sps timeline.
Now for those poor guys who have to work with NTSC:
A real world second is not a second in NTSC video world. Its 1001/1000 seconds.
So selecting a 48k sps audio preset in a timeline preset means that a real world audio of 60 seconds is only 1000/1001x60. That means that those 60 seconds are only 59.94 seconds long. Its too short.
One way - if you stay strictly in NTSC - is to record audio with 48048 Hz. This way a real world 1 second audio will match a 1 second NTSC video.
Next option with BWAVE files is to change the playback settings in the BEXT header of the file. This won't resample the file!!!
Now about the TC. BWAVE doesn't have a TC in a way you're used when handling video. It has a timestamp in the header. This timestamp contains the Samples after Midnight. Based on that the NLE will convert this to TC which can be displayed. So in NTSC world this might give a wrong interpretation.
For example if you have a "Start TC" of 00:10:00:00 (thats what you see on your audio recorder) it means that using 48kHz the timestamp is at 600x48,000 = 28,800,000 samples. Since the real sampling rate in the timeline though is 48048 Hz you have to divide the source stamp by this number. This results in 9.99000999000999 minutes. So for a 23.976 fps project this is a TC of 00:09:59:10.
So setting the Bext header and/or iXML chunk to the correct playback speed will keep everything intact. Again this is without resampling!
Using an AIFF there aren't these options.
So you can edit all the stuff without resampling when using BWAVE. But resampling will happen when you export a final movie.

  • How can I change the font size and placement of photo descriptions in an  iPhoto slide show?

With an iPhoto slide show, how do I change the font size for titles and descriptions and position the text when preparing a slide show?

to change the pixels crop to 100x100 and export with maximum dimension of 100 - see the user tip on exporting foo details on Export options - Exporting From iPhoto
As to DPI - digital photos have no DPI since DPI is Dots Per Inch and digital photos have no inches hence no DPI - when you print a photo then DPI is a mathematical calculation - dots divided by inches - it is not a setting
    Print a 480 pixel photos as a 1" square and the print it 480 DPI (480 / 1 = 480) and print the 100 pixel image as a 1" square it will be 100 DPI (100 / 1 = 100) - print a 480 pixel photo as a 4.8 inch square and it is 100 dpi (480 / 4.8 = 100) - just a calculation - not a setting

  • How do I change picture resolution from screen capture?

If I want to take the image on the screen in Encore CS5 and save it as a photoshop picture the resolution is 70 DPI.  Is there any way to change this resolution?  I would like sharper pictures if possible, 100 DPI to 200 DPI if this can be done.
    Encore CS5
    Core 4 2.4 ghz processor
    6 GB Ram
700 GB free on hard drive
    Windows 7 64 bit

I completely agree with your goal - getting as a good a resolution print as possible.  But your focus on dpi for the capture of a frame will not help you.
Kind of like scanning an image.  If you are going to blow it up later you want to scan at higher resolutions than if you don't.  There is of course image quality versus file size issues, etc. etc. but at least I would have the option to change resolutions on capture.
Scanning at a higher resolution adds more pixels.  So, for example, scanning a finely detailed 7.2 x 4.8 inch image at 300 dpi produces 2160 x 1440 pixels.  Scan a grainy photograph similarly, and it will be 2160 x 1440 and look lousy.  Use a 5 megapixel camera to shoot the original scene, you've got more pixels.  If you have only the SD video image, all you have is the 720 x 480 pixel image.  It doesn't matter how you set the dpi on capture, just that you capture all 720 x 480 pixels.
In Premier Pro CS5 and Encore CS5 the image size is 10 inches by 6.667 inches and the resolution is 72 pixels/inch.
Pulling from womble the image size is 7.2 inches by 4.8 inches and the resolution is 100 pixels/inch.
The part you are not listing is the fact that for each of those the pixel size is 720x480.  As long as you capture the 720 x 480, the resolution of the image is not improved by flagging it as 72 dpi or 100 dpi.  You can change that in photoshop for either of those captures, and you get a different print size, but no more or less pixels.
In either case, re-sizing the image in photoshop doesn't change the pixels/inch resolution.  I want to capture the original image in as good resolution as possible rather than having to correct it after capture.
"As good resolution as possible" is 720 x 480.

  • Changing DPI in Drawing

I create many things in Appleworks Drawing. However when I try to submit them to my printing company for posters or postcards, they claim they need them at 300 DPI. I believe the default setting is 72 DPI. How do I change this setting to 300 DPI?
I've tried looking everywhere and the only info I can find is pertaining to the Paint mode which I've never used, my concern is only with the Drawing mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    Rob

    Hello
A tip I used from time to time:
I create a new Draw document of 4 pages width and 4 pages height.
I coiped every object from the original doc and paste them in the new one.
Then, I enlarge them with the factor 4.1666
When this is done, I save as a TIFF or PNG file (one which is not compressed).
After that, I may open the file in any bitmap app to change the resolution parameter without any scaling.
So, if the original object was 72 pixels wide,
the enlarged one is 300 pixels wide
which give the same 1 inch object in the wanted 300 dpi resolution.
When objects are made from draw shapes it's quite easy.
When they contain text, it is not so easy because we can't adjust exactly the font size.
Paint objects must be completely redrawn to get neat reasults.
But, it is the only soluce to get the correct resolution when we try to do something with the wrong tool.
AppleWorks 6 was not designed to generate 300 dpi docs !

  • Changing DPI

How do I change the resolution of an image to 300 dpi and keep the width and heigh at 2.25x3.25?  Every time I change the size under image size it automatically adjusts, and my printers have requested to be that way. As you may tell I am not proficient in photoshops and am just trying to step by step my way through this issue.  Thank you

    Hello,
If your image already is 2.25 x 3.25 inches, just open your image, then in the top PS menu bar go Image>Image Size and in the Image Size Dialog that appears change the Resolution to 300 Pixels/Inch. (DPI is a term used incorrectly here, should be PPI - Pixels Per Inch)
Make sure "Resample" is checked in the lower left corner of that dialog window. This will allow you to change your PPI and keep the current print dimensions.
Since this process actually changes the number of pixels that make up your image, I would suggest doing it on a copy of your photo.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do i change the resolution of my screen shots that i captured from my desktop?

How do i change the resolution of my screen shots that i captured from my desktop?
    Thanks.

Do you mean you want it saved with the resolution set to something other than 72 dpi when the capture is made, or do you mean you want your capture saved at a higher resolution than the captured area?
    1) If the first, there are ways to change the default capture format .png to something else, such as .jpg, .tif and a few others, but as far as I know, the resolution will always be 72 dpi. You can use Preview to change the resolution of the captured image under Tools > Adjust Size. You will get this:
If your intention is to set the resolution for professional printing defaults, then change the resolution to 300. Turn off Resample image to prevent the image from actually having more pixels added. The resolution will simply be reset from 72 to 300 dpi without changing the actual number of pixels in the image. It will also print a lot smaller since the output device will now use 300 pixels per linear inch instead of 72.
Leave Resample image on if you need to maintain the dimensions. Be aware however that scaling the image (resampling) will add a lot more pixels to the image than are there to maintain size. Expect the image to get very soft and pixelated looking when adding 417% more data to the image than it currently has.
    2) If you mean you want the OS to actually save the captured area as a high resolution image at size, that can't happen. A capture is a 1:1 grab of the display buffer. It can only capture what's there. So if you capture a 700 pixel x 500 pixel area, that's all the bigger it can be without scaling it afterwards.

  • Changing dpi in hp photosmart 2410

I'm trying to help someone who's not exactly tech-savy scan a document on their scanner, but I'm doing it long distance and they don't know how to share their screen with me. They can scan the document, but even though they're saying they're upping the DPI, I'm only getting images at 96 DPI max from them.  They say the last scan they sent was set at 300 DPI, but it came through as only 96 DPI again. Can someone please send me a screenshot of the controls or give me a written description of how to change the DPI so I can help them? I've been told they're scanning through the computer, not via the controls on the scanner itself. I looked through the manual, but it wasn't helpful in giving a good visual or describing how to change DPI, and I can't seem to download the driver software myself without having the printer.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, and thanks for posting. I'd like to help you with the issue you are having setting a DPI while scanning. This printer is an older model, so full feature software is not available for most current Windows and Mac operating systems. Do you know which operating system your friend is running? It is unlikely that he or she is using HP Software to scan, as there really isn't any available for operating systems newer than Windows ME. If they are using Windows Fax and Scan, the window should look something like this: I hope this helps!
