As in, make an animation out of a series of jpg files? Mpeg is (mostly) a movie format.
Which version of Photoshop do you have? There's a move/animation function in CS6, not sure if it was around before that.

My pix are in a folder on the desktop. In my workflow I have "Get specified finder items", and I have the name of the folder containing the jpegs under that. The next item in the workflow is "Copy Finder Items" and in there I have the name of the folder I want the changed pix to go to. The last item in the workflow is "change type of images", and I have selected TIFF.
But when I click on "run" the jpegs in the original folder have been copied to the second folder, but they are still in jpg format.
What am I doing wrong?

Here is how to do it in Automator. Actually very simple. Drag Change Type of Image to the automator application pane. It will as if you want to add the Copy Finder Items action. Say yes. Change the destination folder as desired. Leave Replace existing files un checked. You will get the following:
Save the Automator application. You can now drag/drop files onto this automator icon and the files will be converted to tiff format and saved into your designated folder.
Edit: after re-reading you post I thing your problem is you need to creat the Automator script as an application and save the app. Then drag drop files onto the icon as stated above.

First all the data on the drive needs to be removed and the storage drive disconnected.
Then the computer booted from another boot drive (if changing the orignal boot drive)
Then head to Disk Utility and select the entire drive (makers name and size on the left) and click the Parittion Tab to change the format.
Option: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled is usally the best Mac format for the entire drive.
If you wish to change the format of just one partiton on the drive, then select that instead and just change the format, not the partition map.

How did you import from iPhoto? If you saw the Import panel with raw -jpeg pairs, then you probably did not import your iPhoto library as library, but as files, and then you will see plenty of duplicates - previews, thumbnails, originls, edited versions. If that should be the case, it would be better to delete the import from iPhoto and to import your iPhoto library again, but this time using "File > Import > Library".
Only that would require compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture. What are your Aperture and iPhoto version numbers?

After I had the document image the way I wanted it, I saved it as a web page and went from there. Below are the steps starting after I did the "save as" option in Word:
1) Select "Save As Web Page". I changed the location from documents to pictures when the window came up to save it as a web page.
2) Go to "Finder" on you main screen, or if it's on your main toolbar at the bottom.
3) Click on the "Pictures" tab and find the file you just re-saved as a web page. (I included "web page" or something similar in the new title so I could easily find the correct file I was looking for)
4) Open the correct file and then "right click" on the actual image. (Use 2 fingers to do so on a Mac)
5) Select 'Use Image As Desktop Picture", and voilà! The personally created image, or whatever it is that you wanted, is now your background.
**One problem I encountered while doing this is that the image would show up like it was right-aligned in relation to the whole screen. The only way I could figure how to fix this was to go back to the very original document in Word, (the one before it was saved as a web page), and move everything over to the left.
I hope this helps someone else who was as frustrated as I was with something that I thought would have been very simple to do! If you have any tips or suggestions of your own, please feel free to share. : )

I have photoshop on an external drive which is fine... But it is listed as the default program to open jpeg files, and I am often not connected to the external, when I'm on the go.

Yes it does list Preview as default, when the ext is not connected, but once the external is connected Photoshop takes over. I unfortunately can't do anything more about this at the moment as the External decided to stop working.
I've already posted this error on the Western Digital website, but maybe I can get feedback her as well... My 500Gb WD My Book, worked fine for months now, yesterday I started it up and it would not access it, when i went into drive utility it is not listed as a 2 Tb WD Esternal. **** it grew!?! Same thing when connected to a PC, connection established, but you cant see the drive in Explorer. Weird...?
