You may be mixing two things.
Safari does not really have a home page.
You set your home page on these pref (see pic below). In the pic below my home page is zip, zero, nada.
You set your search engine prefs via the Search option from within Safari preferences.

  • How do I change my default browser on my MBP back to Safari?

I made the mistake of changing my default browser to Google Chrome on my MBP. I have it on my Dad's Dell, only cause I updated that to Windows 7 and needed to update the browser settings on that. That change on my MBP transfered the Norton & MaFee as well.
Now it won't let me change back to Safari. I'm not thrilled with 'data sharing'and 'data mining' aspects of Chrome.
My MBP is using 10.9.1 Mavericks.

Open Safari, then go to Preferences. You can change the default browser in those settings.

  • I accidentally changed my default browser to Firefox. I need it back on IE. Now, my shortcut to IE goes to Firefox instead. So, I don't have IE to change it. How can I change my default browser back to IE through Firefox? Thanks!

Don't know what else to add. I always use Firefox. My husband refuses to. I have a shortcut for him to get to the internet, and it always came up to via IE. Now, I somehow accidentally changed the default browser to Firefox, so when using that shortcut, it takes him to the Firefox browser instead of IE. He is furious! How can I change it back?

How do I change my default browser from Safari?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
    Can't be done.

  • How do I change the default browser

Can anyone tell me how I change the default browser which is invoked when I run a web application from Jdev3.1(under NT 4.0). When I run main.jsp from the JDev interface, it invokes IE 5.5. But, I want it to invoke and the application on Netscape 4.6. I don't know if it's the NT registry, but I wanted to make sure w/the experts before I temper w/the registry settings.
    Thanks!

    Alan,
You got me started on this.
Unfortunately, IE also messed up my browser,
    HTM file descriptions (MS...HTML...)
and the HTML file icons and ...
Any how, I also want to make Netscape my default, so I searched and I found this:
    http://home.netscape.com/download/win32_instructions.html
This is as simple as it gets.

  • How do I change my default browser in apple mail to firefox

I would like to change my default browser in (Lion) Apple mail from Safari to Firefox - I don't like the small Safari screen that pops up and I'm also finding the full screen in Safari a bit of a challenge

So - 43 months - yes, FORTY-THREE MONTHS,  and this still has no answer!
We're all on Yosemite now, and still Apple Mail invokes Safari whenever you try to search on content. Safari's preferences are set to Firefox, Firefox's preferences are (of course) set to Firefox. And there is no setting in Mail to specify a preference.
Come on Apple - we thought you were way too cool to use Microsoft's dirty 'browser monopoly' tricks! Please, please let us have access to a proper browser. Please? Pretty please?
Or do I have to trash Mail and switch to Thunderbird?

  • How do I change my default browser when Safari won't open? (crashes)

I have not been able to get Safari to run, it crashes when trying to open it. I was going to change to a different default browser until I figured out a fix or had time to reinstall the OS (the solution offered by apple tech support) but the only way I know of to change the default browser is a preference inside safari - one that I can't get to. Does anyone know what file I can manually edit on my machine to change that preference setting without opening Safari? Many thanks in advance!

    Hello Dorsey
    Camino
    Omniweb
    Opera
    Shira & Firefox
I am using Shira & it is a very fast browser, however i would run permissions repair & a disk repair, first if Safari can not be opened long enough to set the default ( You set the default In Safari Preferences->> General tab-> Default Web Browser:)
Are you using IE or other browser to download the browser of your choice?
    Regards,
    Eme

  • How can I change my default browser from Safari to Internet explorer?

The problem of Safari freezing (see thread of April 24,2009) has become maddening in my case. If I open an URL received by email it opens automatically in Safari, which soon freezes. I have Explorer for Mac, can I make it my default browser and escape this trouble?

If you can get into Safari's preferences, change the default browser there. If not, use an application such as RCDefaultApp to change it; some other web browsers also provide this capability.
You may want to use a browser such as Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.

  • How I can set my default browser mozilla firefox from the command line in Windows 7?

I need to set my default browser mozilla firefox from the command line, ie without using the GUI.

'''-setDefaultBrowser''' is the correct command - you need the two capital letters.
Why Firefox 17.0.1? You would be missing a number of important security updates. Firefox 17.0.'''9''' is the current ESR release version.

  • How do I change my default browser?

I was having problems with Firefox so I started using Chrome, kept getting a keychain popup, so went back to Firefox.  Now everytime even though I'm in Firefox when I open a link it opens in Chrome.  In Chrome settings it states that its the default but there is no option to change it.
    Help?

    Kelly,
I indicated the process was "super intuitive" (with the wink, wink) because, it is, in fact, not at all intuitive.
Safari is the keeper of which web browser is the default.  The web browser you were using may allow you to change it.  And I presume that is what you did.  You changed a setting in the "advanced" segment of some preferences for whatever browser you are using.
Not all browsers have the selection to choose which browser is the default.  So I gave you the most generic solution.
Glad you were able to solve the problem
Here is another link sowing the same solution:

  • How can I change the default browser I use when keying on a field in thunderbird

Firefox uses up too much of my pc's cpu.
When I run Firefox, it typically uses 90-95 % of the cpu and the pc slows down to where other pgms (and Firefox) run extremely slow.
I would like to default to another browser when I need internet services such as Chrome

  • How can I re-download the previous version of Firefox. I have lost most of my add-ons with 4.0 including my password manager. This is a calamity and I've changed my default browser from Firefox. Help!!!

The problem is very simple. As soon as I downloaded Firefox 4.0 I lost my add-ons. The add-ons were the reason I have been using Firefox for several years. This seems to be ludicrous. The new version should be able to manage integration of existing add-ons or the Firefox team should have provided the add-on authors with advance technical information before releasing 4.0 to the world.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
