If you mean you created the iCloud account example and now want it to be called new-example you can't. Your only choice would be to create a new iCloud account. You can, however, log onto iCloud.com, select Mail, click on the gear in the upper left corner and select preferences. From there you can create an alias email account called new-example. It doesn't change your icloud account name but you can give out that email address instead of your account name.

I had thought about this, but it seems other people have already chosen the screen name "pinksharkmark" and virtually every variation of it I can think of. So that isn't an option for me. As for getting it to display something else as well, do you mean that if I were to get an AIM screen name like "CromulentCat" I could somehow log in to iChat under the AIM account "CromulentCat" yet get iChat to represent me to my Buddies as "PinkSharkMark"? Because I have to admit I don't see how that can be done. It appears as if iChat displays to anyone chatting with you precisely the account name you logged in under and nothing else. So if you logged in using a .Mac account, then you are displayed as "[email protected]" while if you logged in under an AIM account, you are displayed as "CromulentCat". But that's it that's all... there is no way to change CromulentCat to PinkSharkMark.

Thanks for replying again. I've got a little bit further thanks to you. I tried the US keyboard layout as you seemed pretty definte that it should work. This time I applied the setting and also started the language toolbar and selected it from there.
Hey presto, I've got the @ where it should be. Excellent.
However the single quote ' works in a weird way. When I press it, it doesn't show up on the screen. But when I press another key, I get the single quote plus the next key I press. When I press the single quote twice, I get 2 of them. This is also the same with the SHIFT ' key. i.e. for the double quotes.
Very strange. I'll look at other keyboards and see where that gets me.

OK, thanks for the updated information. Please change your profile when you can.
If you change the network name, keep in mind that any device that connects now will need to connect again to your "new" network.
On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the upper right corner of the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the screen
Edit/backspace out the current wireless network name and then type in the name that you want to use
A few hints....avoid using blank spaces, and also avoid using any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc. Keep the name short....no more than 20 characters, fewer would be better and simpler to manage.
Click Update at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart with the new settings. You are all set now.

I believe no edit capability for changing screen name has ever been provided. That would just lead to confusion, once you already have a posting history. Think about it.

When I try to access Terminal, and enter a sudo command, it asks for my password. It has the name wrong of my computer, and then won't accept my password. I can hit enter 3 times and it brings right back to my starting point. How do I change the name of my computer and allow it to accept my password?

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why the password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. You can select one of the available layouts by choosing from the flag menu in the upper right corner, if it's showing, or cycle through them by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. I used to have an Apple Wireless mouse which I named as "my full name". I then upgraded to the Mighty Mouse and went into the Bluetooth preferences to change the Mouses name to "My first name only" It works for a few days but then my old name keeps appearing when I click on the Bluetooth symbol in the top right corner of the desktop bar.
I cannot figure out how to permanently change the name without it changing back anywhere from a day later to a week later. It's strange.
Any suggestions?

Yes. Select one or more tracks (use ctrl or shift clicks to add/remove or extend a selection) then right-click or press CTRL-I to Get Info. Use the different tabs of the dialog to make changes.

Let me give more details..We have 3 iPods and 2 iPhone4....I recently purchased the iPhone4 and when we connected it..It was already reading my wife's iPhone4..We went to the Apple Store at the Grove today and was told to de-authorize the system and connect my iPhone4 back and I should be able to change the name.
Nothing happened..Right now, I clicked on RESTORE settings...and it is uploading a new iPhone update.

If you are trying to change the iCloud ID to another ID, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, then sign back in with the ID you want to use.
If you are trying to change the name of your existing iCloud ID and not trying to change to a different ID, you can change the name of the ID as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621. After doing so, you'll need to sign out of the exising ID, then sign back in using the changed ID.
