How do I change the Apple ID that iCloud uses to sync the iPad?

How do I change an iPad's iCloud Apple ID without deleting that entire iCloud account? When I go to Settings>iCloud on this iPad, the Apple ID email address is not an active field, so I cannot enter the new Apple ID. The iPad is currently syncing successfully using iCloud--but to my husband's account/data. I want to enter the Apple ID that my Mac uses to sync with my Mac. I see "Delete Account" below in the iPad Settings>iCloud, but I don't know what "delete" means here.

Cancel my question, please. I found the answer: delete the account, enter the new Apple ID and save data to device and merge data, and create a new account.

Is it possible that you or someone who knows your iCloud sign on went into the Find My iPhone app and erased your device via iCloud? Because that is what that message is saying.
Have you tried to sign on with your Apple ID and password?
Was it online prior to this incident happening?

Yes. All of the phones that use the same ID for iCloud will be sharing the same iCloud account. Any data synced with the shared account will be merged and will appear on all devices. Also, any actions taken on synced data (such as deleting contacts or adding calendar events) will be replicated on all devices sharing the account.
To keep your data separate, everyone should use a separate iCloud account with a separate ID on their devices. You can continue to share the same ID for iTuens; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

You may be able to recover your Apple ID at https://iforgot.apple.com.
You're going to have to remember the Apple ID. If you can't, the only option you have is to take the phone along with the original proof of purchase to Apple and see if they can help you. They have been known to do so, but ONLY for the original purchaser of the phone with a valid proof of purchase.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, and running iOS 7.0, then phone cannot be activated or the passcode removed without knowing your Apple iD/Password. It will be nothing but a useless paperweight.
If not running iOS 7.0, the phone can be forced into recovery mode & restored.

This is a guess, but did you try using the iCloud panel of System Preferences to log out of your old account and into your new one?

I was able to change my Apple ID on all apps except iCloud. I don't have the original email account I used when setting up my iPhone with the old Apple ID and I have no clue what the password was. It appears I first need to turn off "Find my iPhone" which requires the old Apple ID, then I can delete the iCloud account. You never mentioned that you didn't have access to that email. There are some specific steps you can perform to retrieve the old Apple ID password.

So the question is, what device are you changing it on? Before doing anything, backup all devices, save all photos somewhere on a hard drive and export your contacts and calendar just in case. I am a real beginner here, but I have been dealing with this issue for two weeks so I think I am getting a handle on it. Hopefully someone can give even better advice.
iCloud.com is a slave to whatever account you have setup on your IOS device, so it doesn't care what you sign in as. There is nothing to "change" there, just sign in as whatever Apple ID you have setup on your devices.
I would start on the Macbook. Go under preferences, iCloud, and then sign out of your iCloud account. Sign back in, but enter the new Apple ID that you want to use. This will delete the old account, but give you the option of keeping everything you have in iCloud on your computer. Turn everything on that you want to sync, and you will be back up with iCloud connected to a new AppleID. iCloud.com will now mirror your MacBook.
On the iPhone, go under Settings, and then iCloud, and delete the existing account. You will loose whatever is in the Cloud from your phone, but they should already be back in the cloud from your MacBook fromthe above step, so no worried. Setup a new iCloud account with the Apple ID you used above, and enable the things you want to sync. Everything should be back now and you have the new AppleID associated with your iCloud.
The iPad is the same as the iPhone, delete the old and establish a new iCloud account with the AppleID you used above. You will loose anything that is in the cloud from the iPad but it should repopulate once the new Apple ID is established.

Try using these steps to stop Lost Mode from iCloud.com:
Stop Lost Mode or change your contact info
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud).If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode.
Click Lost Mode, then change the information or click Stop Lost Mode.

Use that iD to sign and use the iPod.
You can go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and change the ID for purchases. The ID is also used in Settings>FaceTime, Setting>iCloud, Settings>Messages>Send abd receive and Settings>Game Center and can ne changed in those locations.

You will need to remember or find the id that you used, without it you won't be able to re-activate your phone - if you are on the activation screen then does that show the first letter of the id and the email provider's name ?
Do you know if you have any of the account's downloads in computer's iTunes library - if you do then you can get the id form that : Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name.
If not then see if you can find it via http://appleid.apple.com : Apple ID: How to find your Apple ID.

You have to delete the account: Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Try changing your ID, online, back to your old ID, then delete the iCloud account on your phone. Once done, change your ID back to the new one you want to use.
