How do I change the highlight in Preview "search" function?
I find Preview is a great app for reading PDF documents, I prefer it to Adobe Acrobat most of the time. It also has a useful and fast Search, but .... the highlighting of found Search items in the document is USELESS!!! It is pale grey, which - when most documents are black text on white background, and with a lot of text crammed on a page - is almost impossible to see!
I have tried Preview Preferences. I have tried System Preferences (but Preview, sadly, doesn't use SysPrefs highlight colour). How can I change the Preview highlight colour so that Search becomes a useful function instead of causing me eyestrain?
Thank you for the quick reply, however, if I understand correctly your link is helpful for Character Fill Color, not highlights.

In Pages when I go to FIND how can I change the highlight colour of the found word? At the moment it is a very pale grey and not easily seen.
Well, it might depend on the nationality of your keyboard, but on my US keyboard, the tilde ("squiggle") is above the TAB key; on a Mac, ⌘-TAB cycles through the active applications and ⌘-tilde cycles through the windows in the front application.
When you do a Find, Pages selects an instance of your search text (the next one after the current selection, I think, but I didn't check that). It doesn't make the document window the front window, though. If you click in the window to bring it to the front, it moves the selection (or insertion point) to wherever you click unless you click on or above the ruler. Try clicking at the top of the document window after you do a find; say somewhere near the document name. Now you should see the highlighted selection (your search text). If you click back on the Find window, the selection will go grey again, unless you hold ⌘ down while clicking. -
How do I change the highlight in the latest version of Pages?
It looks like in Pages (I am currently using version 5.2) I can choose Insert > Highlight. This is great, however, how do I change the highlight color? It seems like yellow is the only option. I'm sure there is a simple and intuitive method that I am missing. Thanks for any help!

How can I change the highlight color of grid view folders in the dock?
Using OSX 10.10 Yosemite, the highlight color for a folder in Grid view is barely noticeable.
Can you spot the highlighted icon below?
I've grown accustom to clicking the applications folder in the doc then typing a few letters to get me close to the app I want- now it takes an extra few seconds for me to visually find the icon that got highlighted.
Is there a way to change the highlight color here?I would open up the grid spacing slightly so everything does not run together. In System Preferences > General, try setting Highlight color: Red. This won't change the grey selection background around the icon, but it will turn the background behind the icon text to red. That stands out. However, the collateral effect is that text you select in this editor, and other OS X applications, will now have a red background too. Changing colors will require a killall Finder in the Terminal. Actually set mine to #ffff00 which is a vivid yellow, which is more practical when selecting text in a document.

How do I change the highlight color?
When I'm working on my document in Pages, I often do a Search (command-F) to quickly find a word or phrase that appears somewhere else in the document. It works great, but it highlights the word/phrase in light gray, which I have trouble seeing. Is there a way to change the highlight color to yellow, or any other color, making the word/phrase easier to see?
You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

How do I change the highlight color of my PDF file?
On my PDF files, I'm able to highlight text, but cannot figure out how to change the color of the highlight. I've got Adobe Reader, and also paid to upgrade - but honestly, I'm not sure which program I have. This is the most confusing application I've ever used!
Hey,
You are most welcome
Yes, you can change existing highlight color also.
For this, go to 'Comment List' on the right hand side and select any one comment.
Now, press 'cmd+A' to select all the comments in the list and then 'control click' to choose 'Properties' from the pop down.
Choose highlight color as desired from 'Highlight Properties' dialog box.
Please check and let me know.

When I'm looking at a search engine results page, I would like the colors of visited results to be a color that is much more different than they are now. Like blue v.s. black or blue v.s. yellow.
You can use the NoSquint extension to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages, including the visit color.

Can I change the highlight colour from grey?
Can I change the highlight colour when searching for words in a Pages? I find the grey is hard to see. Thanks, Mike
Mike,
As Fruhulda noted, this is a System behavior (and a source of irritation and questions since the beginning of—OS X—time). It's part of the System's way of showing which is the active window, and extends to other System set colours as well. The most noticeable (if that's the proper term for these inconspicuous non-colours) is the greying of the thumbs in the scroll bars.
Do Provide Feedback. But make it OS X feedback instead of (or as well as) Pages Feedback.

Barry
