How do I change the line spacing in DW CS5?

My problem seemed so simple to start with. All I want to do is create a single line space in DW. When I press "Enter" at the end of a sentence I want DW to go the the next line and not start a new paragraph. I just want one line space not a double paragraph space. Is there any way to change this default spacing? I have searched all over DW Help and the forums but can't find an answer anywhere.

Thanks. That seems to work. I was trying to write a paragraph of text and then putting a hyperlink on the next line that said "Read More Here" but the hyperlink was ending up too far away from the text is was relating to. So your advice has worked.

Adjust line spacing
You can adjust the spacing between lines in a paragraph, and change the amount of space before or after a paragraph.
Click in the paragraph whose spacing you want to change, or select one or more paragraphs.
In the Text pane of the Format inspector, click Style.
Click the disclosure triangle next to Spacing, then choose an option from the pop-up menu:
Lines: Choose when the distance between ascenders (parts of letters that extend to the top of the line) and descenders (parts of letters that extend below the line) should stay the same. The space between lines is proportional to the font size.

Whenever I try to shift+direct select it thinks I want to move the line, so as I shift + direct select and drag my mouse across the line (to highlight it all) it moves a chunk of the line and turns it into a near perpendicular line.
I found the appearance window, it just says "Path" (the color I want it to be that it's not)
"Stroke" 4pt
"Fill" (the color I want it to be that it's not)
"Opacity": Default
And some other buttons. I think I'll try the help line tomorrow, I know I saw a customer service number somewhere and I'm only here because the chat was unavailable. This is only one of my 3 problems with my assignment so I'll search here for answers to the other two. Learning new things is rarely fun.

How can I control the line spacing in TLF

Hello,
Is it possible to control the line spacing in TLF?
For example I might have text lines with font size of 12 (i.e. constant text height) but I would like to be able to change the space between the lines programatically.
Playing with the lineHeight property is not the best approach because in case there are images embedded in the text once lineHeight is set then the image is cut if it is higher than the line height. I really need to control the space between lines but not the lines' height.

I would like to achieve the following behavior: the gap between all text lines to be always X pixels.
My understanding how TLF handles this (please correct me if I am wrong) is that there is no gap between TextLines but one could achieve similar behavior by playing with lineHeigh. You could set it to a percentage and then this would introduce visual gap between text lines however in cases when a text line contains elements with different height (like the case with images or spans with different fontSize) then the gap will differ because it is calculated as a percentage of the overall fontSize. I don't want to have different gaps in these cases. I would like to have always (let's say) 10 pixels between each text line.
What I need is very similar to the "verticalGap" style available in the VBox container. I would like to specify the exact gap between each text line in exactly the same way.
Using "lineHeight" is not good because it depends on the height of the text/images and this leads to different gaps when I have mixture of elements with different heights. The way I set the gap should not be dependent on the height of the elements.

I used Illustrator to create a line graph. (Not my desired option as I normally import them from R and then edit, but the textbook wanted to show that you can create graphs and edit them in Illustrator)
Anyway, I did all of the editing except that I can't change the color of the line. How do I correct the line spacing for last line of a paragraph?

I am using a paragraph style with a GREP setting all tect to a specific character style (Arial 9 pt with 12 pt leading.)
The last line had a larger spacing. Reading the forums I found that the end of paragraph character (EOP) had the wrong font size and checking it I found it was set to 12 pt with auto leading. Somehow in playing with the text I got the EOP to match the 9/11 setting, but still have the space.
So I closed the file and changed the default text to be arial 6 pt so that the paragraph character would no longer dictate the line space. This has no affect.
I reset the paragraph as basic paragraph and it sets it to a font Minion Pro @12 pt. I though t I had changed the default, but nothing changed????.
I am also a bit confused as to why changing a paragraph style does not change the EOP as well. Is there a setting to make it behave the same?

Is this a problem with the GREP statement? It currently uses the period character to select everything.

Have you tried simply placing your cursor in the problematic paragraph and click on "clear overrides"? If it works for one paragraph, select them all and do that.
However, what is the underlying paragraph style? Have you tried changing the leading in the paragraph style definition.
It sounds a little like what's happening is that your grep style is applying a charater style to all character but not the EOP marker, which is taking it's leading from the underlying paragraph style.
Also, why are you using a GREP stye to apply a character style to everything in the paragraph. It would make more sense to define those attributes withing the paragraph style itself.

How do you set the line spacing when using the Append Text Table to Report VI?

I have a table of numbers which I wish to print using the report generation VI's. Since each column has a different numerical format, I first convert the number for each cell to a string with the appropriate format and then build a string array to pass to the Append Text Table to Report VI. The table is printed with double line spacing. How do I reset this for single spacing?

The issue is not with the NI-Reports functionality, but the Array to Spreadsheet String funvtion in the for loop. Here is the context help for this function:
"Converts an array of any dimension to a table in string form, containing tabs separating column elements, a platform-dependent EOL character separating rows, and, for arrays of three or more dimensions, headers separating pages."
The thing to note here is that it says it adds an EOL (end of line) character at the end of every row. This is what is happening. Your first column of data has a \r\n in it and adds the second row to each data item. This in turn makes the rest of the columns have a larege blank space at the bottom so that all of the cell heights are equal. I w
ould re-write that little bit of code so that you just do one large string concatenation of number, spaces, number, spaces, number and this should solve your issue.

Being experienced in writing technical documents, I would like to know if there is any way I can setup paragraph styles with a specific spacing before and/or after paragraphs in Pages for iOS. You can do this in the normal Pages for Mac OS. Setting line spacing in Pages for iOS is not a very accurate way of formatting a document so that it looks good on a page.

I have realised this, but this is a long winded way of doing things and inconvenient if you want to create a new document using an iPad. To me paragraph spacing is one of the essentials when creating documents. It makes a document more readable and look more professional. For Apple to miss this out of iOS Pages is a huge error. Pages should be similar across all platforms where you can use Pages which will greatly overall compatibility, especially if you are exporting to other formats.

How do you change the default font in Illustrator CS5?

I have upgraded my Illustrator to CS5 and my default font has changed to a strange font. In Photoshop and InDesign, I was told that all you have to do is change the font in the Character menu to the font that you wish to be set as "default" and it will be the font that you always start with.
NOTE: Does this mean that if I use a different font in a different document, the font will stay that font unless I change it back? Isn't there a way to make a particular font the font that I would always what I start with? All this setup means, is that the "default font" will always be whatever the last font that was being used was. There has to be a way to make a default font that I will always start with no matter what the last font that was being used was.
Illustrator gives you no option on font type, unless a file is open. Then, if you change the font and close the file, next time you start a file, it will go back to what is was to begin with. There has to be a way to change the default font for all of these programs to where the font always stays the same unless you change it. Mine is just set to use a weird font that I would probably never use.
I just never thought it would be that big of a deal to change default settings for the font.

Okay, I basically made three different documents and I made sure that I had everything chosen in each. I then saved the three to that file and they now appear in the list:
Settings for all 3:
72psi, 150psi and 300psi
Rulers Visable
Times New Roman
12pt
14.4pt
I then went in and started three new documents. I used the three different New Document Profile's that I made and they all had Rulers, their sizes were correct, but the font stayed Myriad Pro. Did I miss anything? And, Yes, I did change the font and the setting before I saved them in the New Document Profile.
One other thing, I did create a file in the folder, but it was spelled incorrectly. I then went into the folder, erased it and made a second. Then, I went to open it in IllustratorCS5 and it was still listed. I went to the file and it wasn't there anymore, but it was still listed in the New Document Profile. Is there a way to get it off of the list or is all I have to do is restart Illustrator?

Leading is the spacing between lines. In the Print module, when you scroll to the Type feature, make sure you have the extended the Type arrow (shown below), as well as the character menu (also shown below).
When you have that extended, you will see the leading slider, as well as auto leading button. please adjust those as you wish.

In the Format panel under the Text Style tab, there is a ▸ Spacing category. Click it to open, and you will have a selector that defaults to Lines, and to the right, the ability to set your spacing in decimal values. In addition to Lines, you also have At Least, Exactly, and Between capability. You can even set exact line height in points. Check that your Before Paragraph, and After Paragraph settings are correct for your needs.
