How do I change the picture or colors in the top bar on the screen. It is where the file, edit, view, etc commands are written. It is to dark and I would like to customize it to something lighter.

The easiest way might be to install a lightweight theme (formerly known as a persona). You can "shop" for one on the Add-ons site. The following link is for solid colors, but some of the pictorial ones might work, too.

You can hover your mouse over the little image tile to see how it would look if you installed it. Can you find one that looks good to you?
Much of Firefox's interface also can be modified with style rules. However, that requires a lot more experimentation, so let's come back to that only if needed.

Find out from your son how he did it and roll it back. Without some plist manual editing or via other 3rd party tools, that graphic cannot be changed. Your easy path for fixing this is to simply ask your son in a non-confrontational way... and you will even learn something he knows and you do not. I know there's some tools out there that can do this, but I haven't done the legwork to dig them up, much less a trustworthy one. Chances are good he read something on how to hack that on the system and made the change. All you have to do is gain access to that same knowledge and presto, problem solved.
No, him saying "I don't know how it happened" is NOT an acceptable answer. He'd only give you that answer if he has a reason to be scared of you or any ramifications if he fesses up. Not trying to tell you how to parent, but if you can get that fear out of his mind, he'll tell you what he did and whatnot. Hey, maybe approach it from the standpoing of... "Hey, that's cool, didn't know it could be done even if it's hacked like that, it would be nice to change it back or put another picture on there, etc." That should defuse his fear... Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

To change the size of only the Picture you can use the Draw Area Size like you already have. However if you want to move the other controls around the picture, you may need to use their Position Properties.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Damaged preference files can cause a varitety of problems which you wouldn't think it could. Deleting and regenerating the pref file is one of the basic fixes to try.

As long as you have a form of payment (credit or debit card) with a USA source, and with a billing address in the USA, then you just need to change your payment information on your account to that, change your country in the store settings, and you will then be able to shop in the USA store.
Your AppleID will work in any country's store, as long as your payment source and billing addres are also specific to that country (and you are in that country as well, as there may be IP filters in place to stop use outside of the country).

Page Setup, including page orientation, is done in the File menu. The setting applies to the whole document. As Peter says, you can rotate the contents of a page (not including the text layer of a word processing document).
As an alternative, you could use Numbers, where Sheets are empty canvases onto which you may place images, charts, tables and text boxes, and where page orientation may be set for individual Sheets. The main tradeoff is that you lose many of the built-in word processing and page layout features of Pages.

The only cable I can find with lightning and usb is the apple camera adaptor but it is £25 from Apple which is a bit expensive if it will not work. Some peoples reviews seem to say this will not work, I can not use the camera reader by Apple as this only takes SD cards and my camera takes XD and compact flash cards. I have realised that you cannot use this cable on a card reader which is a shame and means taking more cables on holiday with you and more likely to get lost. This is so frustrating as one of the reasons of buying the iPad was to use, to transport photos whilst away instead of having lots of cards which do get lost and damaged. I hope someone can help as there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what works in cases like this.

I updated the phone before backing it up on iTunes, now the update wanted me to connect the phone with iTunes and it says the phones in recovery mode and it must be restored before its used with iTunes. I go to click restore and it says it will reset it to factory default and I'll lose all my current data. I have all my sons pictures and videos along with this notes. I can't lose all of this data! You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

I would like to transefer some pictures from the Mac to the Iphone. How do i do this without losing all the pictures on the iphone through Synching?

The options in itunes seem quite limited. For instance, I have culled the pictures on the iphone down to a nice 250 or so pics i dont want to lose. But when I try to add another selected folder through itunes it wants to erase all the pictures on the iphone I have. I could create a folder out of all the pic i have on it now and then select that as well when Synching but that means any new pictures i like in the future won't be saved either if i wish to add more from the compuiter through synching.
How do i add a folder of pictures from itunes without affecting the pictures on the camera roll. This doesnt seem to be an issue when adding music manually to an ipod for instance. Wheres the openness of the system to hand-pick and create your own scenario?

Some possibilities:
iPhoto Sharing:
IEnable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machines for this to work.
Use iPhoto Library Manager
Export from one Library and copy to the other mchine and import there
