How do I change the thumbnail on the DVD before finalization?

I am dubbing VHS tapes to DVD on the DVR620KU model.
The playlist thumbnail is often just snow, since it seems to default to the first image on the VHS recording, which is often blank. How do I create or edit this thumbnail image? Thank you.

You can't change the image. It really doesn't matter anyway, since once you finalize, that image is no longer seen. You get a title bar instead.
Note that the image is actually a miniature video. If you have multiple thumbnails, only the highlighted thumbnail has the video playing, and the rest of the thumbnails have the still image that you've noticed.

(I think the thumbnails might be available on finalized discs for DVD-RW and/or DVD+RW, but in any case you can't change the image).

Select the paragraphs where you want to change the spacing.
Format Panel > Text > Spacing
You can change 1.0 - Single to something else, or type a number in Before or After.

Not in Premiere Elements.
You'll need to use Premiere Elements to burn the DVD files to a folder, and then use a program like the excellent, free ImgBurn to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a disc at a slower speed.

Once the allowed number of region changes has been reached you will need to flash the firmware in your DVD player in order to reset the region count. You can try to Google for the required update for your make/model of DVD ROM or you can check with a Toshiba Service Agent to see if they can arrange this for you.

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself. I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

How do I change the thumbnail preview picture? I've got a 3d model and I want a particular view to be the thumbnail picture as well as the default view. I believe I've done that before but cannot figure out how I did it.

To change the ID:
For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (Receive At in iOS 5), tap the ID sign out, sign back in using the other ID.
For FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>Facetime.
For Purchasing, do this in Settings>iTunes & App Stores (Settings>Store in iOS 5).
For iCloud, you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them. To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPod. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.

I have created a shape using the rectangle tool. I have then selected a section of this using the Marquee Tool (I get the running ants) but how do I change the color of the selection? I have been following a few tutorials where they say press Control-U or select Fill from the Edit menu but it is grayed out.

Here's but one way to change the color of just a specific portion:
1. Make your selection
2. Go to the bottom of the layers panel, click on the Create New Fill or Adjustment layer icon and then click on Solid Color
That puts a new color fill adjustment layer above the shape using a layer mask from your selection.
If you want to change the color, double click on the color fill thumbnail icon in the layers panel.
(in the example below you would double click on the green icon in the layer panel)

One of the things I've found with OS X (at least with Snow Leopard, which is my first excursion into OS X), is that all too often the thumbnail displayed on a file, whether a file created or one downloaded, is a false thumbnail. That is, when you do a Get Info on the file the icon in the upper left is the generic icon for that file type, rather than the thumbnail displayed in Finder. Makes it a bit difficult to copy.
Apparently Finder uses Preview in the background to generate the displayed thumbnail without actually creating one.
What I've resorted to doing, particularly with graphic images, is to process them with GraphicConverter - I have its prefs set to automatially add thumbnails and previews. With an individual file this means opening it in GC and doing a Save As. However, a much easier and faster way is when there are two or more such files; I put them in a common folder and drop the folder onto GC. GC then opens them in a catalog view, in the process adding real thumbnails and previews to each automatically. Doesn't take long to do several hundred files that way.

If you simply renamed your ID, you can go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account. This will delete the account from your phone (but not from iCloud) as well as any synced data. But provided you are signing back into the same account (just with a new name) it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in. Then set up your iCloud account with the new ID name and turn syncing back on. If you have photos in your photo stream album that are older than 30 days that you don't have anywhere else, you will need to save these to your camera roll before deleting the account. To do this, open your photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If, however, you are changing to a new ID you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account. To do this, first go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. You can't change the display in the Mail app, if you are holding the iPad in landscape orientation then the left-hand third will be for navigation, and the right-hand two-thirds will be an email. If you hold the iPad in portrait orientation then the navigation section becomes a drop-down section.
