How do i charge my usa i touch in uk if i do not have PC?

Question

I am travelling to the UK and will not have access to a computer , using a regular adapter can I plug the i touch directly into UK electric socket or will this damage the unit due to voltage difference

If it's an Apple brand, then (it should state on it that) it can accept 110-220 volts. In other words, it will work correctly in the UK (where we use 220 volts).
If it is not an Apple brand, check what its label says. If it can only accept 110 volts, it is not suitable for use in the UK or anywhere in Europe, where the wall socket is 220 volts.
However, our (UK) wall sockets look like this;
so you will need a "Travel Adapter". You plug your charger into the adapter and the then the adapter plugs into the UK socket. You may be able to buy one from somewhere such as Radio Shack.
Note that if you also intend to travel elsewhere in Europe, the UK is the only European country with this type of power socket.
I suspect that the "charger box" you mention for a laptop cable, is actually the transformer. (It transforms the 110 volts from the wall socket to the exact voltage the laptop requires). The USB adapter (my first picture) has a small transformer built into it.
