How do I check blown highlights?

How can I get clipping indicators (highlight & shadow) on my video itself (like the way Adobe Camera Raw or Adobe Lightroom does it) and histograms of either frames or scenes? Simply adjusting level sliders without knowing if you have clipping going on makes no sense...

Blown highlights on export, how do I adjust clipping in LR to avoid

I found the thread that explained WHY the highlight were showing in range in LR2 and blown in Cs2. It a matter of LR using a larger color space, profoto rgb and CS using srgb color. I get that. BUT I don't want to deal with changing color space at the end of my processing....

There is no possibility to change colorspace in LR.
And strictly speaking, there is also no possibility to set the colorspace to sRGB in CS2.
What you can do in CS2 is
a) embed the sRGB profile into the image
b) softproof the image for sRGB.
As for blown highlights, you can do the following in LR:
a) increase the recovery slider to a value of at least 40 - I sometimes go up to 80 or 90;
b) reduce Brightness and/or Exposure
c) apply a curve that avoids blown-out highlights and blocked-up shadows.
The last one is my favourite option that I use almost on every image, and it goes thus:
In the Tone Curve panel, click on the small curve-icon below the sliders so that the sliders disappear.
You then can grab the ends of the curve and drag them vertically down (highlights) or up (shadows).
I set my endpoints to about 5% for shadows and 95% for highlights. That corresponds to a blackpoint of about 13/13/13 and to a white point of about 242/242/242 in PS. You can leave the curve linear or give it a bit of a S-shape for increased contrast in the middle-tones.
Save your new curve as a preset. When you now open this photo in CS2 - as a copy with LR Adjustments applied - you will notice that CS2 displays it accordingly. If you open the image as "Original" the LR-curve will not be applied, and you rimage in CS2 will look unchanged.

PS: My above remarks about colorspace in CS2 my be misleading. What I meant to say that PS displays images in the profile that you created for your monitor with your calibration software - no matter what colorspace is embedded in the image.
But you can softproof and PS will emulate the embedded colorspace on display.

How do I "check" multiple songs at same time?

I'm trying to backup my itunes library to DVD, but itunes will only burn songs from a playlist if the box is checked. I have 900+ songs that are unchecked that I need to backup. I realize I can just re-import them from the original CD, but then I will also have to rate the songs all over again.

Highlight all the songs that you want, you could hit command+A to select them all.
Then right click, or control+click and choose "Check Selections"

You have to go to each app that you want to select and select the app. There is no option to highlight/select multiple apps at once to check the highlighted/selected apps to be checked for transfer to your iPhone. By the time you go though and select each app followed by making another selection to check each app, you would already have each app checked.

Well, it might depend on the nationality of your keyboard, but on my US keyboard, the tilde ("squiggle") is above the TAB key; on a Mac, ⌘-TAB cycles through the active applications and ⌘-tilde cycles through the windows in the front application.
When you do a Find, Pages selects an instance of your search text (the next one after the current selection, I think, but I didn't check that). It doesn't make the document window the front window, though. If you click in the window to bring it to the front, it moves the selection (or insertion point) to wherever you click unless you click on or above the ruler. Try clicking at the top of the document window after you do a find; say somewhere near the document name. Now you should see the highlighted selection (your search text). If you click back on the Find window, the selection will go grey again, unless you hold ⌘ down while clicking.

How to generate check from Payment Run

How to generate check, if by mistake we forgot to check mark "Create payment medium" in payment run. Because the payment goes through but there is no check, Is there a transaction that can create a check from that payment run?

(1) First find out the check numbers from check register (FCHN)
(2) Go to your payment medium, highlight the variant and click on Maintain Variant.
(3) At the bottom of Maintain Variant is a feature for you to reprint checks. Key in the check numbers you get from (1)

New HDR user - blown highlights

Hi,
I am just starting to experiment with HDR. I am using a Nikon D200 and Photoshop CS3. I am shooting 1 stop plus/minus and merging to HDR. It seems that the highlights are always getting blown out much more than the middle image. The shadows are brought up fairly well, but the entire upper end of the curve seems blown out with loss of contrast. I have been experimenting with different methods during the 32 to 16 bit conversion to correct it but have not been so pleased with the results. I can get the highlights back down, but the upper end is fairly washed out with loss of contrast. It seems like the middle part of the curve is also pushed up a bit which would account for the loss of upper end contrast.
I have looked at several tutorials on the net. They don't seem to address this specific situation and how to correct it. Also, the screen shots right after the HDR merge sure look alot better than mine, and don't seem to be blown out at the upper end.
Any help, pointers, links, etc would be so very much appreciated.

Using PS takes a fair amount of practice using curves (to precisely isolate blown highlights). Another method is to blend the adjustments in with a layer/mask to target the worst areas.
Having said that, getting the right range of exposures to begin with is probably the most critical part of the process. Use the camera's histogram to make sure you're getting a nice spread.
And...there is a fair amount of discussion about this (and other) hdr issue(s) available on the net. Try the Flickr hdr group for one good source.

How do i check to see if an etb for a HP LJ 4700n is new or used?

I have 4 transfer belts in boxes that have been opened and read that if put in will blow a fuse and not reset maintenance message when needed. If this is true how can I check if the fuses are good or blown?

For now you can enable scroll bars so that they are always visible, and thus able to grabbed using your pen. Check this under System Preferences > Personal > General > Show Scroll Bars > Always.
The default setting is "Automatically based on Input Device" which makes me think that perhaps Wacom needs to do something in order for OS X Lion to recognize that if you are using a pen, the scrollbars will appear automatically. That's my hope at least!

Here's another thought.
Navigate to HD > Users > Library > Safari: Make a duplicate of History.plist.
To duplicate the file, click once to highlight it. Press the Command + D keys.
Drag the History,plist copy file to the Desktop.
Highlight it. Press the Command + I keys, to get info.
Change Open With to TextEdit.
When you open the file in TextEdit, it will be difficult to read, but you will be able to pick out some sites.

How does APEX check for null values in Text Fields on the forms? This might sound trivial but I have a problem with a PL/SQL Validation that I have written.
I have one select list (P108_CLUSTER_ID) and one Text field (P108_PRIVATE_IP). I made P108_CLUSTER_ID to return null value when nothing is selected and assumed P108_PRIVATE_IP to return null value too when nothign is entered in the text field.
All that I need is to validate if P108_PRIVATE_IP is entered when a P108_CLUSTER_ID is selected. i.e it is mandatory to enter Private IP when a cluster is seelcted and following is my Pl/SQL code

My problem is it is returning FALSE for all the cases.It works fine in SQL Command though..When I tried to Debug and use Firebug, I found that Text fields are not stored a null by default but as empty strings "" . Now I tried modifying my PL/SQL to check Private_IP against an empty string. But doesn't help. Can someone please tell me how I need to proceed.

How can I check on the Edge network status?
I suddenly can't connect to the Apple mail server to send/check email and can't view anything on the Web, but the 'E' still shows up that the network is there.
Is there a place to check on the Edge network status?
I couldn't find anything but a coverage map that doesn't tell you anything except what areas are covered for voice or data coverage (but not current status).

I'm not aware of any status sites that give the status of a particular tower. Sometimes, putting the phone in airplane mode for a minute will correct the issue.

3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?

If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins. If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets. You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery. You can check battery health using System Profiler... look at the Power section under Hardware.

You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs. Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac. Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.

If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011. As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it. If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement. That just leaves the battery... and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.
