Alternatively, choose Computer from the Go menu, control-click the drive, and choose Get Info.

  • How do I find out how much space I have left on my macbook pro? I downloaded the new mavericks operating system and can't figure it out. Before the space would be at the bottom of my finder.

I downloaded the new mavericks operating system on my macbook pro and I can't find out how much space I have left. Before the installation of mavericks, storage space left was displayed at the bottom of the Finder window.

In the Finder, under the View menu there is an option to Show Status Bar.  Select that and you will see the info on the bottom of folders again.

  • Where do i find out how much space i have available on my computer

I have a macbook pro and was wondering how to find out how much space I have available.  I need to download pictures off my external drive to format it.

Many possibility. If you want to see, how the disk space is used, click the -menu and select "About this Mac".
In the "About" panel click "More Info".
Then you can explore your Mac. Click the "Storage" tab.
It will show you, how the disk space is used for photos, apps, etc. for all connected drives.
This screenshot is for MacOs X 10.9.4.

  • What is "other" known for in how much space you have left?

What is "other" known for in the bar at the bottom where it shows how much space you have left?

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • How do find out how much space I have in iCloud? How do I see what I have there? How do I see how much a pay for it?

It is probably easy but ...
    (1) If I want to see my account, how much do I pay each year, how much space do I have for storage what link do I use ... everything goes to support and explanations ...
    (2) How do I access iCloud Storage? What if I need more?
    (3) What is the difference between iWork and iCloud
    (4) I am worry about security with everything moving to iCloud ...
How can I control the security of my contacts, back up space, etc.

Go to System Preferences>iCloud - there is an indicator at the bottom of the pane showing how much of your storage you are using.
The basic account of 5GB is free. Additional storage for Backup, Documents etc: additional 10GB, $20 p.a., 20 GB, $40 p.a., 50GB $100 p.a. (note that this is not iDisk-type storage for any type of file).
iWork is a set of three programs available in Mac and iOS versions - Pages, Numbers and Keynote. iwork.com was an online storage for posting iWork documents - it's closed and its functions superceded by iCloud.
Your iCloud account is as secure as your password, so make sure it's a strong one - at least 8 characters (12 is better), one of which must be lower case, one upper case and one a numeral (no odd characters), and not your birthday, dog's name, or 'password'!

  • I want to update my Mac from 10.6.8 to Mavericks, but every time it says update unavailable for this computer. How do I check for space available or how much space I  have used? Help please, I am new to using Mac computers.

I am a new Mac user and I bought a refrubished Mac that has Mac OS X VERSION 10.6.8. I have been wanting to upgrade to Mavericks, but every time I go to do that a message comes up saying OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer. Is there anyway I can instal it? Better yet how can I look up how much GB of memory I have and the available storage?

    1. No, but you might be able to upgrade to Lion. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check that the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU, and if so, click here.
    2. Check the RAM from the About this Mac window, choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, control-click the internal drive, and choose Get Info. If the computer has a 32-bit EFI, it can't be upgraded to Mountain Lion or above regardless of the RAM and free drive space.

  • HT4910 I have 2 lines and on 1 of the main phone I went to settings then storage & backup automatically it showed how much space i have which was not allot and it also showed the other line storage space. I click on manage storage and it used to show both

I was told that I have 14.9 gb of space on my phone when my total is 15gb. I was adviced to free storage and to click on settings and manage my storage by either purchase more or turning off or deleting some of the back ups. When I went in to settings then to icloud it usually would of showed me both phone storage memory and when I started going down my list and turning off some of the apps from back ups of certain app all of a sudden I couldnt no longer see my phone storage memory or my account name for that matter. Now I only see the other line username and storage space that the other phone has.
What can I do? I used to see the list of all the apps I have on icloud and now its empty and it tells me I have available 13.4 gb available.
    Please advice. Thank you
    Patricia

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

  • How much space I have left?

My two year old Macbook has 80GB. My hard drive is saying I have 1GB left. How can I find out what is taking all this space up? I took it to the genius bar and the apple employee said I had 20GB of photos and 22GB of music.
i found out i had 2 copies of all my photos, i fixed that probably and deleted half of them. Now my hard drive is saying i have 8GB of room left. All i do is use it for pictures and music. how can i find out where the other 50GB are going? this seems like a lot of space that i should have freed up. Thanks.

  • How can I verify how much space I have on iCloud?

I received two emils saying my acount was full. They came from private email address. I suspect they are bogus. How can I verify where I stand with my icloud account?

Apple will send out emails when it calculates your allocation is close to or has been used up. This can occur even when for example, you have initiated a backup but not completed it, others appear to have noted it can occur when moving large amounts of iCloud email around from folder to folder, the email is sent when the space to be used is calculated.

  • How do I know how much space I have free on my internal SSD - conflicting information

I upgraded the hard drive in my early 2011 macbook pro to a 512 GB SSD.
When I go into 'get info' in Finder it was  152 GB free (out of 512 GB)
However,  when I run two third party utilities it tells me instead that I have  100 GB free.
First    "Daisy Disk" - a great utility - scans the SSD  and comes back with  99.9 GB free.
Then 'Cocktail'  another top utility tells me I have used 80% of my SSD  - also implying  100 GB free.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
PS One more thing,  a few days ago  'get info' in Finder was showing  just 120 GB free, so I had a clear out of unwanted files and cleared out 30 GB of junk , hence the 152 GB free now (according to 'get info').    Even before the clear out, the 3rd party utilities were showing 100 GB free and that's what they're still showing now.  Any ideas welcome.
    Regards
    Danbo

Apps that scan all your folders and total up file sizes cannot give accurate pictures of total disk space used, because they cannot look inside certain folders that you don't have access to. Some of those folders will be system folders, others will be folders belonging to other user accounts. The "Get Info" numbers in the Finder are correct.
