How do I choose an application.....?

I sent a zipped folder (using WinRar) from another computer ( PC) to my iMac G5, on trying to open the enclosed document i had a window open to tell me " There is no default application specified to open document "
Being new to 'Mac" as well as computing this seems way over my head !!! What does it mean ? And what do I have to do to get it to open ( the document is in text form).
I don't really know which is the application to select, or how to select....please treat me gently !!!.

You've opened a can of worms here loons! I've just spent the last 45 mins on google trying to sort this one out. All I can come up with, in the absence of what the file is and how it was created, is .INK files, which suggests that it is an image file created with Coreldraw, and .dat files, which suggests it's in an exclusive format created by Outlook. As you sent the file from the PC to your Mac (by email? network?) you, presumably, know what the details are. Perhaps with some info re the file's origin someone can provide the answer

Sure. Take one of your .doc files (or whatever you want to open) and hold down the Control button and click on it. You should see a contextual menu and Get Info. Click on that (Get Info) and a window will open. Toward the bottom of the window you'll see Open with: and a drop down. Open the drop down and navigate to the NeoOffice application you want. Then once that's selected you can use the Change All... button to change all those .doc files to open with NeoOffice.

I can't open .doc downloads with MS Office. I click tools-options-applications and Word is not in the list of choices. I browse and double click MS Office to choose it only to get more subfolders. How do I choose Office?

When I receive a .doc (or .docx) to download from an email, open office or another similar application is chosen to open it instead of MS Office Word (have 2007 student). I have a similar problem. Even though Word is listed under Firefox applications as opening .doc files, when I try to download a .doc file, it always asks me to choose an application and I have to go through an extra three steps to open Word.

I installed Photoshop CS2 recently and now a whole slew of applications show up when I click on a jpg file and select "Open With..." I know how to change the default application for the files, but how do I remove applications from this list? I don't need to ever choose between 40 applications to open jpeg files - just a few. Then why don't you remove them yourself? Go to this page and download PropertyListEditor.dmg. It normally is incuded with the free XCode package from Apple.
Install the app in your Utilities folder and then you can edit plist files whenever you want.
Open com.apple.launchservices.plist and unfold the object tree. Now you can browse and delete objects. It is recommended you backup the file before messing with it.
You can also "Dump" the entire file, it might be faster to see what all is in it.

There is a mechanism built into subVIs and subVI calls to open when
called and close when finished. This still works fine for many tasks
and is quick and easy. To use this, you can use the File>>VI Properties
on your subVI, go to Window Appearance, Customize, and it is in the left
column near the bottom.
You can also set this on a subVI call by right clicking, choosing SubVI
node setup and set the same Open when called and Close on exit settings.

second can be set to pop open sometimes and other

m$7 chooses windows media default and c/n get it to open pdf files w/o hassle. I want to put Adobe acro XI on list and as default for 'choose helper application'. Top question answer [from your search] sounds quite simple but an hour of struggling and no luck! I assume m$ 7 wants to make it as difficult as possible to use anybody else's application. They have succeded,,,,, even in firefox they come up as unchangeable default and I c/n even add any one else to list......I need step by step dummy directions...not just go to preferences.... but,. how to find preferences......Mahalo!

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the about:config page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to use a PDF plugin like the Adobe Reader.

I am new to MS SQL Server 2005. We have developed the OLAP Cubes on SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio with its integration with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE).
The backend query is in MDX language. Now if I need to run that query I need to access the MDX Application, rite?
So need to know how to connect to MDX application.

I just purchased my E51 some days ago. The phone packaged with Advanced Call Manager pre-installed in microSD card. Now I want to use my 2gb microSD instead of 512mb from Nokia but I will lose the application if I take out the microSD card. How can I move that application from card to phone memory since I could not find the *.sis of that application.

A new phone just includes the installers - you can choose whether to install on the phone or memory card.
However, you can still transfer the app to the newer memory card. Use a card reader, or connect your phone in "Data Transfer Mode", and copy ALL the content of the 512mb card to your computer - make sure that you include the hidden files too. Then copy over these files to your new memory card, again take care to copy the hidden files. That way, you will have the pre-installed software on your new memory card.

How do you delete an application?

In iPhone 2.0, how do you delete an application? I've tried by pressing and holding the app until it wiggles and this clicking the "x"; that removes the icon,but when I sync it comes back. I've tried by going to my library, right clicking the app and choosing delete, but it still seems to not go away.
