How do i clean fast a very large bookmakrs menue

I have "inherited" a PC with Firefox 3.6 that has a bookmark menu of over 6000 items. Manual deletion seems to be very slow and may require many hours.
Is there a fast way to erase all items in BOOKMARKS and then import
my own

Start Firefox in Firefox safe mode, in the dialog box that appears select "Delete all bookmarks except for backups", then click "Make Changes and Restart". This will leave you with the handful of default bookmarks that you get with a new installation.
For details about how to start in safe mode see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
You can then import your own bookmarks.

  • How can NI FBUS Monitor display very large recorded files

    NI FBUS Monitor version 3.0.1 outputs an error message "Out of memory", if I try to load a large recorded file of size 272 MB. Is there any combination of operating system (possible Vista32 or Vista64) and/or physical memory size, where NI FBUS Monitor can display such large recordings ? Are there any patches or workarounds or tools to display very large recorded files?

    Hi,
    NI-FBUS Monitor does not set the limitation on the maximum record file size. The physical memory size in the system is one of the most important factors that affect the loading of large record file.  Monitor will try loading the entire file into the memory during file open operation.
    272MB is a really large file size. To open the file, your system must have sufficient physical memory available.  Otherwise "Out of memory" error will occur.
    I would recommend you do not use Monitor to open a file larger than 100MB. Loading of a too large file will consume the system memory quickly and decrease the performance.

  • How to check duplicate in a very large table

    How  to  check duplicate  value (say mobile number) in a table  having 50 million records

    I need  to  know whether  the data(Mobile Number)  is  already  there  in  the  table whenever a new  row  is  inserted
    You can also use the MERGE statement and the WHEN NOT MATCHED clause to insert rows only if that value is not there.
    But if you are just checking the one column then a unique index would do it.
    Does that column allow a NULL value?
    Do you care about existing duplicate values?
    If you only want to check NEW inserts then create a UNIQUE constraint and use the ENABLE NOVALIDATE clause:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/clauses002.htm
      ENABLE NOVALIDATE ensures that all new DML operations on the constrained data comply with the constraint. This clause does not ensure that existing data in the table complies with the constraint.
    That will check new data but leave the old data alone - no performance hit for the old data.

  • Checking a Sub String in a String of a very large file ?

    Hi All,
    I am having a 20mb file and i am coverting that 20mb file to a string.now i like to search whether the following substring appears in the string
    a) One
    b) Two
    c) Three
    I am just checking with String.indexOf() for each .
    Is there is any other efficient way of searching this rather than the above method String.indexOf
    please give me some suggestion how to perform searching in a very large string.
    Thanks,
    J.Kathir

    We have to read line and check for the three strings
    right ?
    Is there is any other way to check the substring in
    the whole string ?
    Reading line by line and searching for the three
    strings or Reading the entire file as string and
    searching for the substring
    which is better ?Depends on your definition of "better" - reading line by line saves memory, but is probably slower. Reading the entire file into memory then searching it is probably faster but takes more memory.
    As a third option, if you're using version 1.5, you can use the Scanner class to read the file and search for all 3 strings at the same time...something like this:
    Scanner scn = new Scanner(new File("myfile.txt"));
    String regExp = "a|b|c";
    String s;
    while ((s = scn.findWithinHorizon(regExp)) != null) {
      System.out.println("Found: " + s);
    scn.close();I'm pretty sure this is more efficient as it looks for anything matching the regular expression as it goes through the String...but I haven't done any timings on each approach.

  • I need to sort very large Excel files and perform other operations.  How much faster would this be on a MacPro rather than my MacBook Pro i7, 2.6, 15R?

    I am a scientist and run my own business.  Money is tight.  I have some very large Excel files (~200MB) that I need to sort and perform logic operations on.  I currently use a MacBookPro (i7 core, 2.6GHz, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I am thinking about buying a multicore MacPro.  Some of the operations take half an hour to perform.  How much faster should I expect these operations to happen on a new MacPro?  Is there a significant speed advantage in the 6 core vs 4 core?  Practically speaking, what are the features I should look at and what is the speed bump I should expect if I go to 32GB or 64GB?  Related to this I am using a 32 bit version of Excel.  Is there a 64 bit spreadsheet that I can us on a Mac that has no limit on column and row size?

    Grant Bennet-Alder,
    It’s funny you mentioned using Activity Monitor.  I use it all the time to watch when a computation cycle is finished so I can avoid a crash.  I keep it up in the corner of my screen while I respond to email or work on a grant.  Typically the %CPU will hang at ~100% (sometimes even saying the application is not responding in red) but will almost always complete the cycle if I let it go for 30 minutes or so.  As long as I leave Excel alone while it is working it will not crash.  I had not thought of using the Activity Monitor as you suggested. Also I did not realize using a 32 bit application limited me to 4GB of memory for each application.  That is clearly a problem for this kind of work.  Is there any work around for this?   It seems like a 64-bit spreadsheet would help.  I would love to use the new 64 bit Numbers but the current version limits the number of rows and columns.  I tried it out on my MacBook Pro but my files don’t fit.
    The hatter,
    This may be the solution for me. I’m OK with assembling the unit you described (I’ve even etched my own boards) but feel very bad about needing to step away from Apple products.  When I started computing this was the sort of thing computers were designed to do.  Is there any native 64-bit spreadsheet that allows unlimited rows/columns, which will run on an Apple?  Excel is only 64-bit on their machines.
    Many thanks to both of you for your quick and on point answers!

  • With journaling, I have found that my computer is saving a large amount of data, logs of all the changes I make to files; how can I clean up these logs?

    With journaling, I have found that my computer is saving a large amount of data, logs of all the changes I make to files; how can I clean up these logs?
    For example, in Notes, I have written three notes; however if I click on 'All On My Mac' on the side bar, I see about 10 different versions of each note I make, it saves a version every time I add or delete a sentence.
    I also noticed, that when I write an email, Mail saves about 10 or more draft versions before the final is sent.
    I understand that all this journaling provides a level of security, and prevents data lost; but I was wondering, is there a function to clean up journal logs once in a while?
    Thanks

    Are you using Microsoft word?  Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users.  I have seen this message from Microsoft word.  It's annoying.
    As BDaqua points out...
    When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
    If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
    You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.

    How do I clean my mid 2007 iMac?
         The disk space is running VERY low and I would love an idea. I make videos and upload them to youtube and I need space to do that. Thanks for your time!
                                       If you have an idea please respond!

    You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
    With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
    If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
    Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
    Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
    If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
    If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
    If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
    Look though other Apple Mail folders like the junk mail and delete the mail that is in there. Look through your sent items folders and see there is any mail in there that can be deieted.
    Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
    Other things you can do to gain space.
    Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
    This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
    STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
    Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
    Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
    Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
    Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
    Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
    move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
    If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • In Mail, one mailbox for Recovered Message (AOL) keeps showing 1 very large message that I cannot delete. How can I get rid of this recurring problem, please?

    In Mail on iMac, successfully running OS X Lion, one mailbox on My Mac for "Recovered Messages (from AOL)" keeps showing 1 very large message (more than 20 Mb) that I just cannot seem to delete. Each time I go into my In Box, the "loading" symbol spins and the message appears in the "Recovered Messages" mailbox. How can I get rid of this recurrent file, please?
    At the same time, I'm not receviving any new mails in my In Box, although, if I look at the same account on my MacBook Pro, I can indeed see the incoming mails (but on that machine I do not have the "recovery" problem).
    The help of a clear-thinking Apple fan would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.
    From Ian in Paris, France

    Ian
    I worked it out.
    Unhide your hidden files ( I used a widget from http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles.html)
    Go to your HD.
    Go to Users.
    Go to your House (home)
    there should be a hidden Library folder there (it will be transparent)
    Go to Mail in this folder
    The next folder ( for me ) is V2
    Click on that and the next one will be a whole list of your mail servers, and one folder called Mailboxes
    Click on that and there should be a folder called recovered messages (server) . mbox
    Click on that there a random numbered/lettered folder -> data
    In that data folder is a list of random numbered folders (i.e a folder called 2, one called 9 etc) and in EACH of these, another numbered folder, and then a folder called messages.
    In the messages folder delete all of the ebmx (I think that's what they were from memory, sorry I forgot as I already deleted my trash after my golden moment).
    This was GOLDEN for me. Reason being, when I went to delete my "recovered file" in mail, it would give me an error message " cannot delete 2500 files". I knew it was only 1 file so this was weird. Why 2500 files? Because if you click on the ebmx files like I did, hey presto, it turned out that they were ALL THE SAME MESSAGE = 2500 times. In each of those folders in the random numbers, in their related message folder.
    Now remember - DONT delete the folder, make sure you have gone to the message folder, found all those pesky ebmx files and deleted THOSE, not the folder.
    It worked for me. No restarting or anything. And recovered file. GONE.
    Started receiving and syncing mail again. Woohoo.
    Best wishes.

    How can we suggest a new DBA OCE certification for very large databases?
    What web site, or what phone number can we call to suggest creating a VLDB OCE certification.
    The largest databases that I have ever worked with barely over 1 Trillion Bytes.
    Some people told me that the results of being a DBA totally change when you have a VERY LARGE DATABASE.
    I could guess that maybe some of the following topics of how to configure might be on it,
    * Partitioning
    * parallel
    * bigger block size - DSS vs OLTP
    * etc
    Where could I send in a recommendation?

    Look at the topics for 1Z0-515. Assume that the 'lightweight' topics will go (like Best Practices) and that there will be more technical topics added.

    How do share a very large file?

    Do you want to send a GarageBand project or the bounced audio file?  To send an audio file is not critical, but if you want to send the project use "File > Compress" to create a .zip file of the project before you send it.
    If you have a Dropbox account,  I'd simply copy the file into the Dropbox "public" folder and mail the link. Right-click the file in the Dropbox, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere: emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.

    I using vb.net , framework 2.0.
    how can I get rid of this format?
    Thanks in advance

    should I change the type of this column to integer or long ?
    The datagridview is binded to binding source and a list ( Of).
    Mike,
    I'll show you an example that shows the correct way to do this and a another way if you're stuck using strings in exponential format. The latter being the "hack way" I spoke about Friday. I don't like it, it's dangerous, but I'll show both anyway.
    In this example, I'm using Int64 because I don't know the range of yours. If your never exceeds Int32 then use that one instead.
    First, I have a DataGridView with three columns. I've populated the data just by creating longs starting with the maximum value in reverse order for 100 rows:
    The way that I created the data is itself not a great way (there's no encapsulation), but for this example "it'll do".
    Notice though that the third column (right-most column) isn't formatted at all. I commented out the part that does that so that I could then explain what I'm doing. If it works, it should look like the first column.
    The first column represents an actual Int64 and when I show the code, you can see how I'm formatting that using the DGV's DefaultCellStyle.Format property. That's how it SHOULD be done.
    The third column though is just a string and because that string contains a letter in it, Long.TryParse will NOT work. This is where the "hack" part comes in - and it's dangerous, but if you have no other option then ...
    You can see that now the third column matches the first column. Now the code:
