How do i clean out caches

Hello everyone-
I am travelling and am away from my 27" Mac *twitch*
Anyway, I am working on some edits on my MacBook Pro and I need to clear up some space. I wanted to clear out the cache folder but wanted to be sure what to delete and what to keep before I go any further.
Any suggestions? Tips?
Help!
Thanks!

Yep, I use Time Machine, but I've never needed it to fix a problem with CleanMyMac. I take it you've had a bad experience? The link you posted above goes to a discussion where somebody used it to remove an Apple program called Aperture which likely uses shared resources. Not the smartest idea, and certainly not something I would ever do.
From my point of view CleanMyMac is pretty good and gives me a fast way to clean out the caches and junk. It also gives me a useful way of completely removing 3rd party Apps and their junk when I want to uninstall. It probably helps to know what you're doing and to know what you're selecting to be cleaned...
Any cleaner program can cause problems if you don't know what you or it are doing. Luckily I do.
To Lboogie111, if you're at the stage where your MBP is running out of space and you need to clear cache files to get some space back, you're likely going to have bigger problems. It's not usually a good idea to run with your drive nearly full. It can cause all kinds of weird problems.
I would recommend you consider upgrading your HDD to a bigger one.

Thanks for your helpful reply. If most of my website visitors are using Safari browser (( iPhone, iPad devices )) what type of flash should we use in the headers?

I hope to use my previous flash designs.
    Best regards
Since Apple designed iOS (per Steve Jobs' insistence) to be specifically incompatible with Flash, I wouldn't worry about what Flash content to use in headers for devices that can never, and will never, be able to see it.
I stopped using Flash for anything in my websites about six months ago, converting what I had to HTML5 (MP4) and any new content that would have previously been done in Flash is going the be the same.

  • How do I clean out the "Open With" dialog box when I right click an image?f

    Hi,
When I right-click and image to open it in a program I get a long list of programs to choose from. Many are duplicated or the same program but different version #s like Preview. How do I clean out the dupes and ones I don't want and keep the ones I do?
How would I add CS3's Adobe Camera Raw to the list?

Do a search for details on cleaning up the "open with" dialog, it's been discussed before but I'm sorry I can't remember what the fixes are.
I have duplicate choices too but have never tried to clean them up.

  • How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)?

Dear bros, I have a question which I concern about: How Can I Clean Memory, Cache...And Boost Memory On Playbook (like clean & boost memory on Blackberry phone)? I want to to this because I want my playbook run smoothly.
    Thanks all.

The PlayBook manages memory through the OS, there's no 'memory cleaner' like on the BlackBerry phones.
In the browser, there are settings to clear cache, cookies and history which do improve the browser performance.
You may want to try and change the PlayBook multitasking mode. Go into Settings - General and change 'Application Behaviour'. Showcase is full multitasking (slower), Paused pauses all programs when minimised and makes the PlayBook save battery and run a little faster.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do you clean out a start up disk

Hi, How do you clean out a Start up Disk to gain more room?
    Thanks

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How does one clean out the trash, after putting in a time line file in?

After cleaning out some old files, it was late one night that I put a old file from the Time Line into the trash.  Now how can this be FIXED?

Time Line...? If you mean Time Machine, then you should only delete old backups and files using the Time Machine interface.
If you did a NO NO and moved old Time Machine backups to the Trash using Finder? Then go to > Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions 12 and scroll down to the section in gray for the solution.

  • Help.. how do I clean out my network settings?

I'm having a big problem connecting to a particular network. It connects fine at home, but there seems to be something wrong at work. when I connect I get an IP address but then I'm not able to ping anything, not even the router. Of course nothing else network related works.
Is there someplace where I can completely wipe any preferences that OSX has?
I wonder if re-installing 10.3 will help clear out this problem?

Thanks I'll try that on another computer. Mine started working yesterday after I created a new location in the Network Preferences. I made a copy of the 'Automatic' location and the laptop started working OK (I was testing it by pinging it from another station). The Auto was set to configure via DHCP. If I switched back and forth between the original Automatic location and the new copy, it would take the same IP address but the pinging would not work in the original but it would work when the copy was active. Why is this happening?
On a side question, how do I find out which is the date and time for the release and renewal of the IP address when in DHCP? Kind of what you get with ipconfig /all on a win platform..
    Thanks
