Yesterday double clicked home button and all of my apps disappeared; cannot shut off i-pad, and syncing it does not restore apps or enable me to use it again. Help!
See if this fixes things.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
When I double click Home button to change apps quickly, only the four apps that reside on the task bar show. All of my apps would show prior to my reset of the iPad last night (to fix the Home button). Any ideas on how to fix?
My undertanding is that when you double-click the home button, the apps that are shown are those that are currently active. The reason you are not seeing all of them is that not all of them are active. Before you can access an app in the multitask bar, it has to be turned on first. As a test, try accessing the Notes application. Return to the home screen by clicking the Home button ONCE. Once the home screen appears, double click the home button to bring up the multitasking bar. The Notes app should be on the far left.

When i double click home button, I can see many applications running. How do I terminate these?
Those are not necessarily running. It's a list of previously opened apps for the most part. You can flick the cards upwards to get rid of them.

After upgrading ipad to iOS 7.1 I can no longer close open apps by double clicking home button. Any ideas
Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.

Re ios7 update - when I double click bottom button all sites visited come up as you scroll across screen. How can I ensure that no sites are shown or how do I delete sites visited?
Double clicking the Home button brings up multitasking. These are all the apps that are open in the background. You can close them by swiping the app preview page up to the top of the screen.
If you mean Safari websites, tap the tabs button (bottom right) and swipe each tab to the left to close them. -
I just upgraded to new iOS 7.2 and I don't know how to close out my applications? It doesn't work with the double click of home button and simply holding until the x shows?
Tap Home button twice then use an upward swipe on the preview to close the app

Double-click home button -- Am I really multitasking 50 apps?
I looked in the 200+ page iOS 4.1 manual on the Apple site. Sorry if I am overlooking something.
On multitasking, I understand that if one pushes the home button twice one sees the applications that are multitasking. Two questions:
1. When I do that, I see like 50 apps -- it seems more a "history." I didn't want to multitask them. I just closed them. Why are they there?
2. Are each of the 50 multitasking apps really consuming resources in background? Is it necessary to constantly go in and delete (turn off and thus remove from the multitasking screen) the multitasking apps to free up resources?
Thank you for considering my question. Sorry in advance if I am not clear on the concept.Hi,
That task bar shows recently used apps. Very few actually run anything in the background. There are only a few services that can run when an app is not displayed. The iOS4 compatible apps can suspend and live in RAM until that RAM is needed. SOme will run location services or audio or in the case of Skype VoIP services.
The system is not keeping all those apps running. If you go to an app there or in it's home screen location they will start the same.
It's just a list -
When im taking a picture directly from home screen after im finished the application remain open. This app is ussing the location and if im not closing like other applications by doble click the home button the batery will finished fast. On the other IOS 5 and 6 was not neccesary to unblock the phone and bouble click the home bottom.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I deleted all my photos and videos and then delete the deleted files but the photo app is still taking up 12 GB of space and I have no room for new stuff. How can I clear the memory space used by my deleted videos and photos? I don't know why the photos are still taking up space and if I will have to reset my phone to get rid of the problem.

How Do I Clear the app download screen
How do I clear the app update screen after I have updated the apps.
TThe apps do not delete. Apple has not programmed this I to the system. Keep on letting them know that this clutter is not necessary. Everyone was used to the old system, update and disappear when done. I do not like the clutter myself. Keep on asking apple to fix this.
