How Do I Clone A DB

Using SSMS I created a new DB (lets call it NEWDB) then I created a backup of the DB I wanted to Clone (lets call the File Clone.BAK).  Now when I attempt to restore NEWDB with CLONE.Bak I get an error message: "System.Data.SqlClient.SQLError:
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'NEWDB' Database"  What did I do wrong?  I thank you for any suggestions, ideas, or comments.  ......Phil Hoop

Hello,
What you're experiencing is a protection mechanism. It's telling you that you're attempting to restore over a database that isn't the same one that's in the backup. You have two options:
1. Delete the database as you don't actually need to create a new one to restore the backup as a different database. Changing the name in the RESTORE DATABASE syntax and giving new OS file names (to not cause file collisions) can create a new database by
restoring.
2. Use your existing restore database command for the new database you created but add REPLACE in the with clause. Doing this will force SQL Server to overwrite the database files. Do be sure before doing this as you don't want to accidentally overwrite
the wrong files.

  • How do I clone Parallels?

I need to clone Parallels (I have Parallels Desktop 7) separately from the Mac HD so backing up the computer won't work for me.
How do I clone Parallels, meaning everything including files etc?
I have internet banking set up on Parallels (Windows 7) and that was really difficult to set up so it's important that I clone Parallels exactly so that I can migrate it to the new computer and do internet banking on it.
Also, after cloning, how do I restore the clone to my computer?
I am moving from Lion to Snow Leopard by the way.
The Parallels is on the Lion machine but I want to migrate to the Snow Leopard machine.
I cannot use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the HD including the Parallels file because there is a problem with that. I have to clone and migrate and restore Parallels separately.
I will use an external disk to store the clone on.
    Thanks for help with this.

    Thanks for the instructions.
I saw "Clone" in the menu of Parallels. And when I clicked on it, it asks where you want to save the clone. So that's why I thought you could clone Parallels.
The support person outlined almost the same steps you did but she didn't really go into what to do after copying the Parallels folder into the Documents folder.
When you'll start 'Parallels ' app., open this folder (from pull-down menu).
In the Parallels menu, there is a "migrate" option. Should I use this?
Also you can do online backup using Acronis. This appears in the menu.
I will try your steps, Star1. Thanks.

  • How do you clone the install disk?

i was reading in another post about installing the OS over a network and the solution given was to install to an Ext. Firewire drive and clone the installed OS to the firewire drive then clone it again onto the target mac.
this solution may not work well for me, but i too was considering a family user license to update as many of my macs as i can. However, i want to wait until the next version of the OS is available. (i see no point in buying an OS i already own on one computer for another $199, so i will wait).
the other thread offered up two solutions. one was to have a, if i understand it correctly, i network version of the OS (X server), and the other was as posted above.
so how do yo clone the OS (i assume it is the actual installed OS and not the installer. how much room is needed to do it?

yes, thank you i see that.
i don't know much about servers, but it kind of sounds like i would be running the OS from a server and not the individual macs. i don't think that will work for me either.
it sounds like i will need to by the multi-license then exchange the DVDs for CDs so i can install on the G4 DP 533.
i could use the clone method, but the mac isn't really a clone, they have their own identities in mutlti-user log in.

  • How can I clone my old macbook to my new Macbook Pro 768GB SSD

    Hi,
I have a 2 year old macbook and have just received my new Macbook Pro Retina dispaly with a 768gb SSD.
How can I clone my old drive to my new Macbook as the unit is sealed so I cant ge the drive out.
    thanks.

Bootable clones can only be used with the same model machine as there are machine specific hardware drivers involved that are different between different models of Mac's.
Probally the fastest way would be to clone the old Mac boot drive to a external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, then connecting it to the new Mac and booting the new Mac (first time) into Setup Assistant and then use that to "migrate" accounts and programs over. Takes a few hours.
Transfering via Wifi does take FOREVER. like several days in some cases.
If you have the new Mac already setup, then use Migration Assitant in the Utilities folder.
However Setup Assistant and Migrations are not perfect and tend to fail badly if you had problems on the older Mac, sometimes these problems are unseen and only until you try to use the new Mac afterwards do they appear.
You might want to opt instead of installing the same name account on the new Mac, installing 10.8 compatible programs from original sources and then use the external clone of the old Mac drive to transfer just user files manually into the same Pcitures, Movies, Documents etc., folders.
Since you have a SSD, you can load programs later, it's hard drives that you want to install programs before user data to run them faster.
Get a cleaner machine doing it manaully that way and you know there is nothing nsaty hidden, like what Setup Assistant and Migrations often transfer.

  • How do I Clone dust spots from video across footage? I can do on individual frames but don't know ho

How do I Clone dust spots from video across footage in CC? I can do on individual frames but don't know how to batch process .
How do I save it after? Render?

To fill in the void in the background, you can use the clone tool. However, for a large area that may not work well.
A good alternative is to use a "digital patch". With the rectangular marquee tool , select a pleasing substitute from somewhere else in the picture (not a fire hydrant!),  then place this on its own layer (CTRL+J), and with the move tool position the patch and resize it if indicated
You should also explore the Recompose tool (ALT+CTRL+R) which may work well for your purpose.

  • How do i clone iMac to my used macbook pro

using fire wire to my macbk pro how do i clone it from my imac so it is identical everything, dah thus clone

Since no one has answered, I’ll jump in.
I don’t know how to do this with FireWire but I can say how to migrate the data with a disk.  When you are done this disk can be used as a backup disk for the MBP so it is not a wasted item.
From your signature I infer the iMac is currently running Mavericks and the MBP is running Lion and you want to upgrade the MBP to Mavericks as part of this process, copying over all the data, preferences, etc.
That is best done with a clean install on the MBP transferring the data either over FireWire or a cloned disk.  I can speak to the disk method.
    First, prepare the clone.
Use Disk Utility to format the disk Mac OS Extended (journaled) with a GUID partition.
If you need help see the instructions below.
Then you can purchase some cloning software  (which you can continue to use for a good backup method) or you can use Disk Utility to create the clone.  The software to purchase would be either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper!  I’ll give the instructions for using Disk Utility here in case you do not want to purchase those.
    Formatting the external drive:
    On the iMac:
    Finder > Go > Utilities.
    > Disk Utility.
Plug the external disk into the iMac.
    Select that disk’s volume name.
    > Partition
    Partition Layout > 1 Partition
    Name > Clone1
    Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    > Options > GUID Partition Table > OK
    > Apply
Cloning onto the external drive with Disk Utility:
    In the iMac:
    > Disk Utility
    > Restore
Drag the System Volume (often called Macintosh HD) into the Source: window.
Drag the external volume (Clone1) into the Destination: window.
    > Restore
    Wait until it finishes.
    Clean Install:
    On the MBP:
    Boot the recovery partition.   http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
    > Disk Utility.
    > Erase.
    Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    Name: Macintosh HD
If it is an SSD do not write zeros to the SSD.  Just skip to Erase…
    If it is a disk:
    > Security Options…
Select “Writes a single pass of zeroes over the entire disk”.
    > OK
    > Erase…
    Wait until it finishes.
This will write to every block and map out bad blocks.
    Install Mavericks on Macintosh HD.
    Reboot from Macintosh HD.
    Plug in Clone1.
When the installation instructions as from where you want to restore files, tell it from a disk and indicate Clone1.
Wait a while and you will have a freshly installed Mavericks system with all the data from the iMac.

  • How do I clone a sub-sequence

If I have a sub-sequence in my sequence file, how do I clone it using the TS_function set? How does cloning a sequence differ from TS_PropertyClone(stepName,errorFile,"",0,clonedStepName)?

    Hello,
The short answer to your question is that there is no telling difference between cloning a sequence and cloning a step. The function TS_PropertyClone can work on any given property object. In the case that you would wish to clone a sequence, you would need to grab an ActiveX reference to the desired sub-sequence, acquire the property object of it, and then clone it. Once you have the new object stored (usually via a local variable of the ActiveX reference type), use SequenceFile.InsertSequence() or a related function to insert the cloned sequence into a particular location.

    Clone
Disk utility has RESTORE which will also clone your system but not the Lion Recovery partition. Oddly  Apple did not 'endorse' making bootable clone of the system which works too but most choose Carbon Copy Cloner - it works more consistently; it allows for smart update of the backup volume. Both can backup to a sparse disk image if desired.

  • Hows to remove clones/duplicates on iPhoto?

how to remove clones/duplicates on iPhoto?
    Thanks
    JohnFMe

    Hi Larry,
I have not been importing photos for some time.  Literally, I open I Photo and pictures from my library are dupe'd, side by side - 2 - 3 even four side by side.  I deleted hundreds of faces pulled from photos that just appeared in the library.  Nope.  I don't use the FACES feature.  These simply appeared in my library.  Other photos that are not mine - look like they must be from web sites or something have appeared as well.
When I was importing from my camera I always checked the box to not import any duplicates.  It appeared that was being done properly.
I shoot raw +jpeg now with a new camera and so two of each shot comes into the library but the dupes I'm talking about are pretty much happening throughout years of pictures.
Yesterday I met w/a tech at Apple and upgraded to the most current I Photo.  But, the comments I've seen seem to be happening on the later versions as well.

  • How can I clone a completed Exchange Server 2013 in a Lab Enviroment?

I was having great time with my Exchange Server 2013 until I tried to clone it to avoid fresh installation of another Exchange 2013 server. Steps taken
(1)Clone the Exchange1 and turn it off
    (2) Brought the Clone Exchange2, renamed it, change the IP configurations,
    (3) Re-ran the ADprep/Doamin prep
    (4) Checked the ASDIedit to verify the Schema/configuration in AD
    (5) Restarted I and was able to logon to the Exchange2
    (6) Brought up the Exchange1, but unable to logon because the name was no longer in AD database
What I did to fix this:
    (7) Rejoin the Exchange1 to the domain - and was able to logon
    (8) Unable to access ECP or OWA of any of the two servers.
    (9) Errors received - Fix the configuration file of the application
My Question - How to I fix the configuration file as suggested (via powershell or GUI or ASDIedit.msc)?

Unless you are cloning an entire environment, and then bringing it up in a seperate isolated environment, it is not supported to simply clone an Exchange Server, and then bring it online in an existing environment and rename it to save on setup and configuration
    time.
You can script the setup and configuration of Exchange through Powershell, either with scripts or with another product controlling it - something like
    System Center Orchastrator.
From the script side of things there are many available on peoples blogs. Check
    here.
Edit: and to be clear, there is no need to re-run any prep tasks against Active Directory when installing a new Exchange Server, unless you are installing into a new domain as part of your Forest.

  • How do I clone an external disk using CCC?

I have a MacBook Air and because it has only 256 GB and I need about three times that space for storing movies, document files etc., I use an external hard disk to keep these files on.
I formatted this disk using Mac Extended Journal but I did not put the Snow Leopard Operating System on it. I just move files from the computer's hard drive to the disk as required.
I had a scare once where the data on another external hard disk was wiped out because of a faulty USB cord. All the movies were lost and I could not recover the data. The disk also failed to mount. This problem kept happening several times. When I got rid of the faulty USB cord, the external disk mounted and I never lost data again. I am certain all the problems were due to the faulty USB cord. I have been using the same external disk ever since and it has been working fine with the non-faulty USB cord so I am sure it didn't have anything to do with the disk and it was the USB cord that was the problem. I used the same faulty USB cord with other external disks and the same problems arose - failure to mount etc.
This is the background for why I want to make a copy of this external drive. I don't want to lose the movies and other data on this disk if something goes wrong again and want everything on another disk just in case.
I usually use Carbon Copy Cloner to make backups. But that is with a external disk that has OS 10.6.8 on it.
I really don't want to put OS 10.6.8 on the external drive where I store movies and other over-spill data on it.
How do I go about making a copy of this external disk using CCC (or using another program if CCC won't work for this)?
I have two USB ports on my MBA. I prefer to use CCC over SuperDuper because I had a problem with SuperDuper in the past.

So as I understand it, CCC will clone any disk to any disk so long as it's formatted to Mac (extended Journal) and I don't have to put the Mac operating system on the disks that I am copying from and copying to?
    Thanks for answering.
