How do I clone a hard drive, replacing 500 GB with 1TB

I have an HP Pavillion 20 and need more storage so I purchaed a 1TB HD toreplace the 500GB
How to I clone the drive or could someone tell me the most efficient way to move all the DATA from one drive to the other.I cannot afford to purchase a program to do this. Surely there is a way.

Mac Pro with Lion had hard drive replaced, left me with 10.5

My late 2007 Mac Pro with Lion had hard drive replaced by Genius Bar at Short Pump, VA, Apple Store. They left me with 10.5, I have gotten back to 10.6.8 but how can I get back to Lion? Any tips? On-line advice to hold OPTION key down while clicking "purchases" doesn't work. The 2007 Mac Pro can't take Mountain Lion. Am I stuck with Snow Leopard?

Don't know what OS I was at when I saw the purchase, but there was no install button and the layout of the app store was weird. I had over 100 apps there for my ipad, and it let me download them all, but not Lion. Now that I am finally up to 10.6.8, I only see 4 apps, not Lion. One (iphoto) ironically says "requires OS X v10.7". Where is Lion now? It is not there in my purchased list, whether I hold "option" while pressing "purchases" or not.

I want to know what is the correct way to clone my early 2008 MacBook Pro hard drive, I own SuperDuper. I want to clone the original hard drive and then replace the hard drive with a new 7200 rpm, I have heard the best way to this is to clone the original hard drive, and then once the new hard drive is installed migrate the clone back to the new hard drive.
Can some either give me the steps to this or point where I can get detailed information on how to do this.

Since you have SuperDuper already, it's simple.
1) Connect an external drive, launch SuperDuper and run a backup (SmartBackup is fine, too).
2) Swap out the drives in the MBP.
3) Connect the external drive to the MBP and boot from it (hold option key at startup).
4) Launch SuperDuper, click the Restore tab, and Restore from the boot drive to the new internal drive.

So This is what I'm Trying to do:
My goal is to get a SSD (Solid State Drive) and Use that to boot up My Macbook Pro, 15-inch, 2.2 Ghz quad core i7, Late 2011 Model.

3. Use that Hard Drive (My 500Gb Internal Hard Drive) To Boot Up The Macbook Pro
4. Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) (http://www.bombich.com/) to Clone the Entire 40Gbs that are on the 500gb hard drive to the 60GB SSD
5. Erase the Old HD That's Currently In My Laptop.
6. Use the old HD as An external Hard Drive
7. Transfer all my files (Movies music and such) from my backup to the now external Hard drive
8. Link the folders to the new destinations
My Question is, will this work? If it will, tell me, if it wont, tell me and, More importantly, Let me know how to change my instructions. Any help, tips, and tricks would be appriciated and, If it is relevant, I will award points!

Mac Performance Guide DigiLLoyd wrote a blog about his experience moving to a Boot Drive using an External FireWire. He said that having any boot drive was so superior he would never go back. (Since he is a raving proponent of SSD drives, I was looking for a white paper on Boot drives on SSD, and was very surprised that I did not find it there.)
This leaves me with the impression that the biggest speedup is ANY Boot Drive, and that putting the boot drive onto an SSD gives incremental, but not revolutionary, improvement for your work.
This is a real dilemma with a MacBook when you only have space for ONE Internal drive.
The real-world performance of an SSD could occasionally exceed to the limits of a 3G drive. But in my opinion, it will not seriously impinge on the performance. Your interface is probably limited to a 3G transfer rate anyway, so the 6G would be wasted.

How do you clone a hard drive with boot camp?

My daughter got a new 13" Macbook pro in July. She is still running Lion. Se started to exerience system freezes. She called Applye support which had her reset the PRAM(?). The the system would no longer boot. When she went away to college, I sent her off with an external usb drive partitioned for Tme Machine and also with a partition of a copy of her system from that date. She was able to boot into that and continue her work. The internal hard drive did not show up as a boot option, but was accessible one she had booted to the external drive. This morning the internal drive was an option when she did the boot to external. My son had a similar situation a few years ago with a Mac mini and it turned out to be a failing internal hard drive. We have decided to continue from the external HD until she comes home for Thanksgiving and can go to the local Apple store. In addition to OSX she also has bootcamp with Windows 7. Now to my question. Is there a way to clone her internal hard drive including the Windows bootcamp? I would like to create a clone we can use for a restore as we expect the internal drive will be replaced. Time Machine can replce the OSX system, but I am thinking if we can do an exact copy of the internal drive, then we would not have to reinstall or recover the Windows system. Any ideas? Would Carbon Copy or Super Duper work better? I believe one of them has a family license so that I could use it for the other kids cloning as well.

You can't clone the entire drive. You can clone the OS X partition and the Windows partition separately.
Cloning OS X should be done with Disk Utility or Carbon Copy Cloner. The Windows volume can be cloned using Windows software, Winclone 3.5, or Volume Snapshot.

How do I clone my Hard Drive?

I have a MacBook Pro HDD that is maxed out and will not boot. So I've bought a larger HDD to clone to.
I can't use SuperDuper because I can't get in to the OS. The MacBook Pro is my only Apple computer. I do have a Windows 7 PC and a Linux box though.
Can I use either of those to clone the Apple HDD properly? (I already tried using Symantec Ghost on from Hiren's and that was a miserable failure)

No, yo can't clone a Mac drive with Windows or Linux. The filesystem format is totally alien to them, hence the failure. I'm supposing you have the shiny new drive in an external enclosure for cloning purposes.
If you're using Lion, get into Lion Recovery Mode (press Command-R prior to the startup chime) and use Disk Utility. Since the new disk will probably come preformatted for Windows systems, use DU to first remove the NTFS partition, repartition in GUID partition scheme (see Options...) and MacOS X Extended format. Next, in the Restore tab choose the internal drive's Macintosh HD volume as Source and your new drive as Destination. Let'er rip, go get a cuppa Joe, will take awhile. After it finishes, test it out by booting: press Option prior to the chime and pick the new boot volume from the list. Once satisfied, swap drives and be done.

New Hard drive replacement not working with Recovery Disc from old drive.

Had a recent hard drive failure and I my HP Recovery disc that I received last year to to restore after system failure; won't work now on new hard drive. Unable to copy disc from Drive D to Drive C is the error I'm getting during phase 1 of recovery setup. BootMgr is not found error when i startup PC. Unable to recover Windows. My Hard disk and system memory test were failing, now ok after new drive install'; still can't get into Windows though.

How to share an external hard drive on my mac with my ipad

with some apps like aceplayer or filebrowser, I can get files from my mac but not from my external hard drive witch is usb plugged to my mac.
Is os x server the answer? would it allow access to my extern drive?

I've never used Aceplayer or FileBrowser, so I'm not 100% certain about this, but give it a try anyway -- I'm thinking that your Mac isn't set up to share your external HDD on your local network. See if you can access the external drive on a device other than your iPad to verify that your Mac is indeed sharing the external HDD on your local network (like from a friend's Mac or some other computer of some sort). Then at least you'll know if it's a problem on your Mac or a problem with the iPad software.
Does FileBrowser require iTunes to be running on the Mac? Perhaps there's a sharing setting in iTunes somewhere that's preventing you from seeing the external drive?
But like I said, I've never used FileBrowser or Aceplayer, so I'm just taking some shots in the dark here. Hope it helps...

Permission problems in my newly installed hard drive from iMac 1 TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program. Is that normal?

Just got back my iMac with a brand new replacement hard drive through the iMac 1 TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program. With only apps installed, no files and fonts added, the hard drive already shows permission problems. Is that normal? The replacement hard drive is a Seagate again, ST31000528BAS. Do people like their replacement hard drive?

Just now looking at these... Last recall 2009 MacbookPro Video issues, I waited 4 years and it took 4 trips to apple store with video of the machine problems... Days and months past, finally with stern discussion with manager, got resolved. Now Drive recall on work machine... better take advantage now. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!
Should have thought of it... Have TM full back up... (will look into clone next time, now that I see this). Take in 27iMac running 10.6.8, 5-7 days, what a joke, my boss will be happy to pay for a week without working. Finally get, "if you have TM back up, 3 days." Get machine back with 10.6.3, hit the R recovery, click TM back up, runs for 2 hours, reboots, looks great. Box up take back to office... update to install - OH CRAP, still running 10.6.3. Updates crash with error on install, BUG PROBELM, nothing runs.
Call Apple... after hours, tells me to boot using 10.6.2 disk, wipe, reinstall OS, udate to 10.6.8, THEN do the restore. GREAT! Only thing 10.6.2 DVD won't read... now back on phone... take back to the store, Genius says, "Oh, can't boot a newer system w/ old disk, that's why it won't read." PROMISES it'll be fixed, if you leave it over night... GREAT!
Pick up next day, supposedly, booted to disk, wiped drive, reinstalled, updated to 10.6.8 and did the RIGHT restore... Looks GREAT... apps run and 10.6.8 OS. Back to the office... CRAP!! not running right... fonts messed up, drop box app needs new install, cocktail needs upgrade, Fetch not working, memorized paths gone... back ups locked out of permissions... ***!!
4 hours on phone with apple and still not solved. Evidently... either different account names caused problems... and/or they never restored personal "settings". Seems there are 3 ways to restor... Running Migration Assistant, Restoring after they load a new OS... or NOW WAITING for them to send me a bootable 10.6.3 disk and then boot from disk, w/o installing OS and doing a restore from TM.
Can begin to make enough stink!! So now can't back up without doing a full 400 GB back up and possibly destroying any good back ups... can't work, liek having hands tied behind back. WAITING for solution! TICKED OFF!!!

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

Based on a thread I started and others I've read, I would backup your System with a bootable clone to an external HD. After the new HD is installed, use the clone backup to restore your new HD. You can do this with Apps like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. That's what I plan on doing.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can't doing anything abouty this, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.
