How do I clone Parallels partition for migration to another computer?

I have Parallels on my MBP (Lion OSX). In Parallels (Windows 7 operating system), I have internet banking set up and since this was very difficult to do, I want to migrate the Parallels partition in the same state that it's in to the new computer.
The machine I am migrating to does not have Parallels set up on it.
The second (destination) computer is an MBA with Snow Leopard on it (it originally came with SL and I was using that OS before the computer broke down. I am getting it back from repairs soon). I want to stay with SL on the MBA. Therefore I can't make a clone of the Mac HD of the MBP and simply restore that to the MBA. I believe that if I did that, I would have the Lion OS on the MBA even if I installed SL on the MBA before doing the migration.
The Mac HD part is not a problem. I made a clone of the Mac HD of the MBA before I sent it off for repairs. So I can easily restore the Mac HD onto the MBA.
But I do not have Parallels on the MBA. I installed Parallels and set up internet banking on the MBP (after I sent the MBA off for repairs.)
How do I move the Parallels that I installed on the MBA (Lion OS) onto the MBA (SL), keeping everything the same, that is, with all the files preserved?

When I go into Parallels, I see a "Clone" option. Will this clone Parallels for me?
It's really important that I have an exact clone of Parallels and its contents.
You already have a copy of the files needed, they are in the Parallels folder, usually located in 'Documents'

  • How do I clone Parallels?

I need to clone Parallels (I have Parallels Desktop 7) separately from the Mac HD so backing up the computer won't work for me.
How do I clone Parallels, meaning everything including files etc?
I have internet banking set up on Parallels (Windows 7) and that was really difficult to set up so it's important that I clone Parallels exactly so that I can migrate it to the new computer and do internet banking on it.
Also, after cloning, how do I restore the clone to my computer?
I am moving from Lion to Snow Leopard by the way.
The Parallels is on the Lion machine but I want to migrate to the Snow Leopard machine.
I cannot use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the HD including the Parallels file because there is a problem with that. I have to clone and migrate and restore Parallels separately.
I will use an external disk to store the clone on.
    Thanks for help with this.

    Thanks for the instructions.
I saw "Clone" in the menu of Parallels. And when I clicked on it, it asks where you want to save the clone. So that's why I thought you could clone Parallels.
The support person outlined almost the same steps you did but she didn't really go into what to do after copying the Parallels folder into the Documents folder.
When you'll start 'Parallels ' app., open this folder (from pull-down menu).
In the Parallels menu, there is a "migrate" option. Should I use this?
Also you can do online backup using Acronis. This appears in the menu.
I will try your steps, Star1. Thanks.

  • How do i use parallel compression for 4 drum tracks in Logic pro 7.2.3 Please

how do i use parallel compression for 4 drum tracks in Logic pro 7.2.3 Please. my version is 7.2.3 and my son did his drums on 4 tracks. 2 OH's 1 Kick and 1 Snare. Were confused because we cant figure out how to do parallel compression on the older logic version 7.2.3?

I can't remember when the Aux tracks became the new buss tracks, so I'll spell this out using busses.
The way I do it, is I assign all my drum tracks to a buss, say buss 1.
Then, on buss 2, I assign it's INPUT to buss 1.
So buss 1 (all the drums) are feeding into buss 2 simultaneously.
Put a compressor on buss 2, turn the fader down all the way, then as the track is playing, bring buss 2's fader up slowly, until you hear the effect you're after.
You could also do this using sends on the 4 drum tracks, set to feed the buss with the compressor on it.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything particular to that version of Logic. See if this helps...

    No... do not move programs.
    About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

As Kappy said, download it from the App Store - this will give you a brand new copy. However unlikely, it's just possible you might be copying a corrupt version from the original computer.
In the App Store, make certain you use the same Apple ID that the App was purchased with.

I couldnt even contact adobe direct to address the issue.

If you registered with Adobe, your authorization number will be in your account on Adobe's website. Then you can use their downloads page and download CS5 and install it. A search on their main page will get you to the download page.

  • How much room should be partitioned for Windows XP?

Alright, I have a different install disc for XP with SP3 which should work. Since I'll only be using XP for a couple of things (mainly small programs, but also for office and such), how much room should I leave for XP on my 320 gig HD so that both OSs have some breathing room (most of my other stuff like music and pictures are on the Leopard side of things)?

But I hear that it has better compatibility to run FAT32 than NTFS. Does it really matter too much?
While OSX is able to read and write to FAT32 partition, it can only read from NTFS partitions.
With the help of apps like NTFS-3G http://www.ntfs-3g.org/ and/or NTFS for Mac http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ OSX can also write to NTFS partitions.
To me personally this is no problem, since I want OSX and Windows to seperated (I even have Windows on a harddisk of its own in my Mac Pro) and for file exchange between OSX and Windows I use an external FAT32 HD.
But the advantage of the newer, better and more robust NTFS file system outweighs these 'disadvantages'.
    And FAT32 has a file-size limitation for single-files of 4GB.
Also, not to be pessimistic, but what if something goes wrong with the partition or install? Can I restart my Mac and would it be unaffected? This disc should work, but I want to know just in case...
Before 'fumbling' with any kind of partitioning on a harddisk I always make a backup of my important files, or better said I use SuperDuper to make a bootable clone of my OSX.
While the chances that something goes wrong are quite slim (I have made the partitioning with the BootCamp Assistant for about 10 times now), the possibility is always there.

  • How to use a 2nd partition for data storage?

The 40 GB hard disk on my satellite L10 was delivered with two 20 GB partitions (drive C and D). I now understand (by reading this forum) that it is preferred to use one partition for data storage.
Until now there was no need to use the D-drive. But by now I need the extra space.
How can I use the folders structure in windows XP home (My Documents etc) and put the data on the D-drive.
We work on this computer with several accounts.
I tried to move one folder out of My Documents to the D-drive, but then it can be reached by the other users. Should I use shortcuts towards the D-drive? I hope there is a simple solution.
    Thanks in advance.
(I tried my best to write this in English....)

    Hi
I didnt tried it before but you can try to make your personal folder on D partition. The notebook administrator should set the security settings that can be found under folder properties. Go to Security tab and check all permissions for other users. Choose Deny option for all of them.
I believe that on this way you can use your data folder alone and be sure that other users can not read or execute any of your private data.
Please let me know if it works properly.
    Bye

  • HT3354 how can i use one table for reference to another

how can i use a table for a referance to another eg when i type a word in a cell, i will like it to match the word with another table then return the information in the cell i am using

you can use vlookup() (or any of the lookup family of functions) to locate an item based on a key value:
Here is an example of something you can do with two tables:
The table on the right is title "Data" and stores a list of names with age and favorite color.
The table on the left uses the value in the first column to lookup up information in the table Data
in the table on the left:
    B2=IFERROR(A2&" is " & VLOOKUP(A2, Data :: A:D, 2, 0)&" years old and likes the color "& VLOOKUP(A2, Data :: A:D, 3, 0), "NOT FOUND")
I know this look complicated.  so I'll break it up into smalled pieces:
first the "&" is called the concatenate operator and joins two strings.  like this:
a string is a set of characters between double quotes.
so "string 1" & "string 2" becomes "string 1string2"  or "Sam " & "Jones" becomes "Sam Jones"
you can use cell references instead of strings directly in which case the concatenation is performed on the contents of the cells.
so if cell A1 contains "Hi " and the cell A2 contains "There"  then A1 & A2 will result in "Hi There"
so you could add the formula
    A3=A1 & A2
this is short hand for select cell A3 then type everything including the A3 so that A3 contains "=A1 & A2" (omit the double quote)
OK.  So the formula I provided concatenates several items together:
it concatenates A2, then the string " is " then a formula, then the string " years old and likes the color " then a formula
the two formulas (highlighted in blue) perform a lookup of the value in cell A2 in columns A thru D of the table named "Data".  If if finds the value in cell A2 in the first column of the lookup range in the table Data (column A) then it returns the value from the same row but in the second or third column.
all that is in a function calld iserror() to trap the condition where the calue you enter in A2 does not exist in the table Data:
You will find the Numbers users guide and function reference helpful.  You can download then from Apple here:

  • How to have multiple preference files for Mail on one computer

Since the Mail.app preference file (along with all other application preference files for a user account) is stored in that user's Home folder/directory, I don't believe this is possible.
