How do I close an app?

Aside from the home button...I am guessing that the "closed" app is still running because I can switch to it by either the 4 finger swipe gesture or by double clicking the home button and I see that app listed there. From what I can tell, I have to double click the home button to bring up the task bar and then long press and tap the minus button to close the apps. Other wise, they are still running because I can access them from swiping.

My thoughts are pretty much the same as yours. I see major memory issues with my iPad since the update as well. Safari crashes on me with great frequency and I can see the crash reports and low memory warnings in the diagnostics and Usage Setting.
My keyboard will act the same way that you are describing as well. I have been closing apps on my own and clearing the Safari cookies and data and it still does no good.
The users that are not having these problems suggest restoring the iPad. I've tried that and it still didn't work. I firmly believe that this update is a memory hog on some iPads for reasons that even Apple hasn't figured out yet.
This analysis doesn't help either one of us, but I have seen way too many reports of crashes, apps opening way too slowly, slow responding keyboards and a multitude of other bizarre reports since this update.
I plan on submitting bug reports in hopes that Apple will find a way to resolve all of these memory related issues. I have been saying this since I updated to iOS 5 when it first came out .... The day before I updated my iPad it was working flawlessly and since the update, I have seen some of the weirdest things occurring on my iPad that I have ever seen and I can't seem to find a way to get the iPad back to where it was before the update.

Not all the apps are open. When you double tap the home button that just shows you apps that you have recently used. They are not all open and running.
If you want to clear this list, swipe up on the app screenshot.

  • How do I close an app so that when I restart it, it doesn't just come back with the last screen, i.e. I want to be able to restart the app from new, not a follow-on

How do I close an app/session, such that when I restart it, it doesn't come backat where I left off, e.g. Safari, I want to restart with a new screen, not the one I previously closed from

Depending on how the app is programmed, generally to force close an app, double tap the home button. You'll see the app icons and previews on the screen. Scroll sideways if needed to bring up the app in question. Flick the preview for that app up and off the screen. then single tap the home button or the home page preview to exit the mode
The app should then reboot from closed instead of just reopening

I really do not understand what you mean. You can pause the Podcast and then go to another app. you can also go to the other app and then double click the Home button. Then touch and hold the podcast app/Music app and tap the circled minus sign to stop the podcast. You can also just double click the Home button and go to the music controls and tap pause.

  • HT4623 With the new software update on the iphone, how do I delete a photo and also how do I close open apps so I dont wear battery down

With the new update for iphone, how do I delete a photo and how do I close open apps.  There used to be a delete button to delete a photo and I used to double click on the main phone button and then click on the x to close an app.

Wipe the drive using DiskUtility and download and reinstall Yosemite and set it up as a new Mac. Then purchase the Apps you require with your own Apple ID which you will enter when setting up the new Mac.
    Cheers

How do i close open apps to save my battery using ios7

Double click the home button to bring up the multitask bar, hold one app icon until they all start to shake, hit the little minus icon to close the app. Click on the home button to get back to the home screen again.
In most of the cases deleting the mail account and setting it up again can cure the battery drain. There have been cases in which the mail app got stuck trying to connect to the server over and over again, causing the drain.

Double tap the home button, then when in multitasking view take your index finger and swipe up on a card to completely exit the app. Same goes for safari but instead of swiping up swipe to the left or tap the x icon when you are in the multi page view.

How do I close background apps?

On the iPad (don't know about the iPhone) you can use four or five finger swipe up to access the multitasking screen to close out apps. To use this option you need to turn on Multitasking Gestures in the Settings window:
Saves having to hit the Home button twice...

  • TS3274 how do you close an app before turning your i-pad off?

How do you close an app before turning off your I-Pad?

Thanks so much!  That was exactly the answer I needed.  When my I-Pad froze yesterday, I called an Apple Store near me and spoke with a tech.  He walked me through the steps necessary to unfreeze it.  When I asked what might cause this, he said having too many apps open can be the culprit.  I thought merely shutting my I-Pad off, automatically closed the apps too.  Not so.  He then explained the steps necessary to accomplish this, but I forgot which buttons to push.  He also suggested doing this at the end of every day as one way to avoid the "freeze".  Since I didn't know this little trick, and have had my I-Pad for over a year, I had quite a few apps to close.  So, thanks again and I'll write down the steps this time.
