How do I close the vertical bookmarks listing that is in my browsing window?

How do I close the vertical bookmarks listing that is in my browsing window?

Hi,
Looks like the Bookmarks Sidebar is currently open in your Firefox.
There are 2 ways of closing it:
#There should be a small X mark on the right side of this vertical listing. Just click it and the Sidebar will close.
#Or, you can click on the View menu, select Sidebar, and then select Bookmarks. The Bookmarks sidebar will now close.
Hope this helps.

    Hi Sphericalterm,
Is it the Reading List that you are referring to? Does it look like this:
If that is what it is, you can either click on the little pair of glasses in the upper left-hand corner just below the forward and back arrow keys, or you can click on View then click on Hide Reading List.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I disable the vertical bookmarks menu?

Firefox has begun opening with a vertical menu bar for bookmarks on the left side of the window.
Please tell me how to disable this.

Thank you all for your replies...
    Firefox version is 23.0.1
The vertical bookmarks menu has been opening automatically every time I start a firefox session. Been happening since Labor Day weekend. I'm 99% sure I haven't accidentally opened it by pressing Cntl-B.
When I use bookmarks, I access them through the bookmarks menu button (white star in rectangle)located to the right of the search engine field. I find only that button in the Customize palette.
Pressing f10 opens the Win 8 Second Screen menu, tapping Alt opens the hidden menu.
Now the vertical menu is not opening, and I can't even figure out how to open it to test the 'Alt' button on it. I don't know what caused this!!
This vertical toolbar is especially annoying because it occupies about 20% of the working area of the browser.
Thank you all again for taking time to help!! I greatly appreciate it.

  • How can I restore the "Recent bookmarks" folder that disappeared from within the bookmarks dropdown menu when I deleted a block of entries: firefox 27.0.1 & XP?

Restarting Firefox and rebooting the computer did not help.

    1. Open the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B).
<br>2. On the left, expand the All Bookmarks section.
<br>3. Left-click the Bookmarks Menu folder to select it.
<br>4. On the top toolbar, click the Organize button and choose New Bookmark.
<br>5. Name the bookmark "Recently Bookmarked", and enter the following in the Location field. Change the value of ''maxResults'' if you want more or fewer than 10 items (which is the default).
    <pre><nowiki>place:sort=12&maxResults=10&queryType=1</nowiki></pre>
    6. Either restart Firefox or just open a new window (Ctrl+N) and close the old one.

  • How do I get the favorites/bookmarks list to anchor to the left margin

I can get at the bookmarks/favorites - but cannot get the list to anchor to the left margin. It is a pain to go and look for the list rather than just scroll down the left side. I am sure it is just a matter of clicking on something - but I cannot figure out what.
It must have been a change in a recent update ?
    I have Firefox 4.0.1

Actually, you should have a button on the toolbar with a little white star on it. Clicking that will also open your bookmarks in the sidebar.
If you can't see it, do the following.
Right click a blank part of the Tab Bar and then click Customize. A panel will open and you should be able to find that button in there. Just drag it onto the toolbar along with anything else you want. Similarly, you can remove things you don't want by dragging them in there.
Also, why that panel remains open, you can rearrange the layout to your own taste by dragging elements around.

  • How do I find the to do list that seemed to have disappeared on the right side of my weekly iCal?

I use the weekly page for my iCal as I am a nail tech. I remember a while ago there was a little part on the right side that had a to do list. I can't find it now. All the responses to inquiries about this were a couple of years ago and don't apply to the updated version as of today 5/23/14. There is no "to do" in view or "make a new reminder" or the little thumb tack. Help!
    Thanks,
    Noelle

If you are using Mavericks now, as your signature suggests, Reminders/To Dos are now in the separate Reminders app.

  • How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmark toolbar permanently and delete it from the Recntly Bookmarked list?

It seems to me that in a previous version of Firefox that one could add a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar and have it stay there.
I like to keep things neat and tidy. Now when I delete this bookmark from the Recently Bookmarked list (or the Unsorted Bookmarks list), Firefox insists only deleting it from the Bookmarks Toolbar as well.
How do I add a bookmark to the Bookmarks toolbar and keep it there? Am I required to keep it in the Recently Bookmarked and/or Unsorted Bookmarks list in order to have it remain on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

    * "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
    * Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
    * Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
    * If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
    * If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.

  • How do I close the right side message view in mail

how do I close the right side message view in mail

    Here's how I do that in Yosemite (OS X 10.10) -
Open Mail. Open Mail's Preferences (in the Mail menu in the main menubar). On Mail's Preferences, go to the Viewing tab.
Click (checkmark) the item "Use classic layout". That should change the layout of the window to the old-style over-under arrangement for the mail list and display panes. Then drag the dot in the center divider (the horizontal bar that separates the message list pane from the message display pane) all the way to the bottom of the window so that the bottom pane is closed.
Uncheck the item "Use classic layout". That should result in the 'new' style layout but with only two panes showing - the mailboxes list (if set to show) and the list of messages. The display message window should not be open at this point. If you wish to re-open it, look for a small dot in the right-hand margin of the window, and drag that dot a bit to the left.

  • How do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

how do you sort the safari  "Bookmarks Bar" bookmarks

Here is the workaround for sorting your bookmarks - you don't have to do it manually as suggested in the previous answer here. This is from a 2006 page at Hints.Macworld.com
"One thing that bugs me is that there is no option in Safari to alphabetize bookmarks. I had a crazy idea about how to accomplish this, and it seems to work. Hopefully I'm not missing something more obvious.
What I did was open the Bookmarks window (Bookmarks: Show All Bookmarks), put the links I wanted to alphabetize into a folder, and then dragged that folder into the Finder. The Finder alphabetizes the bookmarks; you can then just drag the folder back into the Bookmarks window. You probably have to set the Finder to arrange files by name before it will work. Hope this helps!
[robg adds: When you drag the folder back, you'll now have two folders, the original and the sorted one. Just delete the original, and you're set. You can also do this without first creating a Safari folder. Just select all the bookmarks to be alphabetized, drag them into a new folder in the Finder, open that folder (make sure it's set to sort by name or use column view), then drag the now-sorted bookmarks back into Safari's Bookmarks window. Again, you'll have duplicates, so just delete the originals (which will be grouped above the newly-placed list). I wonder if any of this is scriptable...]"
If you're like me and you like to keep all of your bookmarks in folders in the Bookmarks bar, then from the Bookmarks window you would open the Bookmarks Bar in a window of its own before doing the above.

See if this gets them back.
Quit Safari completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus  sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
