How do I collapse folders in mail?

I organize my mail into separate folders (e.g - folders for each customer).  I find this to be a great way to find emails for a given customer regardless of the subject line. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way to collapse folders for easy navigation in the mail client on an iPhone.  Is there anyway to collapse folders?

Hi   I put out the same request and so far the answer seems to be that iPad does not have the ability to collapse and expand the folders.....yet.....I hope Apple will get this feature added soon. I have business folders with many clients and sub-folders within them and the list is growing. I use Gmail and it works fine when I'm on my PC, but not with the iPad.

This is very disappointing, and i find it hard to believe that Apple would do this intentionally. It worked on previous versions of email application. Apple please don't dishonor the image of Steve Jobs this way. Fix this right away. I can't think of anything more basic than being able to organize the email that you download into folders. This absolutely ***** ... What a stinker.....
I can't think of anything more idiotic than invoking the memory of Jobs here. Are you truly unaware that the iPad and iOS is pretty much exactly the way he wanted it to be, just like about everything else Apple?
As to your claim of "previous email applications", certainly none in iOS ever did that, and the only folders you can create and manipulate in POP accounts are those local to only that single machine or platform, not particularly helpful or desirable in today's environments.

  • How do I create Folders in Mail?

I recently migrated from Eudora to Mail. In the process I brought some Folders in which I filed mailboxes, in some cases there were folders in folders. All are there well and clear.
How do I create a Folder into whch I can put more sub folders or mailboxes? I cannot find anything other than a Smart Mailbox Folder menu item and there is nothing in the Mail help Viewer
    Tks

At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox.
The following was copied from Mail Help under Creating Mailboxes.
You can create as many mailboxes as you like to file or organize messages you want to keep.
You can create a mailbox that's stored on your computer, one that's stored within a specific account, or a mailbox in an existing mailbox. A mailbox inside another mailbox is called a "subfolder."
If you have an IMAP account, you can store received mail on your computer or on your mail server.
    Choose Mailbox > New Mailbox.
To create a mailbox within an existing mailbox, select the existing mailbox before you choose Mailbox > New Mailbox.
Use the Location pop-up menu to choose the location for the mailbox on your computer or an IMAP account (to store the mailbox on an IMAP server).
Type a name for the mailbox.
    Click OK.
To create a mailbox that contains another mailbox (or subfolder), type the name for the mailbox and the subfolder separated by a forward slash ("/"). For example, if you type "Apple Mail/Apple Newsletters," a mailbox named Apple Mail will be created, with a mailbox named Apple Newsletters inside it. (Note that if you create a mailbox this way, the enclosing mailbox can only contain other mailboxes, not messages. Such mailboxes appear white in the mailboxes list, instead of blue.)

  • How do you create folders in mail in iOS eight?

Can anyone tell me if there a way to create new folders in the mail in IOS 8? I'm not talking about POP or IMAP-I don't know what these are and I don't care. In the previous iOS versions, I have always been able to simply create a new folder. Once again, please don't explain about pop and IMAP. I couldn't care less about these things that I have always gotten by fine without. I just want to create a new folder in my stupid email like I have been doing for the last 15 years.
A simple how to (__>___>__>) would be very highly appreciated. No offense to anyone but I'm really not looking for a long saga or your life story. If you don't know the answer please don't offer me a bunch of suggestions. Thanks a lot.

If the account allows the creation of folders (if it's set up as a POP account on your iPad then you won't be able to create new folders) then go to the screen with the list of folders that you currently have on the account, tap the Edit button at the top right of that list, and you should then get a 'New Mailbox' button at the bottom right of that list - tap that, type in the folder's name, and select where you want it to go.

  • How do I make folders in mail on iPad 3?

I am helping a friend create folders in their mail app on their iPad 3, and can't figure out how. I saw an iPad 3 in the store with folders created, and can't duplicate that for my friend.

You can create folders, or additional mailboxes in the mail App if your email account is an IMAP account.
If you go to your email account in the Mail app and look at the window where your inbox, trash folder and sent folder are - if there is an Edit button at the top of the window - tap that and then tap Add Mailbox at the bottom.
If the Edit button is not there - you cannot create folders on the iPad. Your email account is not IMAP. Only IMAP email accounts can create folders on the iPad. Any folders that you would already have in an IMAP account would sync to the device as well.

  • How do I create folders for mail stationary and organize my stationary?

I would like to add more folders to my stationary and organize it better. I bought some additional stationary from the App store but there is 146 templates all under one folder named custom. I know how to make the folder in application support>apple>mail>stationary>....but I do not know how to move the stationary from the custom folder to the newly created folders. Thanks

application support>apple>mail>stationary>Apple>Contents>Resources>then all the preloaded folders show up.
If i click and drap the only option it gives me is to drag it to favorites.

  • How can I add folders to mail, using Hotmail?

So, I just registered my hotmail to sync, but it only shows the inbox folder.
I would like it to work just like it does with my iphone 4s or iPad 3 (all my registered mails show the original folders of the mails).
I have already tried using Microsft Exchange account, but it asks me for a Server Adress which I doesn't know.
    Any help would be great!

actualy dont dowload Mbox from Fluent Factory, very poor app..... sorry but I've tried and there will never be any support from them when you need to.
but the good thing is that Hotmail and Outlook.com finally rolled out support for IMAP.
    Incoming Mail Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app
No more duplication issues once you switch over, and no need for a third party (mBox)software to bridge the missing feature gap.

  • I am using POP mail account and want to know how to set up folders in mail..?

I am using my iPad 2 to check emails. I want to save some in another folder, however I am unable to do so...! Any suggestions on setting up extra folders for POP email accounts?

Hi Matt, Thank you for getting back to me. I thought as much after reading that only IMAP (ie my Gmail Account) may be able to have folders. The only problem is that my Primary email account is POP and have had it for more that fifteen years plus, and the Gmail account is more for backup and for MobileMe/iCloud.......! Disappointed though, as I thought the iPad2  would replace my laptop (not my desktop) at least......! Cheers, Paul.

  • How do I add folders to mail in iCloud?

I press the add icon but it doesn't owrk.

If you are on iOS 5+ and it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account then you won't get the Edit button, and you are limited to the folders that you already have.

  • How does one add folders to Mail?  Kindly advise

Please refer to the subject line.

Yes, the iPhone is the most awesome piece of hardware I've ever touched but boy is it missing a lot of very basic stuff. No copy / paste, no filters in email, no folders, no way to add contacts to groups, no way to send pictures to other phones. Hopefully they will get some of this stuff fixed soon because its a real problem if you are going to be trying to compete with the black berry's out there.
