How do I combine 2 media folders

I'm looking for a way to combine 2 media folders, from 2 separate computers, to one new computer.  2 systems were used to work with one iPod, so I have 2 media folders that I need to combine.  Is there a way to get this done in iTunes?  I prefer not to try 3rd party programs.  I am also not very concerned with play counts, if it's a pain to move those.  My main concern is just getting all of the music on one computer and in one media folder.  The new system is Win 7.  I have moved the main folder over to the new system already.  Now I just need to move this other to the new and combine them.  Networking is not a possibility right now, but I do have an external drive that I can use.  Hopefully, this makes sense.
Can it be as easy as copying the media folder to the external drive and then using File --> Add Folder on the new system?  I am using iTunes 10.5.2.11.
Thanks.

I wish to combine the second folder User/Music/iTunes with the first one ie: User/iTunes.

  • How do i combine two folders with some of the same music?

How do I combine two music folders (one is on my pc, the other is on my external HD). The external HD is for back up, but I have since added 7gb of music on my PC. I want to add the 7gb to my external HD, but not sure exactly what songs/artist I need to move. Short of going folder by folder to copy and drag, is there an easier way to combine the folders with out doubling up what is in both spots?

IF you are going from PC to external then drag the whole library to the external drive and andwer no when asked if you want to copy over existing files. That's how I do it. No duplication and only the new songs actually copy.

  • How can I combine two iTunes media folders without losing media?

I have two media folders.  One on an external drive that I used on an old PC before migrating to a new one, and my internal HDD on the new PC.  My internal drive became nearly full so I had to start using my external drive and iTunes media folder again.  So, right now iTunes looks to my internal drive for most of the media and my external drive for some of it.  Now, I need to move all the media files back to the external drive and, hopefully, in one place.  The primary challenge is that I don't know how to move the media files (and metadata) efficiently.  I just don't know which folders have been affected and so a standard copy -> paste won't work because the PC will try to overwrite the folders and I have no idea which ones can be overwritten and which can't.  Ugh...does this make sense?  Thank you!!!

    Hi there theskyisblue,
You can indeed switch between two different iTunes libraries, and this article outlines how:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of these screens:

  • How do I consolidate two separate iTunes Media folders?

Apparently I have to separate iTunes Media folders. There is the one in the default location ( folder named "iTunes Media" in ~/Music/iTunes/ where the tilde "~" represents your home directory.) and one on my external harddrive. They BOTH have updates in varying folders.
At one point I moved my folder to the external drive, and thought I kept everything consolidated. When looking at the Advanced Preferences window (iTunes/Preferences/Advanced) it has my Media Folder location in the correct place, the external drive.
BUT I apparently have still be downloading SOME podcasts, mobile apps, and a couple of other things into an iTunes media folder in it's original / default location.
I have no idea why the original folder is there or how long I've been adding files to this dual media nightmare.
I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way to combine the two files.
Can I drag and drop the contents of folders from the default media into the external media? Or do I have to worry abut iTunes knowing where to look for these files? Why do I still have some podcasts and apps downloading into the default folder and some downloading into the external one?
I REALLY dont want to start over and deal with rebuilding my iTunes Media, because I know I'll loose lots of data or end up with tons of duplicates (it happened once before when switching between harddrives).
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hello Q-too_cool
I would start with checking out the article that talked about dealing with multiple devices on one computer. That is going to be the best way to have two accounts on one computer.

  • How can I combine two "My ITunes Folders"

I have been reading the discussion forums for weeks but have not found a solution to my problem and was hoping someone might be able to help. Here is my situation.
    Background:
I have a large collection of CD’s that I wanted to import into itunes. Looking at the prospect of importing approx 4,000 cd’s I decided to “divide and conquer”. My wife took half and I took half and we each proceeded to import the cd’s onto our respective PC’s. Unfortunately when he “met in the middle” we didn’t realize it and we each proceeded to import cd’s that the other had already done (i.e. when comparing our music folders there are some duplicates).
    Problem:
The real question I am trying to get answered is how I can combine the two separate itunes music folders into one. I would like to combine the two folders and then have one itunes music folder that I can import into itunes.
Any Suggestions? We used iTunes to organize the folders so they use the same “artist, album, song” hierarchy.

    Try this -> syncOtunes

  • Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Is this one of those CDs where the main artist asks their friend to sing a song with them?
Such as, Slash's new album. Track 1 is "Slash Feat. Ian Astbury", track 2 is "Slash Feat. Ozzy Osbourne" and so on.
To fix this, select all the tracks on that album, right-click > Get Info, and say YES to changing multiple items.
Put "Slash" in the *Album Artist* field (for this example, of course).
Make sure it is the *Album Artist* field, not the plain Artist field.

  • Two media folders -- how to consolidate?

    Hi,
I am using iTunes 10.5.1.42, Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
I noticed this morning that I have two iTunes media folders:
    C:\Users\my_username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    C:\Users\my_username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
    Both folders contain:
    Automatically add to iTunes
    Books
    Mobile Applications
    Music
The \...\iTunes Music folder also contains a folder called Podcasts which is empty.
Most of my music is in \...\iTunes Media, but some of it is in \...\iTunes Music.  Also, both Mobile Applications folders contain apps for my iPhone, but they don't have the same number of apps.
Preferences > Advances > iTunes Media folder location shows: C:\Users\my_username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media.  "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder..." are both checked.  Note that the top folder is My Music, but in iTunes Preferences it's just Music.  It seems that iTunes sees both -- My Music and Music as the same thing.  iTunes also looks in both iTunes Media and iTunes Music since all of my music is displayed in iTunes and on my iPhone.
I would like to consolidate the iTunes Media folder and the iTunes Music folder into one, but I want to be sure I do it correctly so iTunes continues to see everything and syncing with my iPhone continues to work correctly.  Note that I have not enabled iCloud and I only use one device, my iPhone.
I think I can simply copy everything from iTunes Music to iTunes Media (since Media is what's showing in Preferences).  Does that sound right?
    Thanks for any help.
    John

    Hi Tom,
Do you have the iTunes Preference set as shown here? Keep iTunes Media folder organized?
Or have you tried File > Library > Organize Library from the iTunes menu?

  • How do you combine artists and albums in itunes?

I just recently bought an iPod classic and am now using iTunes to edit my prolific library of music so that I can put it on my iPod.  I have much editing to do of songs, artists, albums, etc.  I am finding that some of my songs are broken up from the album they should be on, and yet the name of the album is the same and it still appears separate from the main album.  I also have some artists who are broken up as well, even though they have the same name.  How can I combine artists, albums, etc into one file?  I want all the songs from an album to be under one album and all albums to be under one artist, not two with the same name.  This was very easy to do in Windows Media Player but can't figure out how to combine songs to one album or combine artists to show up once under one file.  HELP!

If you are on a PC and want to sync photos to the iPhone this is how you do it. First, create a folder and place the pictures that you want on the iPhone in that folder. You can copy them, or move them into that folder, whichever. Once you connect the iPhone to iTunes, from the Summary screen, click on the tab for photos. In that section, tell iTunes what folder you want to sync to the phone. It is better to make the folder you want to sync in "My Pictures" that is located in the "My Documents" folder. iTunes automatically looks at the "My Pictures" folder and can sync all photos, or you can choose particular folders. I have a folder called iPhone pictures that is in the My Pictures folder, and I tell iTunes to sync just that particular folder.
    Hope that helps you.

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

  • How do I combine an old account with a new one on iTunes?

I have 2 email accounts set up with itunes.  My first email account was hacked and I had to create a new account.  How do I combine the songs listed under my old address with the songs listed under my new email address?

I'm looking for those folders and Im not sure how to look for the tracks that are on the other account if I have my current account pulled up.
    Klovick,
If you have the track in your iTunes library, you can see where the song file is by right-clicking the library entry and choosing "Show in Finder."
Once you locate a couple of the song files, you should be able to suss out the folder structure where they are all residing.

  • How do I combine an iTunes library on an external hard drive (laptop) with an iTunes library on an external hard drive on my PC?

How can I combine the iTunes library on an external hard drive (hooked to laptop) with  the iTunes library on an external hard drive (hooked to PC) so that both external HD's and both laptop and PC have all the music on each one?

no need to create a secondary library - too troublesome, IMHO. you can spread your library over as many drives you can connect to your Mac (wired or wirelessly):
    iTunes > preferences > advanced.
point iTunes media folder location to the external
on the same tab, ensure the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked
    okay out of preferences
highlight the content to be moved in iTunes and right-click
select consolidate files from the pop-up menu
wait for the process to finish
when done, you may delete the original files from your boot drive.
alternatively, you could move the whole shabang to the external HD:
copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music to the external, launch iTunes while holding the option(⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the external.
when done, be sure to point iTunes media folder location to the external so that new additions to your library will be put there. also, you need to make sure the external is mounted on your desktop before you fire up iTunes.

  • How do you retrieve iTunes media from many locations to one file

    I have all Mac devices.
The particular item I have a question about is my itunes media file.
Since I have a very large collection, I was advised by apple support to move my Itunes Media folder to the 1.5T wireless WD hard drive I have.
All was going well, until either itunes update occurred or my Macbook Pro OSx had updated that is when I started to notice I have many, many itunes media folders and I want and need to know how to stop this default from occuring and the hardest part is to accumulate all my media that is in itunes media files many on my MacBook Pro in subfolders and on my WD wireless Hard drive that essentially has done the same.
It has produced most cases many, many copies of each of media, and due to the many places that the media got switched to, some items need to be located to play.  Especially Movies.  None of the data is on cell phone, ipad or icloud.  It is mainly conflicts somewhere from files on my Macbook Pro and what is on my WD wireless hard drive. (I only save media on this hard drive)
I have attempted to organize itunes, but it seems to perpetuate the problem.
Is there anyone who knows the best way to find and consolidate media for itunes and place it in one folder.  Is there some App out there that deals ONLY with itunes media consolidating?
    Thanks,
    Tina C.

    What do you mean "retrieve"?
If you mean previously purchased music, then you cannot, unless you are in the U.S. Then you can use the recently released icloud ( beta version).
    Tap itunes, then tap purchasd
