How do I combine all my libraries? can I get it from my iPod?

My hard drive crashed, but before it did, I had backed up all my music on my iPod and was able to put all the user data from my computer on an external hard drive. I got a new hard drive, updated the OS and get a newer iLife (08). I dragged over the user info onto the new hard drive and everything is now working fine. However, iTunes does not know which library to use, and when I open iTunes, it prompts me to tell it which library to use. There are several partitioned and damaged iTunes libraries in my music folder - all varying in size, but I don't see anything close to the size it should be for the library I had built. These are my questions:
1. Can I combine the libraries that I see in my user folder? If so, does iTunes recognize duplicate songs when combining libraries or will there be several duplicates in the combined library?
2. If these libraries do not contain all of my songs as suspected, can I bring my songs back onto iTunes from my iPod? If so, how can I do this?
Thank you for your help!

iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

You have your mute button on.  In Settings check to see if you have Lock Orientation checked or Mute checked on the right hand side.  If you have Mute checked, all you need to do is click the mute button above the volume control buttons on the upper right hand side of your iPad.  If you have Lock Orientation checked in settings, you double click your home button and the most recent apps will appear.  Swipe your finger to the right until the Mute icon appears on the left side.  Touch it and you will unmute system sounds.

How can i get music on my ipod nano to my iphone 4s?

iPods (except iPod touch which is really an iPhone minus the phone) only sync with your computer running iTunes.  So it needs to go through the computer.
Since you loaded the iPod from your computer's iTunes library, you can just load the same songs from your iTunes library to the iPad.

  • How can i get songs from my ipod to a new playlist?

can i not just drag and drop a song from my ipod to the title of the new playlist? it wont let me...so can you tell me how?
    dell   Windows XP

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. Hope this helps.

  • How can I get songs from my iPod onto my computer?

I had to re-install windows on my computer about a week ago. I was under the impression that I could get my music and playlists back just by pluging my iPod into my computer and then i thought the ipod would snyc with itunes and put all of my music back onto the computer along with my playlists. However, i can't seem to get this to work... any help? I think i've heard of ways to just rip the music off, but what i would really like are the playlists that i had as well...

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

  • 2 Ipod with different Itunes accounts...can't get music from other ipod

I tried finding a similar thread but no luck....
My boyfriend has an Ipod and an Itunes account w/his old computer, which he no longer has. I have an Ipod shuffle that I have an Itunes account on my own pc. Whenever I plug in his Ipod to my pc to read/upload music it says his ipod is already linked to another Itunes account. If I chose to sync his ipod he will lose all his music? Is this true? Also whenever I plug in his ipod it recognizes it but does not show any of his music? Is this normal? I just want to be able to access his music on my pc?? Any advice will help?

There is a chance everything will go. If nothing is seen from his iPod on your iTunes then I don't believe anything is on it anyway. Usually you can still see the files, but are unable to play them.

  • Can't get songs from my iPod into the library on my new mac

I recently had to get a new hard-drive on my dell laptop, and iTunes was uninstalled from the computer. When I re-installed iTunes, my iPod was not being recognized by the laptop, so none of my songs on my iPod were in the library anymore.
Now I have a new MacBook, and my iPod is being recognized, but I can't get most of my songs from my iPod into the library in iTunes.
I'm sure there is an easy solution, but I can't figure it out!
    Any help is much appreciated!!!

  • Can't get stuff from my ipod onto my itunes library

I had an old desktop and it filled up with memory so i got a laptop and when i tried to put my apps on the computer and clicked transfer purchases all it did was sync nothing. i've tried this a few times and i never works. i also tried selecting manually manage music and videos, and then closed out itunes, unpluged my ipod, then went back to itunes, pluged in my ipod BUT STILL NOTHING!!!!! someone pleas help computernerd123 (who sometimes is not so much a computer nerd)
    Thank you,
    Computernerd123

I suspect what you are trying to do is have the music that is in your iPod move into your new computer.
This is not allowed by Apple as it would lead to people copying other people's iPods instead of buying the music.
That being said, think of the iPod as an external hard disk drive and "manage" the files and folders as you see fit.
Your applications, those on your iPod, are also registered at the Apple Store. When you authorize your new install of iTunes and sync your iPod, the applications will return to both places... on your computer and in your iPod.
If this in an iPod you purchased with music already on it, just enjoy the thing and read the manual about digital rights management.
I'm sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear. Moving the music from an iPod to a computer is not supported in the iTunes program.

  • How can I get music from my ipod to iTunes?

I have a tablet through work (Lenovo x61).  Our IT group had to wipe the tablet for some new software, so I made sure I had all of my music on my itouch.  Now that I've gotten the tablet back, I'd like to take all of that music (some of it not purchased through iTunes), and put it back on the computer.  I've downloaded iTunes, I've authorized the computer, and I've signed in to my account - but I can't drag the music into the iTunes library and I can't seem to find by looking at my itouch "files" through Windows.  Any suggestions for copying my music onto the tablet/iTunes?  I'd like to be able to stream my music when my husband is using the iTouch for other things (Yetitown!)

  • HT203167 lost my hard drive how can i get songs from ipod back to new computer

I lost my hard drive and want to get my music back on my new computer. How can I get songs from my ipod to my computer? I am afraid to sync it and losing what is on my ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
