How do I combine an iTunes library on an external hard drive (laptop) with an iTunes library on an external hard drive on my PC?

How can I combine the iTunes library on an external hard drive (hooked to laptop) with  the iTunes library on an external hard drive (hooked to PC) so that both external HD's and both laptop and PC have all the music on each one?

no need to create a secondary library - too troublesome, IMHO. you can spread your library over as many drives you can connect to your Mac (wired or wirelessly):
iTunes > preferences > advanced.
point iTunes media folder location to the external
on the same tab, ensure the copy files ... when adding option is checkmarked
okay out of preferences
highlight the content to be moved in iTunes and right-click
select consolidate files from the pop-up menu
wait for the process to finish
when done, you may delete the original files from your boot drive.
alternatively, you could move the whole shabang to the external HD:
copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music to the external, launch iTunes while holding the option(⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the external.
when done, be sure to point iTunes media folder location to the external so that new additions to your library will be put there. also, you need to make sure the external is mounted on your desktop before you fire up iTunes.

hi my laptop with my itunes lubrary has crashed so i got a new one but i dont want to sync my iphone to the new laptop incase i lose all my songs on my iphone. how do i sync to a new one without losing everything

The right way is to restore the backup that you kept of your old computer onto your new one. If it is too late for that before you do anything set up a backup process for the new one so when it crashes (note I said "when", not "if") you won't be faced with this problem again.
In lieu of that the apps already mentioned will help you get content off the phone if it was not purchased from iTunes. But it it WAS purchased from iTunes just connect the phone to your new computer, Authorize iTunes on the new computer and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes file menu.

Hey, I'm trying to authorize my new laptop with my iTunes account. How would I go about doing this?

    Hi Michael1296,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps to authorize a computer in iTunes:
How do I authorize a computer?
Open iTunes on the computer you want to authorize.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You might need to show the menu barto see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still use it to authorize your computer.
If iTunes asks you to authorize your computer again, it won't use a new authorization. iTunes uses the same authorization for the same computer.
You can find these steps and more information at this link:
    Authorize your computer using iTunes
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Broken laptop with my itunes!

    Hi,
Im having a problem! I have broken my laptop with my itunes on it and now i got myself a new laptop and im wondering how or is it possible to re download all my itunes data? would be a great help thank you.

ohh srry used to talking like that at work but. when i mean flash it over. im talking about a flash drive. and just copy pasting it over into the folder you want.(u have direct connnect cables so theres no point to that lol).
umm as to it sorting itself out if the data isnt corrupted at all and you are using the same or newer ver. of itunes it should just put your library right back to the way it was on your other computer. if the itunes ver. is the same or newed than you will get a library error saying that the library was created by a newer ver. of itunes.
however if the data is corrupted ripping the music off from itune's media folder would be best. then just reload it. itune's media folder should be in the "my music" folder given you didn't change the name of the folder. if u still cannot find the files you are looking for. and u want to be safe then just type "iTunes Media" (no quotes) into your search bar when you have your old harddrive selected and it will auto find. though i hate doing it because windows search function works as fast as a legless horse...im very impatient and i can usually search through like every file in my computer before it finds anything even related to itunes lol.
umm yea should work lol.... mabey the clone just didn't copy that certain folder properly. after cloning i always reinstall all my more advanced programs. (not that itunes is advanced lolol)
so if you haven't gotten accostumed to your itunes library to much just replacing the folder with your old one could work (can always back up your old one so no harm in trying.) as long as u keep two of everything. than just screw around with it. you won't screw up any system files just by moving around libraries. might screw up your playlists but thats not that much of a loss unless you have like 100 gigs of music and each playlist sorts like different genres..(idk who would do this but eh someone mighta been bored enough at one point.)

But then I encountered another problem as attempting to sync my computer to my ipad i still received the same notification that it was not authorized so I really would not know how to rectify that so any assistance would be appreciated,
    Thanks John
I was under the impression that once you had authorised the computer, transferring purchased and other songs to your iPod/iPad wasa then straightforward. However it gets more complicated with apps, and as I don't have an iOS device I can't advise. You've actually asked in the forum for questions about these forums, and you would do better to ask in the iPad forum, where people who actually have these toys hang out.

No. If you connect his phone to your iTunes account/computer, ALL iTunes content on his phone will be erased. By design, iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE computer at a time.

How I can set up the DynDns inside the Time capsule, or only with the Time capsule I have external access from a PC for ex.?

MobileMe service is finished.. to get remote access to the Mac or TC you use iCloud account.. but that is for files.. not to access web cams.
Without dyndns client in the TC, you can perhaps run dyndns on the computer or video recorder..many of these will have clients built into them.
Even better get a static Public IP from your ISP.. that is the correct professional way to do it.
Or you can use whatever broadband modem you have and remove the TC as the main router.. simply bridge it. Use your adsl router for connection. Almost all adsl have built in dyndns.
Sorry your language is very hard to follow.. and I am sure you are finding my answers similarly difficult.
Basically the TC is about the hardest device to setup because it is lacking important networking functions.
Get a vpn router and use vpn connection is far superior to any other method. But you cannot do it with TC.

  • One iTunes libary (i.e. music files, etc.) with several iTunes library files.

I have a single iTunes library accessed by two separate iTunes library files (two separate accounts on my iMac, each with its own .itl pointing to the same files). The problem is that iTunes does not provide any way to keep the content of the actual library in sync. In other words, I may add new music using one account, but that music will not be accessible using the other account. Most of the music I add is ripped from CD, and I have a large library, so iCloud wouldn't do the job for me. I need to maintain separate metadata and .itl files.
Does anyone have a suggestion of how to go about this, either wonkily with iTunes, or using additional applications?
    Thanks.

I recently experienced a similar situation. I was moving my iTunes Library to an external HD in order to free up space on my Mac's HD. I originally used finder and clicked dragged files from one location to another. Unfortunately it created a big mess and I was freaking out thinking I had lost a big portion of iTunes Library.. about 1/3 and I have approximately 18 days of continuous music in Library. I put
Library back to original location and then imported as Thick stated. However, not all files were transfered to location and when attempted to play I received message stating unable to play because file is not in it's original location would you like to locate file. For those files I used search to locate and all missing music was in same file so I went into music file and highlighted every song in an album that iTunes could not locate then double clicked and music files were sent to location of music folder specified in iTunes Preferences. For single songs and Videos I clicked yes when prompted by iTunes asking if I wanted to locate file, then double clicked file and it was sent to Library location specified in ITunes Preferences. There might have been an easier way to accomplish the task but all I was concerned with was moving library and not losing... although if you are using Time Machine to backup library you can always restore.... In all I lost one album... and my MAC's HD now has an
200 GB of memory available, my music and pics are on a External 1TB HD and Time Machine
is backing my Music and Pictures files up..... I also deleted backups from Time Machine to free up
space.... Good Luck and hope you get what you want accomplished.....
