How do I completely clear my finder/computer of all files?

I am looking to reorganize my computer. I want to delete everything on my finder/computer, restoring from my time machine backup files one by one.

Get an ext FWHD, large enough to accommodate your projects, copy them to the ext HD, point your graphics programs to use those, and once you're convinced that it works like you want to, erase those from your int HD.

Finder not displaying all files in remote directory

Sorry, this is a repost as I have gotten no response from my original request here: Finder not displaying all files in remote directory
I've exported pictures from iPhoto on my iMac to a shared directory on my mac mini. When I access that directory from my iMac, I can see some but not all of the pictures. I know the pictures exported properly because I can see them all from the mac mini. I can open up a terminal window on my iMac and see all of the files; I can also open those files from the terminal.
I'm running OSX 10.9.4 on both computers, with the mac mini also running OSX Server. I've placed a screen grab below from my iMac of what Finder sees vs what I can see from the terminal.
Why isn't Finder displaying all of my files?

Adding a new file to the shared folder results in me being able to see the new file from my clients regardless of where it was added from, however the "hidden" files do not suddenly pop up.
I tried a few more experiments that had interesting results, but still didn't lead me to an answer.
First I tried copying the files from the remote directory to a local directory; I did this in 2 different ways and had different results. Method A) I copied files from the mounted share to a local dir: "cp /Volumes/MyShare/dir/*.JPG .". Method B) I copied the files using secure copy: "scp user@server:/path/to/dir/*.JPG .".
Method A resulted in Finder not being able to see the files in the local directory, while Method B did. This was interesting and lead me to suspect an issue with the way I am sharing the directory on the server. From Server settings I have both afp and smb checked. I tried enabling only one or the other and reconnecting; but this did not fix the problem.
Next I tried exporting the photos from iPhoto again. Exporting them locally results in files that Finder can see. Exporting them to my server results the same bad behavior
Getting desperate, I also tried renaming all of the files from "*.JPG" to "*.jpg" but this didn't help.
One last experiment, I see the same behavior from both another Mac and a PC on my local network... FTP works fine.
Any more ideas?

Finder Not Showing All Files in Folder?

I have had this happen to me in Tiger before but in the past week or so I have come across two instances where Finder is not displaying all the files in a folder. On the first occurrence, I was moving files over from a samba share and for some reason Finder was not reading a few music files. Thus, those files did not get moved over, and just now I was reviewing some bank statements and one of the PDF statements I saved yesterday did not appear until I did a "killall Finder" in Terminal. Has anyone else experienced this? This seems to be a serious flaw that could bring about data loss issues.

Apple Inc. on Monday continued to pound away at its first maintenance and security update to the recently released Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, issuing a new test build to developers that fixes the much publicized Finder data loss issue.
People familiar with the ongoing testing process for Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update say the new build, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.1 build 9B16, was accompanied by a note to developers that specifically mentions a Finder-related fix affecting files that are moved between directories.
It was widely reported earlier this month that Leopard's Finder is affected by a glaring bug in its directory-moving code, which could lead to horrendous data loss if a destination volume disappears while a move operation is in progress.
Those people familiar with pre-release builds of Mac OS X 10.5.1 also added that the software update will deliver an enhancement to Leopard that will allow Apple's Software Update and installer applications to make revisions to application files which may have been moved outside their designated "Applications" directory on Leopard volumes.
As was the case with build 9B13, which was released for private testing last Monday, Apple is reportedly asking that its developers test the latest build broadly, paying particular attention to Time Machine, Mail, iCal, Back To My Mac, Bonjour, AirPort, gaming graphics, networking and the Finder.
Mac OS X 10.5.1 is expected to be released as a free update within a few weeks' time.

Find and sort all files in folder without invisible files

Hi all,
I am trying to check whether the newest file added to a folder is an HTML file. In theory the folder should be empty when a new file is added because the script will delete all files in the folder just before it finishes running.
However, I am having a problem with .DS_Store files being created automatically in the folder. When Finder accesses the folder it creates a new .DS_Store file and thus the newest file added to the folder is never an HTML file.
I believe that the command "without invisibles" could help me with this problem. However, I have not been able to implement this successfully. I would appreciate if someone could please point me in the right direction. Here is what I have so far.

          set sortedFiles to reverse of (sort (files of thisFolder) by modification date) as alias list
          set newestFile to item 1 of sortedFiles
-- check if newestFile is an HTML file
-- read file and send contents to another application

Errr... A quick reality check is called for. If you make files visible to the finder then they are no longer invisible files, so ignoring invisible files won't help you one bit. your best bet is to do a manual check for a file that starts with a "." (which would normally be invisible):

How do I completely clear my macbook pro to sell it if it didn't come with any disks and will that erase microsoft office?

I would like to sell my macbook and I was wondering how to clear it as if it were new without erasing microsoft office and allowing the new owner to set it up without needing to be in an apple store.

When you erase the disk, Office will be deleted.
1. Press Command, Option and R keys while your computer is starting.
2. Open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD and erase the drive.

How to transfer Garage Band to new computer with all selfmade stuff

I just got myself a new macbook pro with of course garage band preinstalled.
I transfered all my .band projects from my old macbook and the loops i made too.
i put the loops in the same directory as they were on my old macbook hd/library/audio/apple loops/user loops/ but garage band didn't find them so i manually mooved them into the loop browser in garage band.
only problem: i have to mark them all as favorites again and whenever i open an old .band project for the first time gb has to search for each one again.
can you tell me how to do it better next time?
but now to the more important and current problem:
where do i find my selfmade software instruments on my old macbook and where do i have to put them on my new one?
and is there anything else i might need from my old gb that i didn't think of?

The best way would have been to use the Migration Assistant - it would have moved your whole user folder and your personal stuff over to the new computer.
About the instruments: There could be two Instrument Library folders, under HD/Library/Application Support/GarageBand and User/Library/Application Support/GarageBand (depending on whether you made the instruments available to all users.) If the other GB is a standard installation of the same version, you can just replace the folders on the new computer with the ones from the old machine, and all your instruments should be there. (The "if" refers to the fact that by doing this you lose all custom instruments you might have made on the new computer.)

ok, i have LOTS of music and i perfer to start over when i get a new device so i would like to get music from my old ipad to my new one without using auto downloads and all that. i have more people on my account so it doesn't work anyway. the real question is how do i create a playlist or a smart playlist on my computer that includes all the songs from one of my ipod devices. that way i could have a playlist on my computer for every device to keep it organized for playing music atleast.

Ok i got it figured out. since i had all the music on my computer it was just the fact of what i wanted. i went to my old ipad and created a playlist of ALL the songs then went into itunes right clicked that play list and exported it as a txt to my desktop. i then in itunes clicked flie>library>import playlist. selected that txt document and it imported to itunes library. i was then able to select all the songs in that play list and transfer them to my new ipad.

How do i find and move all files across multiple disks

I just purchased a 2010 Mac Pro and wanted to set it up with a clean install of Mavericks. I installed a new SSD as my boot disk and did a clean install of Mavericks on it. All good so far.
Now from my previous Macs I have several disks (internal and external) that have pictures, music and movies spread all over the place.
I want to know how I can search all of the drives for all of a specific file type (i.e, JPEG or MP3) and then move those files to a new folder. Once I have all of the files of a specific type in a single folder I can create a new library in iPhoto or iTunes using those files.
I tried AraxisFDF and it worked well for finding the files but when it moves the files it saves then in their original file structure (i.e, volume/folder/folder/folder/file) which places the files in multiple folders again.
Any ideas?

You can clone the respective HDDs using Disk Utility>Restore or Carbon Copy Cloner. That will guarantee that you have all images and movies backed up.

How to automatically complete an SD Contract when not all quantity is used

Hi,
I have a situation where it often happens that not all the quantity in an SD Quantity Contract is used in Sales Orders. When this happens, currently the business users have to go into the Contract, and amend the quantity in order to complete it. I am looking for a way to configure SAP so that these Contracts will automatically move to Complete Status when a certain percentage of the quantity has been used.
I have tried Completion Rules B and C on a new Item Category (copied from KMN). When I select B the Contract is marked as complete after the first Sales Order is raised, regardless of the quantity. When I select C the Contract does not mark as complete. both times I set up a Contract for 100KG, then Ordered 98KG. I tried amending the under-delivery tolerances on the Customer Master and it had no effect.
I have searched the SD Forums, looked on SAP Support Marketplace, and tried Google - but I can't find anything that describes my situation. Can someone out there advise?

I don't think this can be achieved in SAP std.
You have to go for custom development in ABAP . You can achieve this through userexit MV45AFZZ. The code will be executed when saving the subsequent sales document i.e. Sales order. Once the said percentage is achieved this code will set the status of contract as referenced.

Yeah no kidding.
I have a big paid up MobileMe account with tons of gallery stuff - this will all go away for me in July, and I'll miss it - it took no learning to use, and it was built into everything - just intuitive to post to a gallery password protect it, and send a link to a friend. Click click done!
It bothers me a lot when features I really enjoy and use are pulled in these half baked new apps and services.
iMovie used to be quite good, but the new one is very restrictive - it's a step backwards in some ways.
MobileMe was fine, but iCloud takes away the Gallery???? - another step backward.
We use some iPhones at work for shooting some videos and technical engineering photo's, and while it's pretty cool that the iPhone photo's get put on the photostream of "Jason's iMac", I don't have instant access, and I would really like to be able to do that. If it could be done, then I can stay at home and work sometimes and I can get the photo's automagically.

Firefox 4 has completely messed up my computer,lost all my bookmarks, and cannot replace them, Tried reinstalling 3-6-13, but they have all gone. It has ruined my browser.

Installed 4, but it will not work or display opening page. Reinstalled 3-6-13,but the bookmarks toolbar has gone, replaced by sidebar, but it will not accept new bookmarks and will not sync with my other computers bookmarks. I am not an expert deeply regret installing 4, have spent six hours trying to sort it out. Even system restore will not recover the original bookmarks.

There are two folders: in the original account main /Users folder there is an icon of a house and a shared folder.
In the new admin account, there is the same thing.
I do not have a backup, but I can eaisly backup all of my important data by just dragging the user folder onto an external harddrive.
Yes, I did log out of the old account & into a new admin one.
Other facts: I cannot create folders in the original (old) account. For both accounts, I cannot access any programs, except for safari and ones that I come with the computer. For example, I cannot open Chrome or Word. Safari sometimes pops open a window that says I have the wrong keychain. This does not happen all the time, so I do not know exactly what the message said, something about keychains.
Also, when I click on the house in the User folder, I find that my old user folder is inside of it (that's where I can access all of my old documents). The old user folder has the old username that I tried changing (which started this whole mess)

Using something like myTexframe.contents = '' will only remove the visible text bounded by the frame and not any overflow. I need to empty the frame completely. Thanks.

Wiped computer, lost all files, have it on my itouch, how do do get it back

I have a HP computer. I got an itouch that I have synced all my songs and pictures onto and one day the power went out and my hp stoped working. I was told I needed to wipe the computer clean and put it back to factory settings. I lost everything. I was told I was able to retreave all the songs I bought over itunes store but am unable to get it. I have authorised my hp and my new macbook for the library gone up to file and hit transferd purchese and it says that its not authorized. so I follow the derections to authrize it again and it says it is. and its jut a big circle that doesnt get me anyware. I've spent well over $200 on these songs and I want them back. Please help!

No I was unaware that I needed to back up my computer until after this situation it was my first computer and I was not well informed. Thank you for the link I tried to do all that was suggested and still have not resolved my issue. It says that I'm authorized but wont let me see the purchased items nor will it let me transfer purchases from my itouch.
