How do I COMPLETELY power down iPhone 3G while charging?

I charge the iPhone 3G by plugging it into a wall outlet and leaving it overnight. I thought I can completely shut it down by holding down the power button, then doing the "slide to power off" maneuver, and the screen goes black. However, at seemingly arbitrary times the screen lights up with (usually) the main App screen. If I haven't turned the sound off, it will also beep. Note that I do not have any alarms set for the clock, iCal, or To-Do's that might account for it waking up. Besides, if the device is powered down, no alarm should wake it up, right?

It sounds like it is not powering off for some reason. When it is off, nothing should activate the phone until you power it back on.

Csoud1 is correct. But if you still want to keep your iTunes Match subscribed and did not want to sync with your iOS devices, do the following:
On you iOS devices, just go to Setting > Music > disable iTunes Match

  • How do I completely turn off iPhone backups to my Mac?

How do I completely turn off iPhone backups to my Mac?  I have an MBP with a 250 GB SSD running Mountain Lion that I use primarly for work and I'm getting low on disk space.  I'm having a clear out and I noticed that my iPhone and iPad back ups use about 20 gigs which is too much. Neither carries important data and my phone photos are already covered by iPhoto auto backing up to a remote library. I don't want to pay for an iCoud account. Any ideas?

You need to sync your iPhone contacts with the Address Book on your Mac, which is as designed and intended.
Before the first sync for this data, enter one contact in the Address Book on your Mac. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
Syncing contacts with the Address Book is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
The same applies before syncing calendar events with iCal if you aren't using iCal on your Mac for calendar events.

  • How do I completely remove an iPhone from my iTunes account

How do I completely remove an iPhone from my iTunes account, I have removed my ex's iPhone from the device list but I keep getting notifications saying that her phone is now using FaceTime and iMessage, I have changed my password as well

If she is using the same iCloud account you can sign into iCloud.com > Find my Phone > Devices > select her phone and wipe it only if she had Find my Phone enabled in the iCloud settings on the phone.
Otherwise, you will need to contact her.
She needs to sign out on the phone.
Settings > iMessage > Send & Recieve > Apple ID  > Sign out
Settings > FaceTime > Apple ID  > Sign ut
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Sign out
If she is using the same iCloud account too then:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account

    Hello RationalPuppet
If you go to Settings > Music and then toggle off Show All Music that will prevent from seeing your downloaded music. I have also provided other articles for hiding purchases and even deleting purchases from iTunes in the Cloud.

  • Sudden, complete power-down of iMac G5 PPC

Here's the history: This is a 1.8GHz 20" PPC iMac G5 running 10.5.8. It is the one with the bad capacitors; I had them replaced just over two years ago, and the computer has mostly worked well since then. A short time before those repairs, I replaced the power supply. It has a hard drive which was installed (new) along with the capacitor repair.
Just recently (past week or two) the computer occasionally just suddenly powers down completely. No warning, nothing odd happening right before, and complete, immediate power down. Usually will start right back up. Sometimes there is a loud, single tone (not the regular startup tone) as the power light comes on. Then the tone stops, the power light flashes several times, then comes on steady and the startup proceeds normally. Other times, it starts up normally. I tried to startup from the hardware test disc, but could not get it to do so. It would get to the screen with the little folder icon in the middle of the screen, then would just flash back and forth between a plain folder and the same one with a question mark. Had to do a safe startup to get it to just go back and open off the hard drive so I could remove the disc.
Other than seeming a little slow sometimes, mainly in opening new browser windows, and some snow on the screen for a minute or two when initially powering up after it's been off for awhile, the computer seems to be working well. Aside from these new sudden power-downs, of course.
I opened it up and...yeah, the replaced capacitors are bulging. More than half of them. So, questions: would it be normal for two-year-old capacitors to be developing problems like this? As far as I could determine, the repairs were done by a reputable service. If they are going bad, why? It was my impression at the time (from a considerable amount of reading on these and other discussion boards) that the reason the old ones failed is that they were defective. Many people (including myself) had failures of those after a much longer period of use than the two years I've had these. Is it possible the ones put in were bad too?
And beyond that issue, is it possible/likely the power supply is bad again? I'm sure I used these boards (and the kind people who respond to questions!) at the time I replaced it to determine the problem in the first place, but I can't recall exactly what the symptoms were then, and in any case thought it best to start a fresh thread with all the other information about the computer.
I'd love to just get a brand-new computer but it is not possible right now. I have three others that are even older, and shall have to rely on them if I can't count on the one I'm describing here. It'll be a real problem, so any insights or assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Judy

It is possible that you got a bad bunch of caps agan, but it seems morel likely that it's the power supply as well this time.  Replacing the caps, as you know, is not cheap, it's a fiddly operation, replacing the power supply isn't as bad, but it does cost a bit.  You'll have to decide whether to bite the bullet and pay for repairs, or save up for a new Mac.

  • Iphone 4s has vertical lines all across the screen and will not power down unless it is charging. What is the problem here?

My iphone 4s recently stopped turning on. I left it alone on the charger for a few days and now will power on just fine. However I have vertical lines going across the entire screen. I also noticed that it will not power down and stay off unless it is connected to the charger. Is this a hardware problem?

      Try to Reset your device.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

  • Battery powers down with use while charging

Battery takes hours to charge but powers down if pluggwed in

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPHONE beeping while charging.

I had my IPHONE on the charger dock, I received 2 text messages...it made the normal new text sound but then started to beep 2 or 3 times a second... I took the phone off the dock checked messages and was still beeping. No calendar reminder or alarm was set...the beeping wouldn't stop until i turned off the phone. Any suggestions?

My guess is an obscure bug caused by an interaction between 2 applications that was not anticipated by the programmers. If it happens again then further investivation is called for.

  • Should I completely power down my iPhone 4 overnight ?

Should  I shut down my iPhone 4 overnight since my power is complet drained in the morning?

If it is completely drained in the morning, that means some app is running and draining your battery.
If you put the phone in airplane mode overnight, does the battery still run down?
