How do I compress a 2 min FCP video into 100MB for web upload?
I have FCP v.7 as a part of FCStudio
OK, this may seem like a stupid question for most of you but I haven't used FCP for years. I am trying to make and upload a 2 min video to the web and don't know how to turn it into a size of 100MB or less.
Yes, I realize that I have Compressor but it does not work on my computer for some reason. I think my laptop is too old for it or something.
It needs to be in one of these formats and I would like to use the highest quality. Suggestions needed for this also since this will be my first attempt at an uploaded video.
.MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .MPG, .3GP, 3G2, .QTL, OR .MP4
Any help would be wonderful!

First, let me apologize for the way we were chatting on your thread while waiting.
Let me summerize what I think we have here:
1. You have a 2 minute show you want to convert to some codec appropriate for high quality presentation, but under 100MB final filesize.
2. You feel you don't want to use Compressor or a preset for YouTube.
3. You're in a hurry.
The fastest and highest quality method of making this conversion is using Compressor. It is designed to do precisely what you ask. The codec you want is H.264.
The YouTube preset is being suggested not because we think you're going to upload the clip to that site, but because the YouTube preset is a remarkably easy way to get a HQ H.264 clip with acceptable filesize. I'm staring at a 3:40 clip of 1080p that would knock your socks off and it's 90MB!
Even on a laptop the conversion is a matter of minutes.
If you're OK with my arguement, I'll write out a step-by-step proc for you and you can be done with this in time for that primetime show you want to watch. OK?

Hi all, I have a movie trailer that needs to be split into chunks for the web, to be played as a flash file, I have never done this, so my question is at what level do i do this, the timeline?, is there a program that does it?, can flash do it automatilly?, is there a good progam out there that does it?. The bandwidth of the website will dictate the picture size and the data rate the server will cope with. Full screen motion video at 25 fps is too much for most web sites.
If you are supplying this to a web designer, ask them what size and data rate they want.
If you are doing this yourself you would have to experiment with how the system copes when downloading the files in practice.
For example, for one of the websites we have we use one of the Squeeze standad presets in the Flash Video section of 320x240 @250 mbps for 4:3 SD video. This is to fit on a page of text with buttons with a video image of about 1/8 of the screen.

Just in case note....for a regular DVD player, granted it is important to have a video format that the player supports (namely DVD-VIDEO format); however, the other half of the consideration...the player needs to support the disc type (media type) that the video format is on. I do not know of a regular DVD player that supports DVD-VIDEO on a memory stick.
If you have recorded PAL 1080i (1920 x 1080 @ 25 interlaced frames per second), that interlaced video exists with Field Order: Upper Field First.
But, you end product DVD-VIDEO is characterized by Field Order: Lower Field First. If you run into this type of Field Order problem, then there are 2
possibilities to get that taken care of
a. Assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13....set the project preset (manually) to
PAL
Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders
Full HD 1080i25
or
b. Import the source media using
PAL
AVCHD
Full HD1080i15
and then, for each Timeline 1080i, right click it, select Field Options from the pop up menu, and then select Reverse Field Dominance.
When you export to file, you lose the opportunity for menus. The only export to file with menus is found in the webDVD export which is
in reality a flash file with menus. That might be a consideration for playback through the web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
If putting a file on a memory stick is a working possibility, you might want to look also at AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p25, but all depends on the
support of the player.

HT4640 How do I play a "movie" not a video on keynote for iPad.

I spent two hours googling this problem with VERY mixed results. I am trying to import a video I recorded with a camera onto my iPad so that I can embed it in a Keynote presentation. First, despite tips on how to change the format/file name, I could not get the file onto my ipad using an sd card and the camera connection kit. I put the video into itunes, tried to sync. Despite being the proper .mov format, it would not sync to the ipad as it "cannot be played on this ipad". I googled this problem, I was told to go to the advanced menu in itunes and convert it to an ipad format. There is no more advanced menu. I googled this problem, I found that the settings are now distributed throughout the other menus. I finally found the option in the File menu. I converted the file. It transfered to the iPad. Whew, finally, I'm done. No. The video is now only accessible in the Movies app. Keynote refuses to recognize this as a valid place to select videos: there is no option for this. What a gigantic waste of time. How can I put this video on my iPad in such a way as to use it with Keynote. I have to say, that I used to flaunt Mac's ease of use... I can easily say that this nightmare has reversed that opinion completely.
Btw, I am using windows xp, and an iPad 2 with 6.0.1. iTunes version 11.0.1.12
I also tried creating a playlist in itunes with the movie and syncing. This also did nothing.

PROBLEM Compressing FCP PROJECT into file for DVDPRO

**this is my information...**
I'm EXPORTING a FCP project which is 45 minutes in length. I EXPORT it to COMPRESSOR. COMPRESSOR opens and shows the FILE in up LEFT box where I drag Presets. It gives me the PROJECT NAME but in the little picture box it just shows the FCP ICON. I know when I EXPORT a QT movie of a FCP project, a frame of the project appears in the little box where I drag the presets. This time it doesn't. So I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using DVD preset "DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes". It begins to compress the FCP file which takes roughly 2 hours. I check and it says it's "successful". BUT when I open DVDPRO and import the project to burn there is only ONE FILE not TWO FILES which would be the AUDIO and the VIDEO file. so DVDPRO does not recognize this and it won't burn. What do I do? THANKS for you help. Andy

Try exporting the sequence as a self-contained file using "current settings". This should result in one file with all the quality of what was on the timeline. Make sure this is in a folder located on your scratch (non-system) drive.
Then, open up Compressor, drag in the just created file, apply the "DVD best 90 minutes" preset making sure both the m2v and ac3 compressor actions are included and set the output directory to "Source".
Let it run.
Do you have .m2v and .ac3 files located in the same folder as the original self contained .mov file when complete?

do you mean you want to play your videos from your Vixia camcorder on your iPad mini? Well, that may be a little difficut. Because the video came from your camera may not be a very friendly format.
Here you can try install VLC on your iPad mini , VLC should support AVCHD (*.MTS) natively.
If this can't work, then find yourself a free converter;
Handbrake, Any video converter ,ffMPEG etc.
If this can't wrok , or the output quality is jerky.
try this one free mts/m2ts converter from pav, I used it and considered to update it.

Work Flow - FCE to QT then compress and convert to AVI for web upload

I am creating movie clips that will be 5 to 10 min in length to be streamed on my website. At the current time, my CMS (content management system) for the web cannot accept H.264 (MP4) files, but can accept FLV, AVI and WMV. So, given this constraint, my workflow has been:
1) export from FCE to QT as self contained movie (Large HD files some up to 10GB)
2) compress down to a web usable size (maybe 180MB or so) at 640 X 480 using Elgato Turbo H.264 (however it only converts to .MP4 format)
3) use MPEG Streamslip to convert the compressed file from MP4 to AVI file
4) upload to web
My problem is that I seem to lose quality when converting from MP4 to AVI. Can anyone improve on this workflow or recommend products that might make this process and improve the quality of the final product?
I am still searching the forum, but only finding bits and pieces and not the full picture for my problem.

After doing this a few times, I remember why I was using Elgato...it is very fast and the quality is really good. MPEG Streamslip is almost as fast but slightly lacking in the quality. Still, it is really good. I just need to select the best output from Streamslip for the best quality.

I have a montage Thats around 900mb and I need to compress it down to 100mb, so I can post in on the web. I was wondering what is the best way of doing this without loosing much quality. Also Is there a way of changing the frame size in comprressor, or do you have to do this before hand?

It helps to post a link to a thread when you refer to it. If you are trying to implement that solution though, you can look at the parameter of the corresponding method being called. The parameter has type 'SIMPLE' which means that it is compatible with all of the predefined elementary ABAP types. In this case, you should use 'STRING'.
