  • Keyboard binding special characters

I'm a new Mac/pages user and I'd like to be able to keyboard bind several special characters I use for my legal notes (π, §, Δ) through a command + p, s, d or something similar. It was fairly easy to do so in Office, but I can't seem to get it to work in pages. Pull downs work fine but I'm looking to streamline and the number of time I use, at least, those symbols will slow down productivity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Consider yourself lucky.
France and the EU have intelligently not signed a "Free Trade" agreement with the USA unlike Australia and Canada.
We both got screwed. Big time. Our products are still largely discriminated against and the USA gets protection for excessively long IR, and gets free access to our markets, which it then controls to over charge.
They were whooping with joy in the US Senate when the bills got passed, until they realised we were probably watching, when they put on a straight faced earnest "this will be good for both countries" spin.
Imports from the States have more than doubled whilst our exports to the States have declined. Most of our agricultural and primary exports are still banned from the States under the so called "Free Trade" agreement.
The only satisfaction I have is that the government that signed it was thrown out of power in the previous election. But the damage is done.

  • OpenSSO 8 configurator error due to special characters in password

We got the same AMSetupServlet StringIndexOutOfBoundsException described in thread 5356908 when running the GUI configurator in OpenSSO Enterprise 8.0 Update 1 Patch 1.
As in that posting, the error was caused by a special character in the password ($ in this case).
So it seems that the fixes mentioned by kujalli didn't address this issue.

    Hello All,
the second issue is resolved as i replaced some other character and included the two necessary for me and the issue is solved.
For first issue, i found an OSS notes 173241, which says character # cannot be loaded alone. But the OSS notes is for version 3.1 and i am not sure whether the issue is fixed in 7.0 version

  • Experimental Web Keyboards for Special Characters

Since the iPhone's current keyboard has only limited options in terms of characters, I put together a couple of experimental javascript keyboards for accented Latin, Russian, and Greek here

  • How do I type in code for special characters within a font?

Hi, I'm using the font Aloisan New and am trying to access a character which is listed as having the number 146 associated with it. Someone told me I need to press alt-0146 to make the character I need appear, but when I do, it only produces those same numbers and doesn't seem to accept them as a single code. Can someone please guide me key by key as to what I should press and in combination with what? It would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Someone told me I need
to press alt-0146 to make the character
    That's garbage.
That's an extreme response. Alt-0146 It isn't garbage, that's how it works on most computers (Windows). In most cases that would have been a perfectly legitimate answer. Including on a Mac booted into Windows via Boot Camp or through virtualization. It is also perfectly understandable how they would have given such advice.
It is simpler on the Mac, though, using the Option key and the Character palette.

Note that you can also exclude a page from your sitemap.xml to prevent crawlers from crawling it. Usually you don't want to do this, but if you have a good reason to the setting for that is in the page properties dialog.
You can assign heading tags using paragraph styles. More info here:

I'm able to set alt text on thumbnail images. Are you sure you have the thumbnail image selected?
You can create a placeholder page in your plan view, then mark the page menu options as 'include page without hyperlink'. Then your menu will contain an entry for this page, but no hyperlink. If you select the menu item, you can assign a hyperlink with the hyperlink control in the control strip.

  • How to configure my keyboard to portuguese from brazil and can type "c̡", "é", "ã", etc?

How can I configure my keyboard to portuguese from brazil, and can write "c̡", "á", "ã", etc ?

System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources tab. Top of the left column, tick (check) "Keyboard and Character Viewer", Bottom of window next to search field, tick "Show input menu in menu bar"
    Enable Portuguese keyboard layout.
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab; tick "show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar"
If you open Keyboard Viewer and press the alt (option) key, the location of the diacritics will be revealed. Note that five of them are highlighted in orange; these are the ones which can be used with multiple  letters (acute, umlaut, gràve, circumflex and tilde)
    Shift+Alt will show more.
If you want to use the Portuguese layout, go to the flag symbol in the menu bar and change the keyboard in the dropdown, then use Keyboard viewer again to see where the characters are in relation to your own keyboard.

  • Special characters in Web Services

I have developed a Web Service in Java using JBuilder 2005 and deployed it on BEA Weblogic 8.1 SP5. Weblogic is configured to use the ISO-8859-1 encoding as well as JBuilder. I am living in South Africa and we need to cater for special characters. A typical test string is "MOKENAA".
I have also developed a little test class to test this Web Service. The only parameter is a String type and it returns a String type. This String type must be able to handle special characters.
I understand that the String in Java is unicode with no encoding. How do I pass a string containing special characters to this web service. I am getting the error "SOAP Fault:javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException: Internal Error: unable to process your request: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: weblogic.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: Malformed UTF-8 char -- is an XML encoding declaration missing? - with nested exception:
[weblogic.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: Malformed UTF-8 char -- is an XML encoding declaration missing? - with nested exception:
[java.io.CharConversionException: Malformed UTF-8 char -- is an XML encoding declaration missing?]]" .
Currently I am converting the string to a byte[] array and encode it with the .getBytes("ISO-8859-1") method of the String class and replace the String parameter in the Web Service with a byte[] type. This results in a longer than needed parameter that needs to go over the wire.
I want to do it the wright way using string type if possible.
What is the correct way of dealing with this special characters.
    Regards

In theory you should be able to enter them via a special small pop up window. In System Preferences -> Keyboard -> and you can switch to show keyboard layout and such in the menu bar (assuming you're running SL).
Then you can open a glyphs window accessing all possible unicode characters:
    ⠫⠳⠭⠹㉢㈚↳↬ ䷑䷪䷬䷜

  • Dynamic insert for Special Characters

    Hello,
I'm running into a problem inserting data with Special Characters. I have a report (designed oracle reports), that takes data and inserts the data into table. I use the SRW.do_sql built in package in a before report trigger to process the data. However the problem that I'm running into is how to dynamically account for the special characters in a description field that I have. There is no way for me to predict where or how many can appear in a field. For example, I may have a field that contains data like:
    O'REILLY AND ASSOCIATES INC.
    OR
    FULLER & D'ALBERT, INC.
    OR
    JOANNE'S BED & BACK SHOP
The only special characters that seem to be used and are causing me problems are the " ' " and " & ".
Does anyone know how I can dynamically account for these special characters in my insert statement?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello,
I'm using SRW.DO_SQL procedure in oracle reports because that is one you can run text via reports. The report actually exports the results to a text file and insert the results into a table. Anyway, the SRW.DO_SQL isn't my problem but rather the special characters. I have researched the problem some more and I have found a solution. You can use the "replace" feature to do an insert/update of special characters. You also need to find the character number for each special character. I believe "&" is chr(38), "%" is chr(37), "#" is chr(35), "@" is chr(64), "'" is char(39). So the code would be:
    insert into tableA (column1) values(
    replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(v_entity_name,chr(39),chr(39)),chr(38),chr(38)),chr(35),chr(35)),chr(37),chr(37)),chr(64),chr(64));
