How do I conform 50fps footage to 25fps FCP X

I would like to know how to conform differant frame rates in FCP X without cinema tools, is it posible?

First create a 25P project (aka Sequence/Timeline) drop your clips in the main storyline, select all and under the retiming icon, select conform speed.

  • 5dmk3 50fps footage in premiere cc

I Have some 5dmk3 footage shot at 50fps. I can interpret footage to 25fps via the modify tab in the premiere cc project and create slow motion , that's fine.
My question is: if I want to use the footage at normal speed (25fps not slow motion) am I best to use the footage as shot or to interpret to 25fps and then do a speed ramp back to normal time ?
Are there any inherent problems by doing this ?
    Thanks
    Mark

Just drop the 50fps footage into a 25 fps sequence. Premiere Pro will simply drop every other frame. Which is not all that different than interpreting it to 25 and speeding it up, thereby dropping every other frame. But there is no point in taking the extra step. Not unless it is almost all supposed to be seen in slow motion but occasionally you will pull out part of a clip and speed it up.

  • Converting 29.97 stock footage to 25fps

I have some stock footage that is 29.97fps in my final cut express sequence and it jerks every second or so, while the rest of my footage is 25fps and plays smoothly - how do I convert the 29.97fps to 25fps so it plays smoothly. There is no audio with it, so that is not a problem.
I have the new compressor but I have no idea how to use it
    Thanks

The low-cost way to convert NTSC footage to PAL is to use JES Deinterlacer.  Convert the clip(s) to PAL and then re-import them back into FCE.
Is this SD or HD footage?

  • How does one Conform 50p to 25P?

Now Cinema Tools is out of the equation.. how does one conform 50p to 25p within FCPX? I dont want to use Optical FLow in Motion.. thats not conforming and takes way too long, plus is not as good for a SloMo effect.

No...because CT does a frame for frame conform. FCP does not have that option. What is wrong with doing it with CT?

  • How to best correct outdoor footage

I have about 2 min of footage I shot at an out door event. I have a DVX100B and put the ND filter switch to 1/64 because it was so bright. Now that I am editing, all the footage has a blue cast to it. What is the best color correction formula to use to reverse this in FC6 (if possible) or to make it look at least better than it does. Just for a website. Thanks!

For future reference, always remember to white balance for each lighting situation even when you change the ND filter and as the sun changes position. Don't rely on auto white balance. AWB is set for average scenes where available light is friendly, little bunny rabbits skip and play, and butterflies land on your shoulder. I don't think that a single outdoor show/event that I have done has ever looked right with AWB.
Speaking from experience, I know how difficult this can be to see correctly outdoors. Don't rely on the LCD screen for color and exposure when outdoors. Use the eye piece for more control or an external hooded monitor (when possible).
A step that like to use at the beginning of a shoot is to turn on bars to make sure the view finder brightness is set correctly. When the VF brightness is tweaked, it can give you a false sense of exposure. Look at the black/gray/white sections below the color bars, there should be a subtle difference, not a distinct difference, between the dark gray and black squares.
As for your zebra issues, another method is shutter speed (does the DVX have that capability?). A faster shutter speed will reduce the amount of light hitting the sensor. Just make sure to watch what's going on in your frame as shutter speed can affect how motion looks on your footage.
    Happy shooting!

  • How can I import XDCAM footage from files that have been taken off the card?

    Hi,
I am trying to log and transfer footage that has been taken off SxS cards and put onto an external hard drive. I've downloaded the Sony plug-ins for my computer, but still can't import anything in Log and Transfer. Can anyone help?

Was THE ENTIRE CARD backed up?  Everything?  The full card structure?  If not, then FCP won't see it...it'll say the directory structure is invalid.  IN that case you might need to use the XDCAM TRANSFER UTILITY...separate app that can transcode the footage to QT FCP can use.

  • Retaining sharp 1280 × 720 footage in a FCP 1920 x 1080 sequence?

    Hi Guys
Some video footage I have which contains text on screen is 1280 × 720 and I want to include this footage in a FCP 1920 x 1080 sequence. Efforts to scale up the footage from 1280 × 720 to 1920 x 1080 have resulted in the text looking nowhere near as sharp as 1280 × 720.
Can any of you advise me how I might be able to include this 1280 × 720 footage in a 1920 x 1080 sequence without, ideally, having to scale the footage? I'm thinking that I might need to create a 'letterbox' using Compressor 3.5.3. However, can you briefly advise me how I may do this?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice whatsoever you can offer.
    Warm regards
    Peter

Just put the 1280x720 material in your sequence, double click on it to load it into the Viewer window then click on the Motion Tab.
Set the Scale to 100. This will place the material in the middle of the 1920x1080 window with black all around.

  • URGENT. HOW TO IMPORT MP4 FULL HD IMAGES TO FCP TIMELINE

HOW TO IMPORT MP4 FULL HD IMAGES TO FCP TIMELINE WITHOUT HAVING TO RENDER.

    Stop shouting.
You can't use MPEG4 in Final Cut Pro without lots of hassle.
They need to be converted to one of the editing codecs found in Final Cut Pro's Easy Setup menu.
What is the source of your footage and which version of FCP are you using?
What model Mac, with which version of Mac OS X?

  • How do you convert 60fps to 24fps in FCP X

How do you convert 60fps to 24fps in FCP X for or do I need to figure out the percentages and use that optical flow tool, because I have tried to figure it out but there is a blurry trail when I use the optical flow tool.

Thanks Tom, so can you do that after it's already been imported? I am out shooting this afternoon, but I will look for it when I get back to the studio. I appreciate the help, I haven't had a lot of time to spend relearning FCP, so any help I can get to make my life easier is super appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • How well does Qmaster via Compressor work with FCP 7?

How well does Qmaster via Compressor work with FCP 7?

It works wonderfully as long as you are running (at least) OSX 10.5.6 + QT 7.6 on a serious intel mac.

  • Is my FCP 7 compatible with footage edited in FCP 10?

I have an iMac with FCP 7.  Someone has a project that is well advanced in FCP10.  Does anyone know how I could transfer the Project to my FCP 7 version?
Is FCP 10 the same as FCPX?  I've only heard horror stories about that version.  And I would prefer to convert to FCP 7 if possible.  Thank you very much for any knowledge you could share.

    Hi Ruth,
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/Xto7/
there's a link on this page to the documentation for the program.  The documentation walks you thru the process and explains the limitations of the program.  Remember that fcpX will work with formats that are NOT suitable for editing in fcp7.  You may need to convert the material before working with it fcp7.

  • Difference in quality on footage imported in FCP 3.0 vs. 5.0?

    Hi all.
I'm wondering if there is a difference in quality of image for footage captured in FCP 3.0 compared with footage captured in FCP 5.0?
I've got a project that contains footage captured from both these apps. I'm presently editing it on FCP 5.0. I'm just wondering if there is a difference that might come to haunt me later on down the road (i.e. moving project to dvd, blueray, hd dvd, digibeta, etc.)
    The footage is standard DV.
    Thanks a bunch.
    hr2

I admit, I'm a bit clueless on the codec issue, but
hasn't the Quicktime codec been vastly improved since
    FCP 3.0? What with H.264?
Yes, H.264 is a great delivery codec compared to some from the past, but if you're capturing DV via FireWire into your Mac, that's different and has nothing to do with H.264.
So in the old 3.0 days you could capture DV25, edit, then when you're done export to Cinepak or Sorenson 3 or somethin'.
Today you can capture DV25, edit, then when you're done export and compress to H.264.

  • Need to export MAC PRO RES HQ footage out of FCP and into premiere friendly format

Ive been forced to switch platforms mid project (mac -> PC) and luckily have obtained picture lock so theres no loss to having lost my FCP project. The problem has been that when i went to load my footage into premiere or to even play the files with VLC nothing worked, and i discovered that it was infact the codec, which was a MAC only PRO RES HQ codec, so now i need to re-export my footage out of FCP into a windows usuable format.
What is the best codec/format to use that will maintain the original quality? Filesize is not an issue.

As Jim mentioned, you'd have to use an uncompressed codec--probably QuickTime Animation, as I'm not sure you can encode to an uncompressed AVI on the Mac.
You might also consider something like
Sheer Video. It's a QuickTime codec for both Mac and PC. You'd have to purchase the Mac encoder component, and I think you could then get the free playback component on the PC--though you might actually have to buy the PC version, too. There's also Digital Anarchy's
Microcosm. Both of these codecs are perceptually lossless, but offer far greater compression ratios (and manageability) than Animation. Not saying either is the best option, but they are options, nonetheless.

  • Transcoding 50fps footage in FCP7 that's shot with the HVX?

How do I transcode DVCPRO HD which has been shot in 50fps to 50fps? Videorate says it's 25fps, compression says it's 720p50. Cinema tools I guess? I have many clips so is there a way to do them all at once?

But the 25fps footage is as much progressive as the 50fps
Yup, understood, thats what I mentioned above.
and the footage looks excatly the same
If you can't tell the difference  .... well, then it doesn't really matter then does it? Sorry, I think I misunderstood from your posts that you were keen to maintain the 50 fps frame rate. If thats not an issue then go ahead and work as you like. If you put the 1080p25 footage in a 720p50 sequence then FCP scale it down to fit and add duplicate frames (there will be 50 fps but it'll still look like 25p). If you put the 720p50 footage in a 1080p25 timeline the FCP blow up the footage to fit the 1080 frame size and will throw away every other frame to reduce the frame rate to 25p (it wont look like 50p it'll look like 25p). Pick whichever workflow suits you best.
Cheers, and have fun with your project
    Andy
