How do I connect 2 external monitors with full HD to my MacBook Pro?

I would like to connect up my 2 external monitors to my MacBook Pro.  But I want to have full HD resolution.  I want to have the desktop stretched so I don't want mirror displays.  What is the best way to accomplish this?  Is there an adapter that I should use?

Thanks for the reply. Haven't gotten anything as yet. Just that I burned out my older PowerBook using it as a primary screen w/ a secondary 20" monitor. Would be nice if the MacBooks could be used as a CPU only, connect 2 different monitors, and use the LCD screen when portability is needed. But I suppose that is why Apple makes different types of computers. I know I can rig the video SCSI cable to bypass to LCD screen and use the other built-in monitor. But there goes the warentee and any kind of AppleCare... not that I have ever used it, (until a day after it has expired!)
But thanks for the feedback. Your reply is what I expected. Being that I am a mercenary graphic designer and need to be able to work whenever, and where-ever I need to, the MacPro is not my hardware of choice. As well, I don't have $4000 in my budget. But man do those machines rock! Just think of what NASA could have done with one of those in 1969 when we were going to the moon! But now that the U.S. has decided that manned space travel and even scientific space exploration is not worthy of having a budget, the MacPros are religated to creating new episodes of Jersey Shores!
Thanks again for your feedback!

  • How to use an external display with Windows 7 and a Macbook Pro (Unibody)

I just set up my new Macbook Pro 15 inch with the Windows 7 beta, and noticed that I couldn't get the external monitor to be seen using Windows 7 only. I am using my Dell 30 inch monitor and it was only seeing the laptop's main display. The fix was to download the Nvidia video drivers for the 9 series (e.g. the GeForce 9600/9400), after which it was maically able to see the display.
The driver can be found here. Enjoy.

How do I get Elements to occupy full screen on my macbook pro? - the docking station remains visible and I don't want to have the dock in hide mode?

Unfortunately, there is no answer to this problem via this link. It may be that this is simply how the software actually works. It is a design fault in Adobe Photoshop Elements. It is possible to temporarily hide the dock within 'system preferences'. Oh well. Someone may know better.... I hope!

Follow the steps listed here under the section titled "External Drive".  Once you find the location of the iTunes Media folder you can transfer it over a netork connection, rather than using an external drive.

  • Can I support 3 external monitors on my late 2013 15" Macbook pro?

The lid would be closed and I want to power 1 through HDMI and 2 through thunderbolt to HDMI.  Is this possible?

    Hello doelfke1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to the technical specifications of your computer, it can support up to two external displays.
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors

  • How to configure 2 external monitors with X1 Carbon

I have a brand new X1 Carbon (Generation 1 3444-CYU), and I also have the docking station.  My intention is to be able to have the laptop cover closed, and to use the power switch on the top of the docking station to start (apply power to) the laptop, and to have the output be driven to two DVI monitors.
At this point, I'm able to have the laptp drive the main screen (part of the laptop) and the two external monitors, but I cannot seem to figure out how to use the docking station to "start/boot" the PC, and to have the bootup sequence, and other subsequent display presented on the two DVI screens only.
As I've been looking through the knowledge base, I'm surprised that there are not simply a series of articles that describe the various options for configuring monitors, so I'm forced to post this request.  Can someone help?
    thanks

I see this is an old post, but I figured I'd respond in case someone else is having the same problem.
There is a setting in the BIOS where you can have the X1 power on automatically when you plug it into the dock. I believe the setting is called something to the affect of "Power On When Connected to A/C." This solves the problem you and describing and I have been using with successfully with a dual monitor set up.

  • How to work on external monitor with lid closed?

I have an external monitor connected to my MB Pro and would like to work with the lid closed. When I shut it, the monitor also goes to sleep. Yesterday I did something right and the monitor woke but I was able to keep the computer closed. Today it's not working. I use a wireless keyboard that also goes to sleep when the lid closes.
What's the procedure to keep the monitor awake while the laptop is closed?
    System 10.6.8

Yes, I have done that and tried it over and over and it still won't work. The monitor went on for a few seconds and then went black again.
Is it possible to do this with a wireless keyboard? I do press the power key to try to wake to keyboard but nothing happens.

  • HT2477 how can I connect a Garmin GPS etrex vista hcx to macbook pro with retina.

I would like to know if is it possible to connect my GPS Garmin etrex vista hcx to my macbook pro with retina.
    Thanks.

I believe that Garmin GPSr model uses a USB connection, so if you load the Garmin drivers, and possibly the [free] Garmin Base Camp utility, you should be able to connect your GPSr to your macbook Pro and transfer information.  I don't recall positively, but I think that your GPSr should appear as a USB drive automatically once you connect it, but it might require you to load the Garmin Communicator software.

  • Connecting Cinema Display with mini display port to macbook pro with thunderbolt port

I am trying to connect a 27" cinema display (2010) that has a mini display port cable out of the back, into my macbook pro (2013) with thunderbolt ports.  The mini display port cord fits into the thunderbolt port on the Macbook Pro, however the macbook pro does not detect the cinema display and the cinema display does not have any picture on the screen.  The USB plugs in fine and sound comes out, and I have the adapter for the magsafe to magsafe 2 and that works fine, it just the actual display.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hello mmholt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s no video on an Apple Cinema Display that’s connected to your MacBook Pro, and you’re wondering if the configuration is supported. It is supported, take a look at the article linked below for more information.
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
    1. Can I connect a Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt port on my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac?
Yes. A Mini DisplayPort display or a display connecting with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI, or HDMI adapter will work just like it was connecting to a Mini DisplayPort connector when plugging in directly to the Thunderbolt connector on your Apple computer. Click here for more information on Mini DisplayPort connections and adapters.
Also, this article provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that will resolve most issues related to video external displays.

  • How can I connect my existing firewire drives to the "new" Macbook pro

I'm thinking about getting a new Macbook Pro, to take on the road.
I already have four external drives with firewire and USB 2.0 ports.
After I looked at the new machine I noticed it only had USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports.
I dont see any Firewire to Thunderbolt technology out there nor do I see any  USB3.0 to anything technology. How can I connect my drives to the new system?

You can use the USB3 connections for USB2.  That's downward compatible.  Just runs at USB2 speed.
Just this week apple announced a couple of TB adapters, TB-to-ethernet and TB-to-firewire.  But the FW adapter is not at the apple store as yet (at least at the time I am posting this).

    Yes.
You can have one HDMI (or DVI monitor via HDMI to DVI adopter) on the HDMI port
Another monitor via one Thunderbolt port and suitable adopter if not a displayport/mini displayport monitor
And use the other Thunderbolt port for Ethernet via a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adopter.

  • How do I use an iPhone with an iMac and a MacBook Pro?

I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4S. I will be travelling and would like to sync my iPhone with the iMac or MacBook, depending on where I am.  I am on the cloud and manage my music manually. I'd like to be able to sync and download app updates via iTunes. Currently I sync via the iMac, will I lose my music if I attempt to sync the iPhone with the MacBook?
Thanks (and, yes, I know there is an obvious answer somewhere but I can't find it)

I was afraid of that. That's why I posted the question before trying to sync and losing everything. Too bad as I just bought a MacBook Pro and would really like to have mirrored devices across the board. Either Appke's technology isn't up to it or they have some obscure secrecy reason to prevent it.
