How do I connect a midi device?

I have something that outputs midi, but I can't find a midi interface.  Does Apple sell one?  Any others that have been used with Macs or iOS devices?

What Mac do you have, with what version of OS X?

You can always open audio/midi setup to troubleshoot midi or audio interface problems.
Go to applications -> Utilities -> Audio Midi Setup.
Then you may have to go to Window -> Show Midi Window.
You can test your setup and add or remove devices.

How do I connect my mid-2009 Macbook pro to my HDMI television and get sound?

Use a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable to connect the computer to the proper HDMI port on your computer — the one that is paired with the separate RCA audio inputs (see the TV's manual for this information). And connect the headphone port on your MBP to those inputs with a cable that has a 1/8' stereo headphone plug on one end and two RCA plugs on the other. You'll also need to select the proper HDMI input in the TV's menu system, and you may have to select the headphone port as the audio output in the Sound pane of System Prefs on the Mac (or it may be selected automatically).

  • How do you connect a MIDI keyboard to Garageband?

Hi. I have a Yamaha PSR-172 keyboard that I would like to connect to GarageBand. Today I bought an M-AUDIO Midisport Uno. I have it connected to my USB port on my Macbook Pro and to the Midi In/Out on the keyboard. I've been trying to make the keyboard connect to the computer for almost an hour, and have tried everything. I even watched several YouTube tutorials, which I tried to mimick, but still no results. Please help.

    1. Does GB tell you "one midi device detected" in the Preferences under Audio/Midi? If not, you need to update the driver for the Midisport from M-Audio's website.
    2. Did you connect the midi out of the keyboard with the midi in of the Midisport? That's a very common mistake people make.

  • How can I control external MIDI devices from my PXI Real-time system?

I am trying to implement a psychoacoustic experiment using an external MIDI device that can be used to shift the pitch of a speaker's voice.
I have a 8176 controller in a 1002 chasis with the 6052E IO card. I would very much prefer to run the system in real-time mode (rather than win XP), and need to control the MIDI device through one of the interfaces on the controller.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frenk

    Hi Frenk,
one way would be an analogue to MIDI converter.
There are some out there (ask for music equipment)which can convert an analogue signal to some MIDI controller signal. This way you could control the pitch shift with an analogue output of the 6052 in realtime.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I connect non Apple devices to my Imac?

I am new to the mac world. I just bought an imac all in one. I have always used a PC since computers came out. I am having some trouble learning the things I can do with my imac. Since I am finding mac is more of an Apple only device and trying to make my mac do what my PC could do is getting me frustrated. To replace all my tv's, blu rays, Epad, Xbox 360 and phones to Apple products would cost me 10k or more. At this point that is not an option.
What I want to do is a whole home connection to my imac. This will include my blu rays, Epad (Droid based), smart phones (Droid based), xbox 360 and WII. I saw a write up on Eyeconnect but I don't know if my systems are UPnP AV media or not. I know that they are DLNA devices. I am pretty sure that my blu rays are UPnP because I saw Sony talk about Eyeconnect on one of their sites. They also talked about Serviio. When I went to the Apple store most of the people there didn't know what I was talking about. They went in the back and check with an expert there and he said to use Auze. I down loaded that software but don't know how to use it. No user guide on what to do with it.
So here is my question to you. What system would work the best to connect all of my devices to my imac? Is it Eyeconnect, Serviio, Auze or even Twonky? Is there something else that I didn't list that would work better than the ones I listed? Your help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Here's another option assuming you have USB 3.0 like my iMac 2012.

simple esata cable to your esata hub with port multiplier and instant box of disks all accessible on a mac and simple USB ejection. Just a low cost idea that works for me.

With only a MIDI OUT you'll need an interface. Here are a few examples:

    Hi,
Are you talking about iPad, iPhone ?? If YES then please check your printer on this list,(updated on 15Dec2011) it must be an AirPrint enabled printer to be able to print from iPad, iPhone. If YES (again), you can use AirPrint on your iPad to print.

  • How do I connect multiple bluetooth devices to macbook pro

    Hi,
I would like to connect bluetooth headset(Bose), my Magic mouse together to my macbook pro.
Also, If possible, I would like to use bluetooh headset and wired headset at the same time.
Is it possible, if yes, could some one guide me.
    Regards

Multiple Bluetooth devices may be connected to your computer at the same time.
Set up differs from device to device. The Bluetooth set up assistant should find new devices when they are turned on and in range of your computer.

  • Environment Question. How to send to external midi devices

    Hi All,
I used to be able to do this but now can't remember. Basically, I'd like to control an external synth from logic..... Edit an instrument performance then run it to say a moog and record the audio back in. What do I need to do in the environment to make this happen?
    Thanks!!

    Old way:-
Open the environment, create a New -> Instrument. Name it "Moog" (or whatever), and chose the MIDI port and channel it responds on.
Back in the arrange, control-click on a track, select "Reassign track object" and choose the "Moog" instrument to assign it to a track. Now all notes on this track get sent to the Moog.
Audio you record in the normal manner.
    Newer way:
On a software instrument, add an "External Instrument" plugin. Choose the MIDI port and channel (or your "Moog" instrument) and the audio inputs the audio is coming back on. Now you can treat your hardware synth in a similar way to regular software instruments.

  • How do you connect a USB MIDI keyboard to iPad Air?

    Hello,
I can't get my USB keyboards to connect to my iPad Air.  I used to use the camera connection kit with my 1st gen iPad and it worked perfectly.  Now when trying to connect using my camera connector plugged into a lightning to 30 pin adapter with the iPad Air I get no response when trying to use my keyboards with Garageband, etc.  This seems like a step backwards!!!
Can anyone advise on how to use a USB MIDI keyboard with the iPad Air?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Same problem here...
I just read on another forum that someone managed to connect a midi device using a simple converter.
I have a digital piano with the square type USB connector, bought an adapter to convert the iPad Air's ligtning USB cable's USB end to that square connector, plugged it in, GarageBand did not respond to the Midi input.
on a macbook pro it works ok, but would be nice to use the iPad now that I bought it...

  • Can't connect MIDI devices in Audio Midi Setup

In the help for Audio Midi Setup, step 7 says you can connect devices as follows:
"7. To specify the connection between MIDI devices, drag the output or input connectors above the device icon to the corresponding connector on the other device icon."
I can drag out a line from the device ports ("connectors"), but cannot find a way to make those lines "stick" to a second MIDI device or its ports -- i.e., I cannot connect devices like this at all.
Is this just me? Is this feature not yet implemented perhaps?
    Thanks!

Ok, I finally solved this. For whatever reason, I could not set up connections between my auto-detected USB MIDI devices in Audio MIDI Setup -- maybe it is just not designed for this, or maybe I'm still not understanding what to do. i.e., I could not connect my E-MU 0404/USB to any port on my MOTU MIDI Express 128.
However, I was able to configure the individual MIDI interfaces (i.e. the E-MU or the MOTU, separately), using "Add Device" and then connecting between those interface devices and the newly added devices. This was the first time I had seen the "connectors" actually "take" and connect between entities within the Audio MIDI Setup utility, so that was a relief. Presumably doing this informs applications on the Mac how the MIDI system is set up -- I just thought it did more than that, i.e. allow direct routing between MIDI devices using just the utility itself.
I still don't know if I am meant to be able to connect a keyboard to a synth using just Audio MIDI Setup alone (what I had hoped), but I certainly can't seem to get that simple config to work and will have to resort to using some additional software like a sequencer. Not my preference, but c'est la vie.
    Thanks for all the suggestions,
    Stewart.

  • How to put External MIDI Device on REC and also REC audio sources?

    Hi,
I'm new at Logic 8 and i'm having trouble urderstanding how to put an external MIDI device on Rec and still record other Audio tracks.
I created an External Midi device in the Environment and created a midi track and a audio track for the device, so far so good, it all plays well.
But when i try to record the device at the same time as other audio tracks the midi device records but the audio does not, and i can listen to the audio that is getting in but Logic doesn't record anything.
Another thing that i cant understand it why i can only trigger the rec on the external midi device if it is selected?
    Regards,
    Herculano

After enabling "record" (R) hold down shift and select all tracks you want to record to. You can either do this in the Arrange or in the Mixer section
