How do I connect a Tascam US-144    Audio/MIDI Interface

I have no idea what I'm doing.
I also have a Axiom 25 which works just fine when I plug it in.
...so
what's the deal?

not to be rude, but this is really starting to get on my nerves!
Dude, it's not my fault, OK? So you'd better calm down.
This Tascam device obviously has a direct monitoring option, which means that if you connect a sound source to one of its inputs and plug your headphones into headphone jack, you MUST hear something (and it is absolutely independent of any software that you use). If you don't hear anything, then there is a possibility that: a) you forgot to switch it on (hence no lights, no nothing, as you say) or put up the levels; b) the device is broken.
It is not true that its manual refers to Windows only. There are actually sections about how to configure it in Mac OSX (see, I had the trouble to download the manual just to help you). As for Logic, everything you need to know is also in its manual ('setting up your system' section if I am not mistaken).
Just in case, have you reached the stage when you can select Tascam interface as Input device for Logic in Preferences -> Audio -> General tab? If you have, it means OS recognizes it and the driver works.
So next step would be:
1) Create an Audio track
2) Select the APPROPRIATE input (the one where you actually plugged in your instrument) as a sound source (have you done that?)
3) Arm the track for recording or switch on input monitoring
I don't really know how much more specific can one be here. Also, note that I assume your Mac is in good condition and everything works, including USB ports and audio/USB cables.

  • How do i connect 2 soft synths to 1 midi region?

I have a bassline made from Massive and Scrabee Bass , i want them to booth run of one midi region like a rack in Ableton . I have them booth running together by going to "Environment - Mixer" and link the channel at the top of the strip . the problem is now as i alter the volume on one instrument booth are adjusted . So--
How do i get booth instruments working form one midi region but allowing me to alter volume pan ect seperately , thanks.

Actually it's very easy to do in the Environment.
    1. Create an extra track in the Arrange area. Doesn't matter the type of track as we'll reassign it to something else later.
    2. In the Environment's Mixer layer choose: New > Instrument
    3. Assign the Instrument object (you can rename it if you wish) to the empty track in the Arrange. Loads of ways to do this. My fave is to drag the object from the Environment onto the Track Header in the Arrange area.
    4. Drag one output cable from the Instrument object to one SI channel strip in the Environment. Drag a second output cable from the Inst object to the other SI channel strip.
    5. In the Arrange area move the MIDI region onto the Instrument's track. Done.
You can now independently control the volume, pan, etc on each of the channel strips.
    Hope this helps

  • Audio/MIDI Interface to replace a Tascam US-122L?

    Hi guys,
I bought a Tascam US-122L off ebay last week to replace an Asio Alesis iO2, with the intention of using it for recording, multi-tracking and most importantly gigging (MIDI keyboard thru Mainstage) at a festival next week.
I had the usual problems that people have with the US-122L on OSX Lion, and have managed to get it working for audio but not MIDI, effectively rendering it useless for the biggest thing I need it for.
As a result, I have decided I need to find another interface as I really don't have time to spend all next week trying all the different fixes that may or may not work.
So, can anyone recommend an interface which:
    - is fully compatible with OSX Lion, and Logic and Mainstage 2.
    - has both audio & MIDI capability-for example the M-Audio Fast Track doesn't have a MIDI port, so it would be of no use to me.
    - is USB powered, not mains
    - is of decent quality for audio
    - is portable- not much bigger than the tascam at the most, preferably smaller
I need to be able to pick one up second hand (online) for preferably less than £80, if possible. I'll be using it on a late-2011 MacBook Pro and have a powered USB hub.
    Thanks,
    Alex

works fine here on 10.4.8 and a 15" 1.5Ghz G4 powerbook and an old us-122
Just for the record: When i first open the aggregate device editor no devices show up.
They do when i hit the "+" next to "add and remove aggregate.."

  • How do I connect the front-of-case audio inputs to my x-fi extreme mus

Pretty much as it says in the title! I want to connect the microphone and headphone connectors to my extreme music, but i can't work out which pins to connect them to. Is there a diagram showing what each pin is for? I've been googling for ages and can't fine one.

    You can go here http://www.devhardware.com/forums/multimedia-73/audigy-2-zs-front-of-case-audio-mic-connectors-5584-8.html
and to make an adaptor so that the pins fit firmly, you can click here
    http://audigy2zshowto.blogspot.com/
There is a white connector in the top left of the sound card.
Here is the pin layout for that connector (I did not make this. The headphone and mic jacks seem correct; But other pins may not be, as I have not confirmed them all yet):
pin 0 is closest to the back panel of the card. See this http://www.devhardware.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=983
for a picture submitted by Davidl9999 in the above devhardware link.
    - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
4 - Analog Headphone Out Right
    5 - same as #3
6 - Mic input from front panel
    7 - key pin (shouldn't be there)
8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic
9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +2VDC when mic is plugged in
0 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used)
*Note: If you connect pin 3 with pin , the back panel on the sound card becomes muted.
*I know Creative does not give any support about doing this, as they will just tell you it can't be done without ordering the platinum version of their sound card. But that is a fib. I think they are just trying to get more money out of the unsuspecting customer, which is not right. I wonder if this thread will get deleted for me posting this.Message Edited by potatopopper on 0-05-2006 0:03 PMMessage Edited by potatopopper on 0-05-2006 0:07 PM

  • How do I change the clock source in Audio/Midi when it's greyed out?

I've tried and tried to change the clock source to eliminate pops and clicks in audio output and input but I just can't change the clock source because it's greyed out - how can I make it changeable?

    Hi, Acoma.
Have you seen the steps and specifics (analog vs. digital inputs) discussed in:
    • "Soundtrack Pro: Setting the correct clock source for your audio interface."
    • "Logic Pro/Express: Digital input not available."
Providing more specifics concerning your exact recording configuration may enable the audio gurus who answer questions here to give you additional assistance. You may also want to try your question on the Discussions for either of Apple's Soundtrack or Logic products, as those contributors are most familiar with audio set-up issues.

  • Tascam US-122 midi interface problem

    Hi,
A week ago I hooked up a US-122 midi interface to my iMac and it worked perfectly. Tonight for some reason, I'm not getting response from it. The USB green light is on and the iMac is detecting it. When I try to play music using iTunes, the song won't begin if the output is set to the US-122. Soon as I change the audio output setting to "Built-in output" iTunes works fine.
I've taken out the driver and reinstalled it. Still no luck. It worked fine for a week, don't understand why it just suddenly stopped working.
    Thanks ahead for any help
    Manny

I'm agree if most of Apple product is more compatible with those kind of devices
But as home musician :) I'm not agree if you think that its not compatible with Windows 8.1, I would say its not compatible yet, because most of that device launched before Windows 8.1 release, some of the manufactured will be update their driver
trough software update or via firmware update (unless that product is discontinue or don't have anymore support)
Example for your Midi devices which TASCAM US-122 Audio/MIDI interface, even that product already discontinued and Windows 8.1 just launched last year. Most of this midi devices is plug and play, its supposed to be depend software that you are using like
    Cubase, garage band or else
My suggestion is find the reliable audio software which support to Windows 8.1 first, and do most of audio processing outside the PC using preamp or mixer, and made the input to the PC using single input soundcard (external or internal)
I've proofed that my Behringer mixer work with both my Windows 8.1 and MacBook via Cube base and garage band. I put all the instrument to mixer and via build in external sound card from Behringer I plug it to my PC, so I Control everything from my mixer
Unless you want to buy high tech mixer with wireless capability it will be awesome, like presonus or else
OS is not the limitation, you can install your Windows PC with Mac OS also you can installed your Mac with Windows OS. Update your Windows PC chipset to get the latest USB peripheral and PCI controller device list
You should posted this question to audio forum, not here, so other professional sound engineer will assist you better. Good luck anyway

  • Tascam US 144

I just purchased my first Mac last week and i love it except for the fact that i cannot get my Audio/MIDI interface to work with it.  It is a Tascam US-144 and it works fine with my PC but doesnt work at all with my Mac.  I installed the drivers for Mac and nothing.  The Tascam utility says that nothing is connected.  Any ideas?  Thanks

OK.  I will provide you step by step what i did and what Tascam had me do in hopes that it helps you figure your issue out.  If this doesnt help you resolve your issue, i recommend contacting Tascam yourself.
    1. I installed the MAC version of the firmware and drivers from the disc that came with my Tascam US-144 and once completed, plug the US-144 into the Mac.  The app for the US-144 said that nothing was attached or it couldnt be found.  Something like that.
    2. So i downloaded the latest driver from the Tascam website.  This showed up some feautres but not all.  The latest drivers were for the MkII.
    3. I had reached out to Tascam about this especially since it is so confusing to figure out what to download on there website.  There is no consistancy with there naming convention for the drivers and firmware.
    4. While on the phone with Tascam support, we uninstalled all versions of tascam craziness and installed just the file for the MkII.
So to be clear, i had to install a driver for a device that i didnt purchase for it to work.  I have the US-144 and the driver for the US-144 Mk II is the only one that would make it work.
5.I restarted my MacBook and once i was logged into the Mac i plugged the US-144 into it and opened Garage band and was able to use it to control Garageband.
I did however notice that if i plugged in the US-144 before turning on the Macbook, the US-144 was never seen unless if i unplugged it and plugged it back in.
    I hope that helps.

  • Having a problem connecting my Tascam FW-1082 DAW interface to Adobe Audition CC

Having a hard time connecting my Tascam FW-1082 hardware/recording interface to Audition CC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know this hardware had no problems hooking up to previous versions of Audition (3.0.1 I believe).

Turn your Firewire device off or shutdown and remove it. Then once in Windows go back to device manager. Double  click on the VIA 1394 device. Select the driver tab. Select update driver and then Browse my computer for driver software. Then select let me pick from the list of device drivers. select the OHCI Legacy driver and then hit next. Finish the wizard and then restart the system. Turn the Firewire device on or shot down and connect it. Then try the Audition again with the Tascam and asio driver. If that doesn't work, uninstall the Tascam driver and make sure you download the latest from their website. Then install the Tascam driver again. Restart and check the results.

  • Can't connect MIDI devices in Audio Midi Setup

In the help for Audio Midi Setup, step 7 says you can connect devices as follows:
"7. To specify the connection between MIDI devices, drag the output or input connectors above the device icon to the corresponding connector on the other device icon."
I can drag out a line from the device ports ("connectors"), but cannot find a way to make those lines "stick" to a second MIDI device or its ports -- i.e., I cannot connect devices like this at all.
Is this just me? Is this feature not yet implemented perhaps?
    Thanks!

Ok, I finally solved this. For whatever reason, I could not set up connections between my auto-detected USB MIDI devices in Audio MIDI Setup -- maybe it is just not designed for this, or maybe I'm still not understanding what to do. i.e., I could not connect my E-MU 0404/USB to any port on my MOTU MIDI Express 128.
However, I was able to configure the individual MIDI interfaces (i.e. the E-MU or the MOTU, separately), using "Add Device" and then connecting between those interface devices and the newly added devices. This was the first time I had seen the "connectors" actually "take" and connect between entities within the Audio MIDI Setup utility, so that was a relief. Presumably doing this informs applications on the Mac how the MIDI system is set up -- I just thought it did more than that, i.e. allow direct routing between MIDI devices using just the utility itself.
I still don't know if I am meant to be able to connect a keyboard to a synth using just Audio MIDI Setup alone (what I had hoped), but I certainly can't seem to get that simple config to work and will have to resort to using some additional software like a sequencer. Not my preference, but c'est la vie.
    Thanks for all the suggestions,
    Stewart.

  • Help on setting up my Tascam us-144 to Adobe 3

Ok here's the thing i just purchased a TASCAM US-144 installed everything it brought, connected my mic to it then opened Adobe Audition 3 ..now here's where i break my head on how to set it up i managed to record a vocal but when i go back to play it no sound comes out .Only when i go to edit the vocal by double clicking it then sound comes out! so in the actual window i have no sound! must be some setting anyone please help me by giving me step by step on how to correctly set it up ..

I'm not quite sure of a more technical solution.
But something to try out that is maybe a simple mistake. Check the buttons on the left. The are 3 of them. M, S, and R.
R is obviously, to record. S is solo, meaning you only hear that track. And M is mute. It will completely Mute that track.
Check if the M looks "illuminated". That is the only way I've been able to  reproduce that problem.
    Hope it helps.

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
(The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
-I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
-I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
-So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
-Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
-How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
-I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
-So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.
