How do I connect my Apple TV (V1) to my Airport Extreme via ethernet/crossover? I'm having troubles.

I've spent the last couple of couple of days trying to set this up, so....
My modem is connected to the wall, and my airport extreme.
The airport extreme (7.6.1) is connected via ethernet to my 20" iMac (10.7.3) and a USB printer.
Before now, I have been using wi-fi for the Apple TV for internet and access to files on the iMac.
I installed 2 ethernet cables, one regular AND an ethernet crossover cable through my walls. I've tried with both cables, but my Apple TV does not appear in iTunes, or in the Airport Utility.
Using the Crossover cable, the LED is lights up on both ends (Apple TV and Airport), so this is probably the one to use.
The firewall on my mac is disabled, and my Airport is in Bridge mode.
The modem itself will picks up the Apple TV listed twice, but I am unsure if these are sumiltaneous (wifi and ethernet, I assume), as the license lasts for 24 hours, and it's been forced to swith between wired/wifi within that time.
What could I be doing wrong?
(PS iTunes is up to date, as is the apple TV)

I have tried that but with the crossover cable I get the green light on the router Ethernet port.
Using the standard Ethernet cable I do not get the light.
Thanks for your help.

  • Connecting 2 Airport Extremes via ethernet if my intent is to improve wireless signal in a different area of my home

Connect the second Airport Extreme via ethernet, all is good.  However, question is; do I use the same Wireless name as main Airport Extreme or do I need to name is differently? And if differently, how do devices connect to the strongest signal?

Yes. If you want your wireless devices to "see" only one wireless network, specify the exact same wireless network name, security and password for the second Extreme.
And if differently, how do devices connect to the strongest signal?
If you choose to specify different names, and your Network Preferences are configured to not "ask to join new networks" your Mac will automatically switch from one to the other, but it does not do this just because one becomes stronger than the other as you move your MacBook Pro away from one and toward the other. It will switch networks when the wireless signal falls below a threshold that is not user-selectable. It will do that whether or not you specify different wireless network names.

  • How can i connect my Panasonic Viera Link TV with Airport Extreme?

I use the Panasonic adaptor that came with my Blu-ray player. It worked with my Panasonic plasma TV when I used a NetGear router, but I recently changed to an Airport Extreme router and now neither the Blue-ray nor TV will connect. They find my network, but when I enter the password, after waiting a while, I get an error message that the network timed out. My iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro and MacAir all connect fine to this router from anywhere in the apartment. I am not using the wrong case when entering the letters of my password. It's exactly the same passsword that I enter on all my devices. Please help me connect the Panasonic TV to the Airport Extreme--I do NOT want to use ethernet. I want to use the wireless connection. Again--it worked fine withe the Netgear router, but does not connect wiht teh Airport Extreme.  Thanks!

Checking the specifications of your camera, I see it as a Firewire out .
DV:  4-pin, digital input/output, IEEE 1394 standard     (IEEE 1394 is Firewire)
So you should be able to connect it to your Mini via the Firewire 800 port.
You will need a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable because the Firewire on the camera is a 400.
But I couldn't fine any info that confirmed this model is compatible with iMovie if this is what you plan to use for editing.
There is a work around but it is not very easy.
Simplest way to import your videos is still Elgato video capture, but it will not give you the same quality as DV

  • How do I connect an external hard drive to the airport extreme using the Window's based airport utility?

No, you can't. Only a printer. You can with the Extreme, though.

  • Connect to internet via airport extreme via ethernet cable and no airport c

I just bought a MacBook with Airport Extreme, got it set up today and it works great, got online, etc. However, I have an iMac with no airport card. I can't figure out how to get both computers hooked up on the internet at the same time. The MacBook works only when the ethernet cable in in the LAN slot on the Extreme but won't work through the WAN slot. I have tried hooking up both ethernet cables into the Extreme, just the iMac, and nothing works. I don't need to connect wirelessly through the iMac so I don't want to buy an Airport card if I don't need one. I just don't want to plug and unplug the ethernet cable everytime I want to use the MacBook or the iMac. My modem from Verizon only has one ethernet slot. Any ideas?

You mean Airport Extreme Base station?
Here's what you need to do:
    1. Disconnect your Verizon Modem & Airport Extreme
    2. Connect the ethernet cable from the Verizon modem to the WAN of the AE
    3. Connect another ethernet cable from the LAN port of the AE to your iMac
    4. Turn on Verizon Modem
    5. Once all lights on the modem have turned on, turn on the Airport Extreme
    6. On your iMac click on Applications --> Utilities --> Airport Admin Utility
    7. Setup a Wireless network using this or the Airport Setup Assistant, located in the same Utility folder.
    8. After you have created the wireless network, connect to it on your macbook
If for some strange reason you still can't figure it out, refer to the product manual or check:

  • Can I connect my Linksys WRT160N V3 with Airport Extreme via ethernet cable?

I have a Linksys WRT160N V3 router (Living Room) to my cable modem but the wifi does not reach certain spots in the house where its necessary.  If I buy a Airport Extreme and place it in my bedroom and connect it with an ethernet cable that I have connected with my iMac will the airport extreme work as a wifi extender since wifi does not reach my room?

Yes, the AE can be simply put in bridge mode so it will become an AP and set the wireless to create a wireless network.. you can then use same name and same security as linksys.. this is called roaming network.

Although the apple instructions have two apple routers, any two wireless routers will work the same way.

  • Problem connecting switch to Airport Extreme via ethernet

I might not be in the right forum with this question, as it relates to connecting the Airport Extreme in a wired / ethernet configuration.  I am okay with the wireless functions.  This is the only forum I could find dedicated to Airport issues.
I want to provide Internet via ethernet cable to multiple devices that are 20 feet away from my Airport Extreme.  When I connect one of the LAN ports on the Extreme to a NetGear switch, I get no Internet connectivity from any of the other available ports on the switch.  I have tested the cables and they are fine, and I do get Internet connectivity if I plug the ethernet cable coming out of one of the LAN ports on the Extreme directly into a device (Bluray player) rather than go through the switch.
My setup is as follows:  Modem --> old Netgear FWAG114 wired / wireless router --> AirPort Extreme (wired connection, into the WAN port).  My iMac is connected via ethernet to the Extreme, and an HP6500 printer is connected via both ethernet and USB (is that redundant?).  I want to connect another available LAN port to the switch on the other side of the room.
A friend suggested that it may be that I need to configure the Extreme to permit multiple IP addresses to be made available through the switch, but I am not tech-savvy enough to understand if that's the issue and, if so, how to accomplish it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I am copying some of the instructions from the NetGear FWAG114 router, which lead me to believe that it is a managed switch:
    "LAN IP Address Management
By default, the [NETGEAR] router will function as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server, providing TCP/IP configuration for all computers connected to the router's LAN.
If another device on your network will be the DHCP server, or if you will manually configure all devices, select the Disable DHCP Server option.
If the DHCP server is located on the Internet side of the router, select the Use External DHCP Server option, and specify the external DHCP IP address.
To use the router as DHCP server (the default option), select Use Router as DHCP Serveroption.
Starting IP Address: This box specifies the first of the contiguous addresses in the IP address pool. 192.168.0.2 is the default start address.
Ending IP Address: This box specifies the last of the contiguous addresses in the IP address pool. 192.168.0.51 is the default ending address."
Should I elect to have the Netgear use an external DHCP Server and let the AEBSn be the DHCP server?

  • Solution to connecting Photosmart to Airport Extreme via Ethernet

Occasionally Airport Extreme flips out and goes wrong. Then you discover that none of your computers on the network can connect to the Photosmart printer using the Ethernet from the Airport Extreme. I've tried everything to restore this. Here's the answer I've found works.
Turn your printer off. Rest to the factory defaults on the Airport Extreme using the Airport Utility software. Reset anything you need to (e.g. password) turn your printer back on.
On the printer menu, go to Settings and Network. Reset the Network Settings.
Now go back into your HP Utility and it should see your printer on IP and Bonjour.
Go to System Settings, Print and Fax, and simply add your printer.
Do let me know if this causes any issues but it's the only thing that's worked for me.

Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Connecting printer to Airport extreme via Ethernet

I have just setup a wireless home network using Airport extreme. My desktop windows xp pc does not have a wireless connection and is connected to the internet by ethernet directly pluged in to the DSL modem.
My Canon printer is connected to the Airport's USB port.
Is there a way I can connect the desktop pc to the printer via the Airport's Ethernet connection?
    I appreciate any help, herb

Welcome to the discussions forum Herb.
I have just setup a wireless home network using Airport extreme.
From what you described, you're not done yet.
As I understand it, you're using your MacBook Pro to print to the Canon wirelessly through the Airport Extreme, but your Windows computer can't do that since it has no wireless card. Furthermore, you can't use your MacBook Pro to get on the internet when your DSL modem is connected directly to your PC. Is that right?
The right way to do things is to connect the DSL modem to the *Airport Extreme*, not a computer. Since your PC isn't wireless, its Ethernet port ought to be connected to the Airport's LAN port, and not directly to the DSL modem.
To reconfigure your equipment the right way, do the following:
    1. Power down your Windows computer.
    2. Unplug the DSL modem.
    3. Unplug the Airport Extreme.
    4. Power down all your other equipment too, for good measure.
    5. Unplug the Windows computer from the DSL modem, and connect it to a LAN port on the Airport Extreme.
    6. Using another Ethernet cable, connect the Airport Extreme's WAN port to the DSL modem.
    7. Plug in the DSL modem. Wait a few moments for it to complete its power up sequence. Some take longer than others.
    8. Plug in the Airport Extreme. After a few moments, its LED should glow steady green, meaning it's communicating with the DSL modem.
If the light blinks amber and never turns green, that means you'll have to reconfigure the Airport using Airport Utility. Not a problem, but if that happens you ought to write back for more help.
    9. Boot your computers and the printer. The order isn't important.
Now, check to make sure you can communicate with everything the way you have been used to doing:
    1. Log in to your Windows computer and make sure you can load a web page.
    2. Log in to your MacBook and make sure you can still print to the Canon.
    3. Make sure you can load a web page with your MacBook Pro.
    4. Finally, you ought to be able to print with your PC as you're accustomed to. If you can't, you will need to "add a printer" in Windows so it can find the Canon again.
    Good luck.

  • HP F4400 printer - connecting to airport extreme via ethernet

I'm trying to install a HP Deskjet F4400 All in One printer on network using Airport Extreme using USB port. Deleted the print driver and reinstalled from the original disk. Unplugged everything and reconnected. Can connect directly to my MacBookPro (OSx v10.6.8) and print just can't print using network. Get "printer offline" message.  Any suggestions?

When you use network printing, you can't have the printer selected from the LAST location (USB) because that printer technically doesn't exist anymore because you moved it.
Even though the name of the new location of the printer looks the same as from the last location, technically they are different printers as far as the OSX is concerned.

  • How do i connect my apple ID with itunes?

I keep on trying to sign into itunes with my apple id, but it never works . How do I connect my apple ID with itunes?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
You may find that when you try to do this, the password for your old ID it isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

How do i connect my apple tv to my tv if my tv doesnt have an hdmi input ??? i have the apple tv  2 and didnt realize when i bought it so what cord do i need to make it work ???

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

  • How do you connect two Apple ID's?

How do you connect two Apple ID's to one another?

Yes. You can sync multipl iDevices on the same computer using the same Apple ID. You can each have different configurations of apps, books, music, etc. or have identical configurations. In this way, however, your common data - contacts, mail, calendar will be the same on both iDevices.
The Apple ID doesn't distinguish one phone from another, only how the phone will sync to a computer. The Apple ID is how iTunes knows to which computer a phone syncs. And, the Apple ID determines who is the registered owner of downloaded and purchased items via iTunes.
