  • My modem has a USB connection - how do I connect to new iMac

I'm so frustrated. I'm writing this on my G4 PowerBook, which is connected to the internet using a broadband dsl modem. This connects to the machine through a usb port. On my desk is a brand new iMac but I can't get it connected through a usb port. The internet connection setup seems to require me to use the ethernet port but my modem can't connect to it. Is there a way to connect using usb or do I need a new modem. If so, what do I need - I'm in the UK.
    Please help me someone.

    Hi Magpie Mike,
    Welcome to the forum.
My strong recommendation would be to throw away the usb adsl modem and invest in an ethernet router. USB ADSL modems require continual driver updates and are the source of many problems, from system freezes, to Kernel Panics and everything in between.
A good router can be picked up for around £50-£60. Alternatively, get in touch with your ISP as they may provide you with one free of charge.
With a router, you'll then be able to connect more than one computer to the broadband connection, dependent on how many ethernet ports are available. You may also want to consider a router with wireless capabilities which would allow you the freedom to move around your home with the PowerBook and connect to the internet, read/send emails etc.

  • I am trying to connect my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password, so I reset it and it is working.  I can't figure out how to reset my router password and lock it on my iMac.

I am connecting my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password so I pushed the reset button and my computer was able to connect.  The problem is, I can't figure out how to set my new password and lock the router.  I went to the Buffalo website and downloaded the CD, as I can't find that either.  I can't open any of it because it says it is Windows and can't open it.  I am new to Apple!

    Ah, new to routers too.
Perhaps it's best to have a local computer support person come set you up?
To explain everything would require writing a book here.
But this is what you want basically.
Router, new Wireless N, firmware updated.
1: Two accounts, one admin, one guest Internet access. Random +30 plus character lenght passwords each preferred.
(guest password to max password length of any iDevices)
2: Encryption: WPA2 AES. No Ping. No remote access. No MAC filtering. Visible.
3: Guest access on devices and computers only.  Passwords written down and stored.
4: OpenDNS preferred but not mandatory.
If you get OpenDNS, you can log into their website for free and set parental controls on things like inappropriate sites for children. So whatever device is used on your network can't access a large portion of those sites (nothing is perfect) by most users who are not technical oriented.
What your doing now is running the bare bones unsecure router which can be used harmfully against you.
Even a Apple Airport router has to be very well secured. The defautl cd and out of the box setup is not a secure solution.

    Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

    Thanks,

  • Have a canon dc310 camcorder that uses mini dvd's. How can I get my new Imac to read these dvd's?Camcorder unable to connect to computer. Will a mini dvd adapter work or do I need to purchase an external dvd rom device? Which device works well with a mac?

I have a Canon DC310 camcorder that uses mini dvd's and doesn't have the ability to connect to a computer.  How can I get my new Imac to read these dvd's?  Will the mini dvd adapter work or do I need to purchase an external dvd rom device?  Which device works well with the Mac?  Do I need anything else to get the dvd material onto my mac?  Thanks!!

No DV port in camcorder.  Just a yellow AV port/hole.  I did find a Canopus ADVC110 device in a box that was bought several years ago to convert VHS tapes onto DVD's.  Can I use this with a Mac?  Could I connect a dvd player to the Canopus and transfer the disks onto my Mac?  Or, connect the camcorder via AV port to the Canopus and that to the Mac and transfer that way?  Thanks again!

  • How do I connect my 27" iMac to the HDMI port of my LCD TV ?

How do I connect my 27"iMac to the HDMI Port of my LCD TV ?

    I have the 22" imac
beside it I have an 24" dell monitor
I used a miniDisplayport->DVi converter in the TB port of the imac
thats the best performance because DVI like Displayport are both digital interfaces
    same deal with hdmi really
so you need a miniDisplayport to dvi or hdmi depending on the inputs on your tv
and a cable and thats it

  • How do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system prefer

how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences.  what else do I need to do?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

  • How can I connect my new 11" air by thunderbolt to my DVI-D monitor?

How can I connect my new 11" air by thunderbolt to my DVI-D monitor? I have seen mini-display to dvi-d, but am unsure that this will work with thunderbolt port?

With a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter. Mini displayport and TB are one in the same.

  • How do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt display

how do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt displa,  It arrives tomorrow?

It has a built-in Thunderbolt cable, see here: http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
So assuming your mini has a thunderbolt port (you said it's new so I assume it does), you'd just plug the display's thunderbolt cable into the mini's Thunderbolt port.

  • How do I connect a new Thunderbolt MBP to and old 23" HD Cinema Display ADC port

A question Im sure many have asked but I cant find a straight forward answer.
I simply will be buying a new thunderbolt MBP 15 and NEED to connect it an old 23" Apple Cinema Display that uses the old ADC connector.
Can I do it and if so how? I realise theres a potential under powering issue?
    Thanks

    Hello Sigh
I am sure there is no way to get your ADC connector display to function with your new Mac Book Pro.
I tried everying I could and gave up and purchased a 24" Apple refurbbished Cinema Display for $599 + tax on 4/27/2011. The Apple part number is FBXXXXL/A, Model A1287.
Gave my  year 2002 ADC 22" display to a friend.

Got my new MBP 2011 today. Hooked it up to my 23" Apple Cinema Display fine, using the Apple DVI to ADC converter > Mini Display port adaptors. I could then mirror display, but only at 1440 x 900 resolution.
My dream is to have it like my old laptop--I mostly leave it shut, and main display is on the Cinema Display. So far, if I close the laptop lid on my new MBP, display shuts off. Also, can't get it to bump up the resolution to 1920.
    Sigh.

  • How do I connect my new Macbook Pro to an LG HX300G digital projector?

I just got this new computer and the connections are different. I realize that we now have thunderbolt instead of the video connection I had on my last MacBook. I have to teach a class on Friday. How can I connect my new computer to the projector? There doesn't seem to be an adaptor cable made for this. The projector is relatively new, expensive, and I can't buy another one. The video cable from the projector is a PC-type thing with two screws.

Thanks so much! I found exactly what I need. I just needed the language. I will use VGA for this purpose but might order the HDMI cable too as you never know what you're going to run across with weird equipment out there. I appreciate your help.

One of these should work, depending on the projector. Just note both will not allow you to play protected movies on the projector.

You can use the same installer, if you kept it, and the same serial number, if you still have it, and the old serial number, if it was an upgrade.
