How do i contol mac mini with my i pad

I use my year old mack mini to run multiple professional music programs and other simple programs like pandora and itunes.  I would like to use my ipad like it is a touchscreen monitor for the mini from across my private wifi or bluetooth in my studio.  Any suggestions on a app or how to set up?

There are a number of applications out there that do it, however  you may not be satisfied with the performance. Much of it has to do with where the iPad is located in relation to the MM. If they are in the same room, with a Wi-Fi connection and the Wi-Fi has little traffic on it then the performance might be OK. However if you are in a concert hall where the are hundreds of people all fighting for Wi-Fi bandwidth your performance will be poor.
For example here is one I found by Googling:

  • How slow should a Mac mini with i7 2.3 GHz quad core be?

I am really disappointed about how mind numbingly slow this computer is for even the most basic tasks.  I'm wondering is something wrong with it or is this just what happens when you don't have an SSD?
I have been using exclusively SSDs in my computers since about late 2009 or early 2010 and since then I have never really felt my computer was utlra slow.  I got a Mac mini as a temporary computer when my MacBook Pro started blowing up logic boards every other week while it is endlessly being "repaired".  Since this has the same exact processor I expected it to be reasonably speedy at least for simple tasks like web browsing, email, word processing, etc. (no heavy graphics work) but it's not.  Every experience is hard drive *crunch* *crunch* *crunch*, wait wait wait, *crunch* *crunch* *crunch*.  It's really very slow even on the simplest tasks and if I am running a few things it's like molasses.  According to activity monitor as expected the CPU is not taxed in the slightest.
Is there something wrong or is this just what it's like going back to hard drives that spin?  Is there something I should be testing or looking into?   At least I can say that it doesn't crash.
Timed with a stop watch it takes about 10-15 seconds to launch any of the following with nothing else open: Excel (blank workboook), Mail app, Firefox, etc.  It's worse with lots of things open.  Always tons audible hard drive activity no matter what I'm doing.

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

In a broad sense it's probably best to think of the mini as a full desktop computer, simply shrunk down to a small size - that way you'll get the idea of how good it is rather than risk the impression that it's small size is in any real way indicative of it's performance. It isn't.
The new 2.0GHz mini is very close in performance to the original dual processor G5 computer (advertised as the fastest desktop on earth when it was released in 2003). Leaving aside the advertising hype, it was (and remains) an incredibly powerful system in very extensive use in video, image and publishing industries. Given the mini has as much raw power, just a slower hard drive and no internal expansion options, you can see that it is, in it's own right, a very capable system.
Just how capable depends a lot on the specific uses you have in mind for it of course. It'll cope well with all the normal computing tasks people typically run - word processing, internet, email, photos, etc, and would be suited to a lot of far more intensive tasks, including image editing work. Gaming is a bit suspect though, with the limitations of the on-board video sub-system making some games run well and others less so.
There should be absolutely no problem with Leopard when it is released, though of course it isn't possible to give a definitive statement on it since as yet Leopard is still in development. However, at this time developer builds are being run on existing minis of lower specification, and historically Apple have typically ensured new OS versions are backwards compatible with older hardware platforms - certainly recent ones. Given the newly updated mini has just been announced and is likely to remain on sale for some time as a result without further change, and Leopard is due in a couple of months, it in highly improbable the mini won't run it, and run it well.
It will drive a 24" display since the maximum resolution of the mini is 1920x1200 (DVI) or 2048x1536 (VGA).

  • How to connect an external HD to a 2007 Mac Mini with FireWire

I have a 2007 Mac Mini with a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 1 GB of RAM, and an 80 GB HD. I recently migrated to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.5) from Tiger (OS X 10.4.11). I purchased a 500 GB external HD from Seagate which I want to use to back up both my wife's notebook PC and my Apple. My Mac Mini has a Firewire 400 (6-pin) female connector on the back. The external HD can connect to a Mac via a Firewire 800 male 9-pin connector. How do I connect the male FW 800 9-pin to the female FW 400 6-pin port? This may sound obvious, but the solution is more challenging than I imagined. The 9- to 6-pin adaptors I've seen online combine a female 6-pin end with a male 9-pin end. I need the reverse of that (female 9-pin FW 800 to male 6-pin FW 400 adaptor)! I bought a 9- to 6-pin cable this week, but ended up with two male 9-pin plug ends, and no way to connect them. Is a solution available using FW, or should I bail and go with a USB 2.0 connection instead?

Most external firewire drives have removable cables that plug into "female" ports on the hard drive. Is the firewire cabling on your external drive different from this? (What is the model number of the external drive?)
If the cable is removeable, simply buy a 6-pin-to-9-pin firewire cable (male on both ends).
monoprice.com is a good place to find these cheaply and in the length you need.

  • How do I set up my Time Machine and Mac Mini with Lion Server so i have one wifi loop in the house?

    HELP!
So I have had a Time Machine wifi loop at the house for approx. 6 years. I run two Macbooks, 2 iPhones, 2 iTouch and a Samsung Smart Blueray on the loop.
I just bought a Mac Mini with Lion Server. When setting it up I'm not sure what or how I managed to do, but I now have 2 wifi loops, one doesn't lock and niether will support the Samsung BlueRay. Also, each time I want to go online with one of the other Mac devices i have to relog into the wifi loop.
Can someone please walk me through the fix. The mac Mini is plugged straight into the Time Machine to recevie its internet connection.
    Thanks!

You often see this limit of 10 clients in wireless hotspots but I have yet to see it in an adsl modem.. most strange way to pay for a service that is really irrelevant how many clients you use.
Have a go .. I recently setup a TC to help a guy run his Roku.. and this setup worked well.. I have no idea if it can work in your case.
Lets say the IP you get is 192.168.2.1-10 .. doesn't matter what it really is. And the adsl modem is 192.168.2.254
(Assuming they are private addresses.. if they are public IP you can just use the DHCP and NAT. )
But go to the airport utility.. I think you need to run v5 at least to change DNS.. but you can do the same thing in v6 using static but no dns changes.
Now you set the IP of the TC manually.. This address might need to be in the dhcp range of the modem to work. You can set the DNS to same IP as the router address.. ie home address of the modem. Or you can use another DNS.. whatever you like.
Then set DHCP for clients that will join.. this can then expand the scope of addresses..
It worked without a NAT error.. although I am not sure exactly how.. on paper it should not be able to work but did.. have a go.. otherwise there is perhaps another way.. but it is complicated.
Give us an example from a computer plugged into the modem of what IP .. subnet mask .. Gateway and DNS you get. Then I can fine tune the values for it.

  • How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)?

How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)? Also...what is the best method (less lag) for screen sharing?
I own a mac mini Quad Server 2.0 i7 and I use it for audio production.  It's great but I need to travel with it. I was hoping some form of screen sharing could be useful using the macbook air to control the mac mini.  Therefore, I'd be using the stronger processor of the mac mini but would still be using the keyboard and trackpad from the air.
    My two problems:
    1.  I can't depend on wifi to make this happen. Wifi is not always available when travleing.  What would be the best way to configure a LAN connection?
    2.  The less lag the better for screen sharing.  Which apps are fastest?
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT204291 3th. gen apple TV with 5.2.1 and mac mini with 10.8.3, only black screen on TV after selecting Apple TV on the airplay icon. how to troubleshoot?

I have a 3th Gen Apple TV and a late 2012 mac mini with IOS 10.8.3
    - Connected thru HDMI to an ASUS monitor
    - Apple tv connected with wire
    - Mac Mini connected wireless.
    - I can see the Airplay icon on the screen
    - I can select my apple TV on the icon pull-down menu (first time it asked me for apple TV password)
    - Once selected, my monitor resolution changes and apple TV goes to a blank screen. On the pull-down menu, my apple TV papears selected and the option "match desktop size to:" is selected for my Apple TV.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
    Additional Info:
    - I can stream from iTunes music with no problem
    - From an Air (on same wireless network) I can mirror my display. And form iPad and iPhone I can stream video and music.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

    HI
I have a mac mini with my TV as a display. My display includes the taskbar but no menu bar, how do I see menu bar???

Make sure you are using a 1080p capable TV.   Some TVs have pixel level video ratio adjustment.  Sometimes that can force the menubar to be visible if it is the only display connected to the machine. Sometimes you have to go to your hard drive's Applications -> System Preferences -> Displays and drag the white bar on top of the display's representation to the other display.  You can only have one primary display with menubar.
Lastly, for non-1080p capable displays, DisplayConfigX or SwitchResX offer pixel level adjustments through software.

  • Can someone tell me how to install webcam isight A1023 on my mac mini with OS 10.8

Please help me to install my webcam isight A1023 on my mac mini with OS 10.8

All you need do is follow the instructions in the iSight User Guide (Manual) that came with your old external iSight.
Neither your system info nor your post identify which Mac mini you use.  If your mini is a newer model that has only a Firewire 800 port, and, if you don't already have one that works, you will need a FW400-800 adapter or cable.
Be aware of Possible Conflicts with Firewire iSight. If you encounter such problems with your mini system and cannot resolve them, you can workaround the Firewire issues by using a Mac compatible USB external camera.

  • Will Mac Mini with OSX Server 10.6 Snow Leopard be able to fit my needs?

    Hello,
The office i work in is a Mac environment.
Is this unit powerful enough to support 20 people? This is the setup i was thinking:
Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server - 2.66GHz : Dual 500GB:
1st Internal drive - OS only
2nd Internal drive - OS backup via CarbonCopyCloner
Ministack USB drive - Data backup via Time Machine (file shares etc on server from services)
Firewire DroboPro 16TB - Client Time Machine Backups via the Network.
Would the Mac Mini be powerfull enough to support normal OS X Server services, and at the same time act as a client Time-Machine backup via the network?
    Thanks,
    -Mike

The answer to your question depends on how many of the services you intend to offer.
If you are just going to use the Mini as a File, Print, and directory server, then it will work fine.
If you intend it to run as your web, email, database, and iChat server, you might be pushing things a bit much.
Your drive layout looks appropriate for a simple file server, so I would tentatively say yes, it looks like it would do what you currently require.
