How do I use airport utillity with Time Capsule(or any airport extreme) over the internet without mobile me? iCloud has disabled this function. The mac's that I have not upgraded to icloud still see my routers over the internet with mobile me enabled. Are these routers obsolete now or will there be a firmware update to use icloud?
i want to do the same. i tried entering my @me.com account and does not work, but if I tried to go to icloud.com and using my @me.com works
why?

May I still be able to use all features of Time Capsule, including remote access over the internet?You will have setup issues.. as the latest AC model requires a Mac or iOS device.. eventually apple will release a windows version of the utility.. and the current one does partly work but Apple seem in no hurry.
You can find a Mac or iPad equipped friend to do the setup.. once setup the Windows computer can use it.
BUTT you cannot access it from remote..
Not with windows. You need BTMM and iCloud account. AFAIK even with those you cannot reach the TC.
You can do it manually.. using a vpn. Buy a proper vpn router and use a vpn client on the windows computer.. the TC would be in bridge to the network..
Apple really did not make this for windows.. and SMB access is only provided on LAN access not WAN. -

Much appreciated.Copying a backup is actually a poor way to make reliable backups.. because an error creeps into the backup and the copy simply replicates it.
I would use a USB drive plugged directly into the computer, and use a software like CCC to make a bootable clone.. I tell you honestly.. it is just wonderful when you have disk issue in a computer to be able to plug in a hard drive and boot the computer from it. Especially Macs with their hard to reach drives. Changing a drive on a PC laptop or desktop computer is usually trivial. It is far from trivial in a Mac.
Use two USB drives and swap them over to offsite weekly. Then use cloud for incremental in between.. or a combo of the TM .. TM can backup to multiple destinations.

I have a Cisco System3 modem, feeding an Airport Extreme, which connects wirelessly a Timecapsules and an Airport Express both of which extend the network, ie send out more WiFi signal. The system worked well for a long time, say a year and a half and then it started dropping out. All the lights on the modem and airport Extreme stay green, but the other two components are blinking yellow. I've tried limiting the channels, but there are few sources in my neighborhood. I have tried resetting the Extreme which worked for a week and now it's back to its random disconnect behavior. I have read some of these blogs and no one seems to know what to do, especially not Apple. Do I just get another router or what? What do I lose if I use a non Apple router and what would you suggest?

I don't have a setup like yours, but might be able to offer some assistance.
Basically I have two jacks, a TC and an AE and I'd like to create a roaming network. Both of them are set to bridge mode with the same SSID, WPA2 security, same password, etc.
This would be the normal way to set up a roaming network, but the wild card here is that we don't know anything about how the main router that supplies the ethernet connections (valid IP addresses) to the condos might be configured.
For example, most apartments, hotels, etc that provide ethernet jacks usually limit the number of devices that can connect to each jack. Hotels tend to limit this to one or two devices. I counted six devices that you say will work properly plus a few more. Since you have two separate ethernet jacks, you may be looking at a situation where each jack is allocated a total of 4 devices, or valid IP addresses.
The bottom line here is that we won't be able to make much progress until we know more how the main router there has been configured. Is it possible for you to ask the complex manager (who will probably need to ask the IT guy) how many devices are allowed to connect per ethernet jack? Another way to ask the same question is how may valid IP addresses will each ethernet jack allow?
If you can, could I ask you to perform an experiment? Rather than have both the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule each connect to a separate ethernet jack, can you temporarily move one device near the other and connect them together using an ethernet cable? (Or, use a long ethernet cable if you don't want to move either device) LAN <-> port on one to LAN <-> port on the other. In other words, you'll only be using one of the ethernet ports in the condo for this experiment.
Any difference in performance or number of devices allowed to connect?

Network set up using airport extreme, time capsule and airport express
I have searched for relevant answers but can only find different bits here and there.
My set up is as follows:
I have a Linksys wireless router running a stable wireless network for the other computer users in the house and wish to create an extended, additional network using airport extreme connected to the Linksys by ethernet to create the network and then time capsule close to my Mac Mini on my desktop and airport express at the other end of the house to try and extend the range of the network.
I have been trying for 4 days to set this up but without success. I have tried all of the options mentioned in different posts, using WDS, extending a new network etc. I can get connection between the three devices but monitoring on iStumbler there appears to be little improvement in the strength of the signal, iStumbler also shows the time capsule dropping it's signal totally every 10 or so seconds for a few seconds and then I get a positive signal strength for another ten seconds or so.
Can anyone help, it is driving me insane. I am a recent convert to apple computing and have been hugely impressed with all products until now. The claim that the set up of these wireless products is simple seems to be very exaggerated.
I am happy to provide any relevant system or hardware information.

Then the correct setting for Connection Sharing on the AirPort Extreme would be "Off (Bridge Mode)".
If I set Connection Sharing to "Share a public IP address", I'm told that: "The DCHP range you have entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your Apple Wi-Fi base station"
Exactly. You have two routers....The BT device and the AirPort Extreme in series with both of them trying to act as the "main" router when you configure the AirPort this way. That won't work.
Only one can be the main router, and it must be the BT device in your setup. So, the AirPort Extreme....and any other AirPorts on your network must be setup to work in Bridge Mode to allow the network to operate correctly. -
I have an AirPort Extreme Time Capsule wifi router and I just moved to a new house and I need to relocate the device without losing any of my old backups from my old mac as well as my new Mac! I could really use some advice on how to do it without any problems! I really appreciate it!
Physical location has no bearing on anything, since you're also moving your network and all other devices. Just plug everything in and it should work just as it did before.

It has no ability to back itself up.. unlike all other NAS in the market. It is therefore likely one day you will lose all your files unless you seriously work out how to backup.
The TC is slow to spin up the hard disk and fast to spin down. iTunes and iPhoto will continually lose connection to their respective libraries.
iPhoto in particular is easy to corrupt when you move photos over wireless into the library.. once corrupted all is corrupt. A single photo will ruin it all.. so backup is utterly essential.

How to change file ownership/permission on Airport Extreme Time Capsule
I have a 3TB Airport Extreme Time Capsule that currently have a folder with a number of files. The problem is it won't let me delete some of these files because I don't have permission. On a mac it would be trivial to either take ownership or change my permissions. Any ideas on how I can do this on the TC?

Your first post seemed to say that some specific files couldn't be deleted. If you know any of their names, see if one is locked. if not, that isn't the problem. If it is, unlock it and try to delete. If it still won't delete, that's not the problem, either (or at least not all of it).
How can I just make all file unlocked since I have no idea which of the tens of thousands of file are at fault?
I know in OSX its easy to change permissions on a folder and then propagate that change to all child foders and files. Does locking/unlocking work the same?
If you don't know of any specific files, try creating one, locking it, then seeing if you can delete it.
There doesn't seem to be any way to unlock all files in a folder.
Do you want to delete everything on the TC? If so, just erase it with Airport Utility -- only takes seconds.
EDIT: These files wouldn't be in Time Machine backups, would they? If so, you can only delete entire backups via the Finder, not individual files or folders. But the message OSX usually sends when you try that says so fairly clearly.

I am a first time user of the new airport extreme time capsule 2TB. I use a macbook pro and imac. I installed the router today and got on wirelessly. BUT I cannot get my 2 printers that were previously wireless to find the router signal. The worked fine on my current set up OS Mounitain Lion 10.8.4. Apple tells me it is the printer mfr issue and printer companies tell me it is apple issue. Any help appreciated.

Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.

2TB airport extreme time capsule says it's 'full'?
I am unable to complete a time machine back up to a 2TB airport extreme time capsule because it is 'full' - what is going on? I thought time machine automatically deleted the oldest back up so there is always room? Also I don't understand how I could fill 2TB? Thanks!
That's what I thought too. Just tried again & I get "Backup Failed - there isn't enough space on airport". When I click on 'details' it suggests I "Select a larger backup disk or make the backup smaller by excluding files." Any suggestions?

Can I connect my Airport Extreme Time Capsule via ethernet to another router (non-Apple)?
I've been trying to figure this out for a few hours and have gotten nowhere. I have an Archer C7 AC1750 router set up in my office, connected to my Zoom 5341 DOCSIS 3.0 Modem; this has been my main router and has worked fine. I have moved some things around and now have my PS3 and PS4 in my master bedroom but can no longer hook them up via ethernet to the Archer C7. I have run ethernet through the attic into the master bedroom and want to use my Airport Extreme Time Capsule as a way to hook up the consoles via ethernet. If I can use the Airport Extreme to extend my wireless network back to the bedrooms that is even better, although that is an afterthought.
I am not sure what the settings need to be to make this happen. I have searched and tried a number of things but have not found a working solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Please start over with a default reset on the Time Capsule. This will not affect any of the stored data that you might have on the drive. You can use the same device name and password that you used before if you wish.
Power up the Time Capsule for a few minutes. Then hold in the reset button firmly for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable connection from the Archer router connects to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
Open up AirPort Utility
Click on Other WiFi Devices
Click on Time Capsule xxxxxx
AirPort Utility will suggest a setup, which you want to ignore
Instead, click the Other Options button
Select the Create a new wireless network setting and click Next
In the Network Name box, enter the exact name of your Archer wireless network
In the Base Station name box, enter a name that you want to use for the Time Capsule device
Uncheck the box to use a single password
In the Network Password box, enter the password for the Archer wireless network
Verify on the next line
In the Base Staion box, enter a password that you want to use as a device password for the Time Capsule
Verify on the next line
Click Next and wait while the AirPort Utility creates a network
Ignore the step about unplugging the modem and click Next
Do not enable the Guest Network option and click Next
Wait while the network is being set up. When you see the message that the wireless network is available, click Done
The Time Capsule will now appear in AirPort Utility with a blinking amber light
Click on the Time Capsule icon, and then click on Edit in the next small box that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Change the setting for Router Mode from DHCP and NAT to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update at the lower right and click Continue
Wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart and you should have a green light
It would be an excellent idea to power off both the Time Capsule and Archer router now, wait a minute, then start the Archer router and let it run a minute. Then, start the Time Capsule up and give it a minute
You should be all set. The Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are now operable and the wireless network has been extended using AES encryption. -
Airport Extreme, Time Capsule and N and G

A quick background. I can't have wires, other than from my iMac to my Airport. So I use wireless. I like the N speed from my mac to my fileserver and even though it is slow compared to ethernet a chronosync job is just fine over night. The problem is I have to use G for my xbox and wii, which seems to reduce the speed of the connection.
I have been looking into getting a time capsule to replace my air port extreme and wonder if the following would be possible:
Set time capsule up as n only using channel 1.
Connected to this via ethernet would be my internet and my iMac and my server/laptop using n
Set airport extreme as b/g compatible using channel 11 so my xbox and wii and connect.
My question, is there some way that the airport can be linked to the time capsule with ethernet to share the internet connection used by the time capsule? Could you connect the internet ethernet port from the airport express to an ethernet port on the time capsule?
Any thoughts, opinion and tips would be welcomed. Basically I thought as I want a time capsule it could be an opportunity to get the most out of the devices.
SteveThis should be possible. The key is to disable DHCP on the Airport Extreme. You could then simply connect a standard Ethernet cable from the TC's LAN port to the Airport Extreme's LAN port (or WAN port if you enable what I believe Apple calls Bridge Mode).
I use a Linksys WRT-54G and an Airport Express. The Airport Express is a second access point and on it I simply disable DHCP and it works flawlessly. Your setup would be similar. And what you're proposing is actually a great way to setup a wireless network. You will need to have two SSIDs so your client devices don't get confused about which to connect to.
