How do I convert cymk artwork to pantone colors?

Is there a quick way to convert all the colors in my artwork from cmyk to pantone process uncoated?
Also, it seems that the indesign colors for the pantone books are incredibly small, and no way to view a full spectrum of colors. For instance, my browns are only about 6 swatches??? How do I access more pantone colors within a color book?
Thanks so much!!!

As yo seem to be working with InDesign, I suggest you to ask this question in the aprropriate forum (that is: InDesign's), where you may get more answers. This is for colour management issues.

  • How Do I Convert at Palette Into a Color Ramp?

    Hello,
Is there a way to convert the 5-color palettes created by Kuler into a continuous color ramp?
    Thanks,

    Hi Douglass,
Currently Kuler supports only upto five colors in a color theme. But you can create as many color themes as you desire and download them to products like Adobe Illustrator where they can be added to one conitnuous color library via the swatches panel and exported. To do that you'll need to add them to swatches via the kuler panel or by downloading and importing .ase files. Then within the swatches panel, you can select and drag colors from multiple groups into a single group and export them via the fly-out menu as a continuous color ramp.

  • How can I convert an image into a color swatch set

I have some experience with Photoshop and some with Elements 11 but I'm still getting used to it. Gimp, which is what I'm used to can do it so I'm sure Element should be able to. I have some really pretty Irises I'd like to onvert to a swatch.

Never mind, I figured it out. And thus goes my first post.

  • How do I convert B&W penciled book drawings to illustrator colored drawings?

I have an opportunity to with an author, but I want to see if I can even deliver first, if I were to take it. The author needs her current black and white drawings to be in color for a book she is putting online. The images for the children's book are scanned jpeg files of actual artwork. Her book art reminds me of stuff from the 80 or 90s - the drawings aren't Blue's Clues type of artwork. She had some already in color and showed me those. The illustrations are also created to looks to be pencil. As you can imagine some black lines are darker than others for example, lots of variety of colors in the form of lines, curves, squiggly lines to add details on the main subject (whether it is hair on a person, plants, clothes, etc).
Imagine the artwork being similar to these:http://staff.bbhcsd.org/kolism/files/2012/07/charlottes-web_1.jpghttp://literacyf1302.blog.ryerson.ca/files/2013/10/sm09.jpg
I have a few of her book illustrations and I am trying to figure it out. I've tried Image Trace (low color) but the lines become fat once you hit expand and you loose the details.
My question: 1. How do I convert this scanned image to an illustrator file with paths/points (like image trace>expand does)? 2. How do I convert black and white to color, as specific as down to the line of the pencil drawn for one detail.

    skoofi,
Have you considered using Photoshop, keeping the resolution adequate for the final size, rescanning if needed?
If you must, the same adequate resolution would also apply to the basis for Image Tracing, and you may try to experiment with the settings.

  • Automatically convert from RGB to CMYK color mode

I have over 900 barcodes provided in EPS format. When I open them in illustrator, they are coming in as an RGB color space file. I need them gray scale solid black in CMYK color mode. I can batch using actions to convert the artwork using "Edit Colors > Convert to Grayscale". However, the document color mode remains RGB. It appears, even after using "Convert to Grayscale", that the RGB color mode goofs up the placed .ai file in InDesign, treating it as RGB and seeing it as a mix of CMYK rather than the 100% black only it needs to be for proper sharp printing.
The actions pallet doesn't record converting the document color mode. Is there a way to automate that file conversion so they are all saved as CMYK rather than RGB, or am I stuck opening each of the 900+ files manually?

While recording the action, from the popup menu in the Actions Panel choose Insert Menu Item, then from the main menu choose File > Document Color Mode > CMYK color.

ya, select all of your artwork, ALL OF YOUR ARTWORK.... the whole thing, all at one time. see all that stuff you drew? select it all. if, after doing this, you do see something that is not selected... select it too!
here's how : cmd+a OR ctrl+a OR select>select all OR push "v" to get your selection tool out then draw a big square around the whole thing.
    still stuck? here's a picture
notice how everything is selected? all the layers, all the shapes, all everything.
now go to recolor artwork and you get this:
unfortunately the file i am working on is all blacks and grays but you get the picture, if i change one of the grays to orange it will look like this:
now all the instances of that gray have turned to orange

  • How do I convert a CYMK logo to spot in Photoshop?

I have a logo for our company that needs to be printed in spot, but it's currently in CMYK. How do I take our logo in photoshop and convert it to a spot color image to use in inDesign?

    Good day!
Depending on the logo this could be a bad idea.
If the logo consists of graphic elements with sharp edges it would be advisable to use vector data.
If using the logo as pixel data is indeed called for one may be able to use the existing channels as the basis for creating Spot Channels (from the Channels Panel’s fly-out menu).
Could you please post the logo (or a lores version thereof) or a screenshot with the Channels Panel visible and a list of the Spot Colors you want to use?
    Regards,

  • Converting CYMK to spot color?

Alright, i just read the 'how to get help quickly', and will attempt to not let my panic show through too much:
I designed graphics to go into my college's literary magazine. I used only two colors: brown and green (8dc63f and 603913). However, last week he informed us (the magazine production people) that RGB wasn't acceptable, since he was going to print in something called 'spot color'. Never heard of it before, but after reasearching, I think I have a vague grasp on it: basically instead of CYMK printing process, he's just going to have two plates, one with each color, and stamp them on the pages (like screen printing). That's fine, but I don't understand how it relates to my files. So we sent the psd files to the printer's "photoshop specialist" and then yesterday I was informed that there was no way to seperate the colors into pantone plates, and that either the book was now going to be blank (thankfully the cover is going to be printed seperately in CYMK so that's fine), or we could use clipart (!!thanks for discrediting a semester of my work), or I could learn to use illustrator and redesign the whole book by monday.
I panic, obviuosly, because after downloading the trial version of illustrator I realized that it's actually nothing like working in photoshop (where's my tablet sensitivity? this is NOTHING like 'illustrating'), and at the end of last night's terror, this is all i could produce:  http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/2993/illustrator.jpg
Now for reference, the image I originally made in photoshop looks like this (when placed on a brown background to simulate paper): http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/7015/photoshopf.jpg
I am very confused, because I don't understand why the printing company can seperate the illustrator file into two color plates, but not the photoshop file. Both use the same colors (Pantone 375 and Pantone 161 C, I've learned). I have no clue how to save ANYTHING in 'spot format', the only difference between photoshop and illustrator is that I can click on the pantone swatch in illustrator.
Obviously I'm ignorant and confused, and I appologise for that, since it only makes this situation worse (who knows if I'm using the right terminology).
    tl;dr:
I have a whole bunch of psd files that need to be converted to something called 'spot color format'
the images are graphics to be placed in an indesign file, not to be printed on their own, so really, they have to be in the spot color format.
Is there any way in reality to maintain the quality of these images and convert them into 'spot color format'?
I'm still trying to understand illustrator (I'm really a painter, not a designer -- wtf is a vector), but would love to convert the psd files I already have into something usable. the printer people didn't know how, I don't know how (or even understand the issue), but maybe you will?

I tried this with the image you posted, so I can describe in detail the steps.
From the image menu choose Duplicate to keep the original for reference.
From the Image menu choose Mode > CMYK Color.
In the Channels palette, delete (by dragging to the trash there) all channels except the Yellow and Black channels.
Double click the icon of the Black channel and in the window that opens click on the color swatch, then in the next window that opens click the Color Libraries button, and when the next window opens type quickly on your keyboard 161, make sure the desired color is picked and press OK on this and previous window to apply.
Repeat the same for the Yellow channel but choose 375.
Select the 161 channel (former Black) and press Ctrl + L to open Levels. Drag the middle arrow of Input Levels referring to the original to get similar darkness (to me around 0.30 looks similar shade). Press OK to apply and close.
Hold Ctrl and click on the icon of the 375 (former Yellow) channel to load its shading as a selection, and press Ctrl + Shift + I to invert the selection.
Make sure the 161 (former Black) channel is selected and press Ctrl + L to open Levels again. Move the right (white) arrow of the Output Levels (at the bottom) until the background matches in brightness the background of the original (to me 150 looks similar).
That's basically it based on my quick try with your image. This example should help you understand the basic idea and from there if you like, you can further play with the image if you feel you can make it any better with these two colors.
Regarding Spot colors, the idea is that a printing press uses 4 color plates (in Photoshop represented as the four CMYK channels when the image is in CMYK color mode) to print all possible process colors by mixing these four colors (inks). Spot colors are pure inks in cans and each spot color (ink) requires its own plate. Sometimes people print 4 process color plus an additional spot color for achieving a special effect like gold ink or pure corporate color to ensure color consistency which may not be as good when using the four colors mix. But very often, spot colors are used for printing with less than 4 plates to save money and sometimes for artistic effect with special inks.
Following the above example converts the CMYK document to Multichannel Color mode and you have only a few file formats available for saving in the Save As options. From these, practical ones are DCS and PSD files. Both are OK for printing but you may want to confirm with your printer. However if you want to place Multichannel image in programs like Illustrator or inDesign you have to use DCS.

  • Converting CYMK document to PATONE

My client has come back to me and said that some PDF's I sent him (over 40 individual) were CYMK and some were pantone. He needs them all in Pantone, how do I convert the CYMK files in InDesign cs6?
Also, why would my indesign use different colour settings when I have nerve changed the settings?
Any help asap would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

He needs them all in Pantone, how do I convert the CYMK files in InDesign cs6?
Some of the Pantone libraries have process CMYK definitions (Pantone+ Color Bridge and Pantone+ CMYK) and some have spot Lab definitions (i.e., Pantone+ Solid, Pantone+ Pastels and Neons). Assuming your client knows the difference between a spot and process color, he is requesting that you provide PDFs with spot colors. Before you export make sure the colors are set as spot. Here my swatches panel is showing 4 Pantone colors 2 are spots and 2 are process CMYK. The process Pantone colors would export as CMYK and would not show as separation plate colors in the PDF:
Also, make sure All Spots to Process is unchecked in your Ink Manager setting

Look forward to hearing from you

"How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album as some of the songs do not have the artwork, as with the previous version of itunes you had to load artwork individually."
That suggests some underlying issue, as iTunes has always (AFAIR) allowed artwork to be assigned with multiple tracks in a single action.  For an album, right-click on the album, select Get Info, select the Artwork tab.  You then have three options:
If the artwork image exists as a file, click the Get Artwork button, browse to and select the file, then click Open.
Drag and drop the image file from Windows Explorer to the Artwork tab (previous releases also allowed drag and drop from a web browser, this functionality is missing - either by design or as the result of a bug - in iTunes 12).
If you've copied the artwork image to the clipboard, press Ctrl-V on the keyboard to paste in the image (prior to the 1st release of iTunes 12 this could also be done using right-click > Paste - hopefully this will be restored as a bug-fix in the next update)
"I have tried the copy and paste option and that does not work."
There are three possible causes for this:
The format of your media files doesn't support embedded artwork - specifically, uncompressed audio in WAV format.  You'll need to convert to Apple Lossless (without loss of quality) or either MP3 or AAC (if you're OK with lossy media) before artwork images can be associated with your media.
Windows' permissions are preventing your media files from being updated when iTunes attempts to embed the images (in a perfect world iTunes should report this as an error, but it actually does nothing).  To check this, find the folder that contains media of interest in Windows Explorer (by default this will be C:\Users\user_name\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_name), right-click and select Properties, Security tab - check that your Windows user account has full control over the folder.
The media files that you're trying to add artwork to may be set to read-only in Windows. Select the folder as before in Windows Explorer, right-click > Properties and make sure that the Read-only flag is cleared.

  • How can I convert page points into document points??

    Hello,
How can I convert page points into document points? any API?
    I have found 2 APIs
    AIDocumentViewSuite::ArtworkPointToViewPoint( ) and
    AIDocumentViewSuite::ViewPointToArtworkPoint( )
but I dont know what is view point and art work point.
I think artwork point = page points and view points = document points. am I correct ???

What do you mean by 'document points'? Do you mean document units? Like centimeters or inches? If that, there's no API to do (well, kind of in AIUser.h, but that gives you back a string with a unit suffix). Frankly, its pretty easy to just figure out the conversion values for each type of ruler unit -- there are only five or so you need -- and then write a dinky function that takes a value in one or the other, looks up the current document unit and uses that to convert the value (one function for each way). You just need to figure out everything in terms of points (since pixels == points) -- in that regard, it probably helps to know that 72 pt == 1 inch. From that you can figure out pointer-per-inch|centimeter|millimeter|pica.

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.
