How do I convert mp3 to AIFF?

The mp3 files plays poorly in FCE 4.
I'm in iLife '09. On earlier versions of Garage Band and/or itunes, converting an mp3 to AIFF was pretty simple.
Can anybody tell me what I need to do?
Thanks,
Terry D

Yes.

There is nothing in here about burning a CD, only about converting audio, whether from a CD or from other sources.

  • Convert mp3 to aiff

i imported songs into itunes as mp3.how can i convert them to aiff and i done tried setting preferances, hit convert to aiff and its not working.at least if it did the show info still says mp3.if i burn the mp3 through itunes set on audio does that convert it to aiff and burn it as such?

A data disk will not not play on your CD player like an audio CD. It's only useful for backing up in case you need to restore your library.
The convert feature should work. Don't know why it's not. What view do you have your library set on? You might tell iTunes to show duplicates and make sure the converted file isn't hiding somewhere. (You say you set the Preferences....that would be iTunes prefs, Advanced, Import (IF you want to convert the file) and set to AIFF.
If you're burning the file after that, setting Burning to Audio CD.
    +*That's how it should work.*+
P.S. Are you sure the files are MP3s? If they were downloaded from iTunes, they are protected AAC and you won't be able to convert them to AIFF. (Have to burn, then re-rip to convert those.)

  • Converting mp3 to aiff

How do I convert mp3 files to AIFF? My mp3 audio files in Final Cut Pro have these nasty drop-out/pops. I heard from another forum that the ticket is to convert my mp3s to AIFF - so, once again - How?
    thanks in advance.

"Best" depends totally on your usage, so without knowing what you need these files for and what your criteria will be, it's difficult to offer any useful advice.
"CAF" is probably "Core Audio Format". See this developer article for information.

  • How can I convert MP3 to AWB or AMR format

How can I convert MP3 to AWB, AMR format?

Because I faced the same issue today and although the Nokia Multimedia Converter was last updated in the year 2003, it did the trick for me. Instead of giving the setup.exe your Nokia Account, go back one step, and use this to ‘register’ that product.
In that converter, as audio, select AMR Wideband (WB AMR) which creates .awb files. Those have a sampling rate of 16 000 Hz which is great for HD-Voice like audio books. Actually for voice-only media, I went for a bit-rate of just 12.2 kbps, still great as explained by Wikipedia. With that bit-rate only go for standard AMR if your phone does not support the wideband variant, because there is not difference in size.

  • How can I convert MP3 file to AIFF to use in FCP?

    Hi guys,
How can I convert an MP3 file to AIFF file to use it in Final Cut Pro?
    Anyone please,
    Thanks in advance,
    Zia

#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • I would like to convert MP3 to AIFF is this possible?

I have just purchased an older car and it does not play MP3 files in it's stereo.  I have extensive MP3 files and would like to know if I can convert these files to AIFF which I believe can be played in this stereo.  Is this [possible?

iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 - including information about different formats and discussion about compression.
Frankly though I think if it can't play mp3 then it cannot play AIFF.  Do not confuse a file in AIFF format with the format that is used on an audio format CD which all players can play.  I suspect that what you really need to do is burn audio format CDs.  You can do this using your mp3 files.

  • How to convert mp3 software instrument samples to format garageband can use

    Hi and thanks in advance.
I'm using GB '08 on OSX 10.4.11 w/ a G4 MDD. ( Sorry folks,  This is the setup that I have and cannot buy a new computer or software at this time)
I'm pretty new too DAW and all of this but want to compose music with traditional orchestra sounds as well as what GB offers.
I have found Muse Score and I can get some pretty good results for writing but I want to expand the software instrument voices that GB has.
    I found  http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/thesoundexchange/make_music/samples/library/
and they have some pretty good sounding software instruments for free, except that they are in mp3 format.
I did some reading and see that GB understands a different format for this. I put some of the sounds into the correct GB folder as a test and result is of course no go. I see that GB uses exs and cst files in addition to wav and aff files.
How do I convert mp3 software instrument samples to the formats garageband can use? Is there a way? What would I need to do this?
    Thanks again..

The first step would probably be to convert the samples into AIFF files, that's what GB's sample files are in.
But so far that's only a collection of samples - what you need is a sampler file that tells the software which sample to trigger with which key (the .exs files in GB's instrument library).
Since your software is old, t works pretty well with soundfonts (the latest versions have problems), so you might try this software to create them:

P.S.: The softare costs $60, but you can create 10 instruments for free.

  • Can you use iTunes match and not get duplicates if you maintain mp3s and aiffs files of the same song in either the same or separate libraries?

I maintain a collection of aiff files and mp3 files of the same music.
Aiff for home listening and Mp3 for my devices.
I can arrange these in the same or seperate libraires.
Will "itunes match" duplicate the songs in the cloud if they in the same or seperate libraies on the same mac?
If not, is anyone aware of how to manage seperate Mp3 and Aiff libraries so as not to get duplicates in itune match?
    All assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello mracole,
I checked my "purchases" and the 7/19/13 purchases don't show up.  However, the earlier versions from usually several years back...the ones that are Matched...often do show up in my Purchases.  I suspect that somehow those REALLY purchased several year old versions were deleted and redownloaded by me so I could change them to the 256 kbps versions under iTunes Match.  They were probably 128 kbps versions originally when purchased.
Why the earlier versions that were really purchased are now identified as Matched is puzzling.
Why I now have Purchased versions from 7/19/13 is puzzling too...especially since these versions do NOT show up in my purchases.
Calling Apple Support if a good idea unless someone can explain this mystery.  I might even take one of my laptops to the Apple store and show a Genius.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, Mr. Luigi

  • Audio problem-- converting song to AIFF doesn't stop pops and cracks!!

i've converted mp3s to AIFF both thru itunes and quicktime. when i import them to my FCP HD timeline, they still sound distorted-- with the same cracks and slowness as it does when i try to play an mp3 without converting the song format.
i have made settings 48/16bit to match my footage.
why isn't this working? any tips?

    hi david,
thanks for trying to help. i'm still having the audio problem-- the aiffs sound clean in both quicktime and itunes, crackly and distorted in fcphd.
my fcp sequence setting is for 1080i/60 HDV 29.97fps with audio set to 48khz/16bit stereo.
    any ideas would be appreciated!

  • How do I convert an mp3 or WMA file to a m4a file?

I read on another forum that iTunes can convert mp3 and wma files to m4a format.
    How do I do this?

    That is correct.
By default if you load a .wma file into iTunes, it will AUTOMATICALLY convert it to another format first, since it needs to in order to play it. However, you can also convert any other file format that iTunes supports, assuming it can get loaded into iTunes.
To set what format you want to convert to, go EDIT->PREFERENCES. Click the IMPORT SETTINGS button and select which encoder you want (AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV are supported) and then select the bit rate if you are choosing a lossy format (AAC/MP3).
From there, any .wma files you load into iTunes (you can do this by going into iTunes and selecting FILE-> ADD FILE TO LIBRARY, or simply right clicking a .wma file and OPEN WITH iTunes) will convert to that format. ALSO, if you have any other files already in iTunes you wish to convert, select the file(s), and go to ADVANCED -> CREATE ___ VERSION (the blank being whatever you selected before) and it will convert for you.
Remember, converting a lower quality song to a higher quality format/bit rate won't "up-covert" any quality, the lowest quality you start with is the highest you can possibly get, but if you still prefer to have a certain file format or bit rate to compress to, this is the feature you'd use!
Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • HT3847 How is the best way to separate copied MP3 from AIFF files in my library?

How is the best way to separate duplicate MP3 from AIFF files in my library?

    Zice wrote:
I want higher resolution then afforded in the original download.
Then why are you converting iTunes purchases?
You cannot get higher resolution by converting  the original. This goes for converting anything, not just iTunes purchases.
Creating an AIFF will simply make the file 10 time as large with zero increase in quality.
Don't really want to debate value of creating the new version.
    Agreed.
You are simply wasting time and drive space converting iTunes purchases to AIFF.
